From my own experience, my unmatched IB3600 6-cell packs consistently give me about 1 extra minute of runtime compared to my unmatched GP3300 6-cell packs. The IB3600 packs are also cooler after the run, so there's less of a wait to recharge. This should mean that you'll get plenty of runtime from the IB3800 cells since they are numerically superior in every area that counts.

Also, someone earlier had asked about the IB3800 in the SPTs; I have the IB3600, which have the same physical dimensions. The only thing you may have to do on some cells is shave some shrink from the end of the cell so that the cell ends touch evenly and completely. Out of the 28 cells I put in my SPTs, I had to do this for about 20. There are instructions with the SPTs.

Starscream - you mentioned that you know Pete personally. Do you talk to him much? If so, he may have mentioned that someone actually broke an SPT recently; that was me :)
The 8-cell SPT I was using on my MGT at the track for practice broke an end cap. Pete sent me a replacement at no charge. He mentioned that noone had broken one before, so I felt proud to be the first :)

Serum, I spoke to a FMA sales person and they told me they are planning to release a 6s Kokam balanced pack and charger in late Aug (subject to change of course) and a 4s balanced pack a month or two after that. Its kind of a toss up for me, right now, between the Kokam's and the Polyquest but the Kokam 6s sounds great. I'm still waiting to hear on prices.

Batfish, I haven't sen Pete for a few months. Last time I was over there, he gave me a spt he designed for the gp1100's. I used this in my rc18t with a mamba 8000. That setup was insanily too fast, even with only 6 cells.
What vehicle did you break the spt in?
The batt tubes are made of plastic so they are not industructible but very durable. I have had a front end cap split on me before. So now, I use a small piece of foam, placed in front of the front end cap, to protect the spt from front end collisions. Associated makes foam battery spacers that work well for this. You could always use foam on the rear as well, if you need to protect against getting rear ended :W: . But As long as the spt is secured tight on the truck and doesn't have room to move, you should be fine.

I haven't used the tubes, but have heard some good things about them. I am a weight freak, so anything that adds weight has a tough time making the list of what I use on my trucks. :) I mostly run Lipos now, with an occasional nimh run.

I broke it in my brushless MGT.

Yeah, lets see some pics of that bad boy :D

Batfish 07.14.2005 09:28 PM

There's actually a thread on it. I just haven't had much time to work on it in the last few weeks...not to mention my unfortunate troubles with lipo. :W:

Here's the thread:

Next steps are the forward only conversion kit (I think Mike's getting this for me) and using 3s2p 6400 Kokam.
