Sounds like a good setup to me, give it a try and let us know. Metalman has used that esc, as have others on here. I think akqut has too.
|
only thing i am worried about would be weight distribution. the apogee limn 3800 6s weighs in at 678g or 1lb 7.9oz. it seems like you would need stiffer springs on the right side, because thats where the battery would go.

arg, I was eyeing that revo on ebay also. Oh well, have fun with it, I will keep looking.

Oh, you little swine you. I think its safe to say your photoshop skills are fine....

Got a new E-maxx transmission from tower for only $48 without motor plate or spur gear, but eBay has this exact thing going for at least $70. So finally got the transmission in and a servo and such.
Threw in the old Velineon on 3s and geared it 19/68. Seems to have more power than I remember, could pull 10 mph rolling wheelies and flip it onto it's lid in the blink of an eye. Will make some for an amusing video when I get some decent clips together. Jumping will also be done, jumping is good. :intello: |
any updates on this project ...i'm building a v-twin revo
|
I got a new video of the Revos doing a couple jumps and the single Velineon Revo was able to pull off some outrageous wheelies. Single Velineon has some mean power, won't be upgrading to dual any time soon. Also got a Rustler video finished up too.
Here's pics of the Transmission install and build-up of the 2.5: http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...y/DSC06022.jpg parts http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...y/DSC06029.jpg gears installed http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...y/DSC06032.jpg transmission finished http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...y/DSC06038.jpg cut off the engine mount and some minor chassis shaving with the dremel http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...y/DSC06046.jpg oooh sparks :oh: http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...y/DSC06048.jpg servo installed http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...y/DSC06055.jpg complete transmission mounted to chassis http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...y/DSC06057.jpg Velineon, tires and wheels http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...y/DSC06121.jpg with body Here's the Dual revo bash vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fI-7R8QyeLY The Rustler bash: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1gosgW9FMR8 |
Nice job and very impressive..what gearing are you using for the velineon?
also check out my v-twin project......here are pics with titan moc up to get the chassis tuned in with the suspension.....its a 3.3 chassis I will be running two maxamps 3s 8000mah lipos...hoping to hit 50-60 mph http://s265.photobucket.com/albums/ii215/nickwild2007/ |
It was geared 17/68 for the speed runs and still delivered such a plentiful top-end there didn't seem to be a need for higher gearing (plus we didn't want to tax the batteries too much). Given the immense torque and speed of the single Velineon, I'm not even jealous of a Neu setup, as it able to cruise over any terrain I threw at it and it gets out of control if you get too gutsy on the throttle.
|
Update: the single Velineon runs a little too hot with 35mph gearing and any less speed would be a bit slow:no:. Plans are to convert 2.5r Revo to dual Velineon with moderate gearing for low 40s:surprised:. Also converting the 2.5 to extended e-revo chassis, so it will basically be an e-revo. The Mamba Max died while running in the Rustler:grrrrrr:, sent it in to Castle 6/5/08. Ordered a TrueRC 4s2p 8k to run with the 9XL in the Revo 3.3, will relocate battery tray for less weight in back. Probably going to gear it 17/36 for moderate 39mph top speed (2nd gear wide ratio). The Super brain 977 pro is crap , sent that in to be checked out by MRC:whip:, doubt they will do anything; going to order a Duracraps ICE charger for handling the lipo charging responsibility. Looks like flightpower lite batts are the cheapest route for the dual velineon. Pics Later, vehicles should finally be running in a month:oh:, after some serious work...literaly

Pics of Revo 3.3 with the weight further forward, I had to bend the servo mount down to keep the battery low.

Got another Velineon motor and another combo so the motors are both new, just one old ESC, checked both ESCs and they are the same version. Soldered an H connector out of Deans to connect 2 batteries and 2 ESCs.
Also put on RPM tru-track. When I disconnected the motor wire on my old ESC the bullet pulled out of the case :oh::no: tried soldering it back on. Got a short 10 min. run and things heated up a lot. synced the motors and it ran much smoother and cooler for another 20 minutes. The run ended when I was cruising up a grass hill punched the throttle to 2/3 and it rotated backwards onto a driveway and skidded on the deans plugs and grinded the motor mount. The bullet came out again, don't know what to do. |
If you send the esc back to traxxas they will repair the bullet for you, or you could open the case up to make fixing it easier yourself. Its a common problem though, must have rookies doing the QC at traxxas...

I opened the case when my bullet came out and could not get to the area that needed to be soldered without busting open the bottom of the case that seemed to have no way to enter the lower area...do you know of anyone repairing these bullets themselves? traxxas sent me a new one |
I emailed Traxxas with my predicament and they want me to send $45 along with the ESC and motor. I said, "no way, Jose", then I popped open the case and soldered it back on. Make sure you take out the rubber water seal around the plugs and the fet board should unplug from the brains. It seems to be solid. The dual Velineon runs kinda hot geared only 19/68 in 90 degree weather, it was about 170 for the motors and 160 for the escs after 15 minutes of running and taking some video.

I am running two FP 3s 4270 in parallel to both ESCS. Geared 19/68. Motors are synced. More pics and a video.
Anyone have any ideas on how to get this mess to run cooler? It's already geared as low as I can take at 19/68 for about 180f on the motors and it was only getting 180f at 12/68 with single velineon. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oAACmDRYtI0 |

Sell those 2 velinon setups and invest it toward a 1515/2.5D and a MMM. and run those batteries in series for 6s. Or the MMM Esc/Motor combo when it comes out in hopefully not to long. |
I would be inclined to say that V-twin setup is undergeared, hence the hot motors. The fact the escs get hot too just makes me think they arent as great as traxxas makes out- borrowed their spec system from novak...

Gearing up to 19/62 helped quite a bit. Today I ran for 30 minutes with it being 95f outside.
Motor 1: 190 Motor 2: 180 ESC 1: 160 ESC 2(BEC circuit): 175 The two runs added together I get about 45 minutes runtime with the FP 4270 3s. I'll consider those acceptable temps especially with how hot it was. Will be getting a back-ordered E-revo chassis in the mail tomorrow and installing it. Should help tone down the wheelies a little. Taking more clips to put together a better video. It will most likely have the 9xl 3.3 Revo if that is running before filiming is complete. Gonna put some good editing into it, and most likely stick the curved ramp in the middle of a field for some jumps. Also: With dual V, I opted to stiffen the springs to Silver in rear, Tan in front. Have the P1 rockers still on for the 2.5 Revo. Works really well except it tends to be a little bouncy, I'm planning to upgrade to 45 wt. shock oil to help keep it planted; I'm hoping this will allow me to get some air time in and still be able to absorb the landings. Some stills from the footage I took for the run: |
I just got a brand new Mamba Max ESC from Castle to replace the broken one. On the return slip it said the cause of failure was a bad battery connection because the "deans was held on with tape". I will say that it was definitely not held on with tape, but I did use duct tape instead of heat shrink for insulating the wire. I can't imagine how a bad battery connection could've caused to to stop working completely , or why would they would trash it just because the deans wasn't held on very good. My soldering skills are much better now, so this one should work good.
Then I popped the CMS-4600 48mm 7.8oz motor in the revo and let 'er rip. First I was using Response tires but I was afraid of destroying them, so I bolted on some Talonz. They were ballooning like crazy and it was pulling out of control wheelies even on the 3.3 chassis, and it could pull 40mph easy with the 12/54 gearing. After 6-8 minutes of face-melting power, I checked the temps and the motor was 205˚F and the ESC was 210˚F. The motor can evaporated a drop of water I put on it, but still not as hot as my Traxxas Blast boat with a stinger after 15 minutes of driving. I pulled out the over-revved 68k rpm motor and popped in the 28k rpm 14oz 9XL with obviously a higher 17/38 gearing. The performance was completely what I've been expecting for these 6 months that I haven't driven the Revo. It had plenty of bottom end torque (almost close to dual velineon) and the top speed was as fast as any monster truck should go. After 10 minutes, the ESC was 160˚ and the motor 165˚. |

The E-Revo chassis is installed and I still have the E-maxx motor plate on the tranny so the motors are mounted pretty far forward. I tried to counteract that a little by sliding the batteries all the way back in the boxes, still a little front heavy, but turns great. Wheelies are definitely less abundant with the low CG batteries and extra wheelbase. It just spins the tires on the street. Looks awkward with the old 2.5 body on there :oh::tongue:

I sent you a PM... Did you get it?
|
Update: The revos were cool while they lasted. Got them to the track and that was kinda fun. But now that school has started there won't be much time for those. Plus the Bandit that we tried to sell got lost and the mail 6 weeks ago won't be coming back (next time you see a USPS mail truck get a baseball bat and start beating out the windows). So that put a huge dent in RC budget which will have to be cut. Too much money. Not enough fun. I wasted too many hours reading posts from witless barely communicable individuals who don't even know their own address. I can imagine a thread right now, "How muney brushles motars do i put on my revo and wut flaver????" If you'll excuse me, I need start learning more about good grammar and other valuable knowledge rather than what I need to buy for my truck and what do I need to upgrade and what do I need to adjust. What an expensive distraction.

Cant you put a claim in for the lost items? I dont know how usps works, but even with uninsured items sent via royalmail you are entitled to a small amount of compo (takes 6 weeks or more, and means filling out forms etc).
|
I tried everything possible. Called them, went to the main post office, gave them a description of the item, they called the all the other post offices, they said it would get shipped back if no one picked it up. It turned out that the shipping address that I got was not specific, but the least USPS could have done was ship it back, then I would have only lost paypal, ebay, and shipping fees and not the entire car with it.

but he payed with paypal so you loose anyway did you send it with tracking |
