Does the sidewinder have a usb port like the mamba max?

Serum 01.22.2008 02:52 AM

yeah, through the castle link you can upgrade it.

You can if you have the Castle link. If you buy if from a vendor who will program if for you, you don't have any worries.

Serum 01.22.2008 03:00 AM

Someone like Mike, the owner of RC-monster you mean?

by "the Castle Link" I assume you're referring to the mini-usb cord and software? Though I thought I just read it doesn't have the usb port? Hm.. I'm not clear on this.

Yeah, he would do that for his customers.

Yes, the Castle link is the programming software and the adapter needed for programming the Sidewinder. Since the Sidewinder has no usb port the Castle link adapter is used on the RX plug.

Ohh okay this makes 100% sense now. The CCBEC is the same way I suppose? I just ordered one and didn't realize that! Now I gotta get an adapter..

Thanks :D

hobbimaster 01.22.2008 08:42 AM

Yes, it is programmable through the PC: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXGVR8&P=ML. This is the castle link used on almost all castle's products, except Mamba max (USB)
From my understanding reading a few reviews and PPl's trials this ESC does have the newer firmware, or better than the MM for running other Mfg's motors such as Novak (sensored mainly) which the Mamba max was horrible at. But, it doesnt run brushed motors right now until a firmware patch is realeased. Personally, mine will never see a brushed motor so updating right away isnt totally necessary.

83gt 01.22.2008 09:25 AM

Wow, I'm so tempted. This would be perfect in my DF03.

Who's gonna be the first to try it on 4s ? lol.

Firmware is already released

J.

I have already tried, it works.

DrKnow65 01.22.2008 11:16 AM

Just updated my MM, loving the "dead band" adjustment. It's been the only thing I wish I'd have had before now. Mabey torque and RPM limiting software, so I could throw the extra MM and 5700kv I've got into sons XXXT without buying tons of replacement parts for every time he crashes at those speeds :) I have learned to use smaller KV motors with good results on small tracks.

Reverse rolling to forward power is better too. It never cogged on my setup but you could hear just a little chatter from the slop in the drivetrain which is gone now, just at startup.

I have tried it and didn't see any changes. What are your settings?

J.

I will try mine with a neu 1527 and 4s lipo.

Just kidding!

I am looking for a decent motor around 2500kv to use 4s with this esc in a crt.5 or LS10. I have a lehner basic xl 2400, but maybe that motor will be too much?

83gt 01.22.2008 12:00 PM

someone try this with an outrunner!! I need to know how it works, if the update helps. This update is the same for the sidewinder and the MM ?

J.

lutach 01.22.2008 12:04 PM

I'm going to try it with my truck. It has a Neu 1521/1Y and I'm going to use 4S with it.

lutach 01.22.2008 02:07 PM

I did try it in my MBX5T with a Mega ACn22/30/2 and it was much smoother before this update, but for some reason it is not smooth at all in my TC3 with the Trinity N80.

hobbimaster 01.22.2008 02:11 PM

Go under "downloads" and then Mamba max history: www.castlecreations.com
It helps to open the castle program first, well atleast with Vista it detects an update. Something new to tinker with.

Arct1k 01.22.2008 02:21 PM

Anyone got it working with Vista x64 ?

I guess I'll try tonight....

How high is your rollout ratio? How many cells?

Serum 01.22.2008 02:37 PM

:intello: Who needs 64 bits anyway.. 16gb of internal memory?

So, is that Gbits or Gbytes?

The TC3 has a 69T spur now and 30T pinion and 2S lipos. Final gear ratio is 5.75 rollout around 35mm. This set up is working nice with my other controller. The MM did work with the Mega ACn22/30/2 though. Before the update I tried it in my MBX5T and it was cogging, but now it's much better.

Arct1k 01.22.2008 03:32 PM

No only 4GB... :)

Mild gaming rig... 3.2Ghz Core 2, 8800gtx, 4gb...

It is cheap now so why not... only think that doesn't work now is the CC software :(

That would actually be a nice set up for gaming on a laptop. I would hope your laptop has a cooling pad.

Arct1k 01.22.2008 03:50 PM

No thats a desktop with large widescreen monitor - laptop is for work so as small and as light as possible... Odd though that the CC wouldn't work on the laptop either - need to try a clean install again for track side changes...

I dual boot the desktop to XP at the moment - Wifes going to be please about 5 cars coming upstairs tonight for software updates! LOL!

Into the old computer thing so LMK if anyone needs upgrade or build help. Rgds

Check this out:

Differential Ratio: 1
Transmission Ratio: 2.727272727272727
Spur Tooth Count: 54
Pinion Tooth Count: 18
Total Voltage: 14.8
Motor KV: 2958
Tire Diameter (inches): 3.8
Spur/Pinion Ratio: 3 : 1
Total Ratio: 8.18182 : 1
Tire Circumference (inches): 11.94 inches (303.23mm)
Total Motor Speed: 43778.4 RPM
Vehicle Speed: 60.49 MPH

It would be nice to find a 2500 kv motor, in a s can, maybe a lehner basic 2400?

What Feigao motor would you use with the Sidewinder in a Rusty on 2 cell Lipo or 8 cell NIMH?

Most likely a 7s, but this motor can draw some serious juice, so I would suggest it for lipo only (5000mah or higher). If you are stuck with nimh go with the 5700 mamba motor.

Team X 01.23.2008 01:02 AM

ok, thanks for the advice

JeffEmbracedDC 01.23.2008 05:11 AM

So.. I found an RC10T in my garage.. and decided that was good enough reason to buy a sidewinder :) Got it on the way Priority along with a few 10T parts. Yipee! Also ordered some stuff from Mike for my 8ight :) should post some photos in a week or two!

Just talked to Joe for a bit about it, and he said to try and gear up a touch. The rollout you have is very tall.

The ESC that I have in the TC3 is working really well with the 69T spur and 30T pinion combo. I'll use that one for now. I have to get some time to get out and mail the controller to Castle. I also didn't mail my HV110 and will see if they can get that one fixed as well.

FG101C 02.23.2008 01:26 AM

Which motor would be the better choice for a Sidewinder in a CRT.5 the 4600 or 5700. I just want to buy the combo for playing around in the street and at the park, just not sure which motor. Pinion gear too, not sure on that, just looking for some speed and to be able to bash around on a desert like terrain.

Thanks.

cart213 02.23.2008 01:42 AM

What battery will you be using? The 4600 should be ok with 3s lipos, but the 5700 would be better for 2s lipos.

FG101C 02.23.2008 01:44 AM

Yeah I forgot to mention I will most likely use the MaxAmps 2s 5000mah.

neweuser 02.25.2008 10:13 AM

You could go with the 5700, but if you ever want to go 3s, I would get the 4600. 4600 is more efficient. You could gear the 4600 up a bit too.

FG101C 02.27.2008 09:10 PM

Just got my Sidewinder 5700 combo. In Castle's manual and on the sticker on the motor it says 3S Lipo max. Guess it can handle 3S LiPo's.?
