That motor mount clone idea is great Neil, maybe you could also make one out of 3mm thick carbon fibre, that would be awesome. Only thing that would worry me would be the flex i guess...
I can definately get rid of the time/date if you want. I'll take some pics tonight without the time/date and post em up. Probably won't be able to redo all of them, maybe just the side views and birds eye shots Quote:
thanks alot jordan |

You should race it , I know a track that races electric MT  West Coast Model Rally Club
That would've fit in pretty well at our track up until about 4 months ago, but now we've mostly gone to truggys. The Gorillamaxx is still good though. Even if you don't intend to race it, because of what it is (you might cry if you saw how some of the others got treated), you should still go to watch one night. MT's usually only race every 2nd week, which is this Friday night. Numbers aren't always that consistent. 5 is normal, but we had 8 a couple of meets ago, and 2 of us showed a couple of weeks after that (need 4 to have a class.) |
I've never really been into rc racing to be perfectly honest. I've raced go-karts for around 6 years and now I am moving into cars, so thats where I get my competitive race fix from
RC has pretty much been something that I can build, and see coming together before my eyes. Its alot cheaper than buying a 1:1 car and tuning that up (and probably provides better resale value), but still provides a pretty good engineering side to things. For example, the Revo suspension setup is nearly identical to that on an open wheel race car, pretty cool if you ask me... Hopefully in the next few weeks I can get the wheels and tyres, steering servo, wing, and body to get this thing into a full blown roller!! |
wow that thing looks really nice. good job on the build.
also what kinda spur is that? |
Thats a Stobe slipper and sprong, uncertain about the actual spur though (anything similar looking can be made to fit I believe though).
Cheers so much for those Jordan, that truck really is a thing of beauty. funny thing though, I know a few years back someone was selling Carbonfibre motor mounts for the stock emaxx; if they are made from the 'good' CF and not cheap ebay stuff, they dont flex and are much lighter than stock items. An interesting idea to make one, especially if I can find a suitable scrap/offcut of CF on ebay... |
I think thats an Ofna 51t spur if I'm not mistaken.
|
Nice looking rig...
Man I wish UE would start selling those 6mm CVDs again. Any word if there are plans to do so? |

Susideneil: I know Fullforce rc sells 3mm carbon fibre sheets... http://www.fullforcerc.com/Carbon.htm Quote:
I'm not too sure if i should get the RCM slipperential when it comes out. It will obviously boost performance, but it'd break my heart to see the tranny and slipper setup I have go. Especially the strobe/sprong as they're fairly rare items now... thanks for all the comments, i really appreciate it, i'll definately keep you guys updated as the build rolls on  jordan |
hmm... i'm not too sure what tyres to get. At the moment it is between the Bow-ties or the Mulchers, both 40 series.
Just to paint a picture, I'm going with 40 series wabash wheels dyed black, a gunmetal grey JConcepts Tango body and a black ofna hi-force wing. Which tyres do you think will match this truck the best?? Please feel free to leave your opinion (as i'm incredibly confused!!) jordan |
Quote:
No...I meant 6mm shafts...that's what I use in two of my trucks. But okay. 8mm UE shafts would be nice too! |
I definately agree, no matter what axle is on the shaft, the UE cvd's are one of, if not the strongest cvd's around for the maxx
any comments on the great tyre dilemma?? |
Quote:
Well...I do not race. I am really in this hobby because I love building these trucks. Having said that, I like to run beadlock wheels with some good all terrain tyres. I really like the Axial Oversize beadlock wheels but I am not crazy about the tyre selection (they take Proline 40 series or Losi 420 Series). As for tyres that I REALLY like...Proline Badland tyres are cool. Problem with them is that if you wanted to run beadlock wheels, you'd have to go with Maximizer wheels. Unfortunately, I do not like Maximizer's wheels...I have one set and I just don't like the way the tyres sit on the wheel and the darn hex hubs just don't mount up inside the wheel securely like other wheels. Its really a matter of preference...there are more tyre choices in the Monster Truck Series...just the beadlock wheels for that application are not the greatest...IMO |
badlands, tho being great tires, would look strange on the truck
as the truck has a wing and will have a racing body I would go for racing tires. I would go for axial terrarizers for series 40 wheels. |

Updates Updates Updates!!!
well, its been a while, but i just got my order from impakt yesterday consisting of:
Hitec 5955-tg steering servo Dynamite Alum servo arm Proline 40 series Wabash rims Proline 40 series Bow ties OFNA 1/8 hi force spoiler Jconcepts illuzions tango body for Revo 3.3 RCM mod1 pinions (18 and 19t) So far i've mounted the steering servo, manged to bur the screw holding the servo arm on, not happy... Trimmed the body and put the first coat of paint on, even though the body looks awesome, i would think twice about getting one again as mounting it was an absolute nightmare. The rear body posts come up through the corner of the rollbar sections, not on the tray, so its a little tricky to get it right. Probably has something to do with it being for a Revo. And I mounted the spoiler. I had an issue with the rims, where on the inner rim of one of them there seems to be a moulding defect, which weakens the rim as it can buckle really easily. I've contacted proline on it, and hopefully it won't hold up my build too much... Anyway, here are some pics Package arrived!! http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...x/DSC00960.jpg Servo/Alum servo arm http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...x/DSC00967.jpg Body shell: http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...x/DSC00977.jpg Truck with the spolier mounted: http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...x/DSC00982.jpg Damaged rim: http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...x/DSC00972.jpg http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...x/DSC00973.jpg Thanks for looking, i'll kepp you guys posted as the body is finished and the rim issue is sorted out!! jordan |
Oh yes, the Revos' body posts are a touch closer together front and rear, so I can see why that would be a pain. If you hadnt already made the holes, I might have suggested something like a cross-bar between the rear posts, then mount some stubby body posts onto it (screwed on from underneath maybe, or some velcro even, much like the crawler guys do sometimes....
That wing looks seriously nice on the truck. |
same problem with my tango :), so I just use single rear mount secured by tie wraps. works well
http://www.radeks.net/wp-content/plu...xx2008/tt1.jpg |
Thats something like what I had in mind.
|
it wasn't so much that i had already drilled the body, but i had already cut down the body posts, and to get them off i had to take the shocks off. Also because they were rear posts, there were no holes for the cross bar. Just a bit of a hassle. It fits ok now, i'll definately post some pics when its mounted.
wallot, thats a great idea mounting the single post in the middle of the DUH tower! |
so i don't think i'm going to hear anything back from proline
I'm going to try and use some silicone based filler and patch up the hole. Hopefully it should hold. Do you guys think this will work? Have any other ideas on how to patch up a rim? thanks jordan |
well i heard from proline, and they said they would ship me out a new rim for free!! now hopefully i can get them to ship a bow-tie with it as well...
I got the rims dyed yesterday, left them in for 40 mins a piece. I managed to find a pot so i could fit in two at a time. Here's some pics: http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...x/DSC00985.jpg http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...x/DSC00987.jpg http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...x/DSC00989.jpg I also took my standard length maxx body and hacked it up to fit the wingmount and the extended chassis. I figured the paintjob still looked pretty awesome, so why let a good body go to waste  http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...x/DSC00992.jpg http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...x/DSC00990.jpg http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...x/DSC00993.jpg I'll get pics of the Tango when i've stickered it up. Should be done around tomorrow. thanks for looking jordan |
That body fits perfectly, I think. I just hope you can keep it off it's lid- would hate to see it get all scratched up.
|
Quite Impressive to say the least.
|
Thanks guys!
Not too fussed about this body honestly, i think i'll use it as my 'basher' body  RCShocker: Thanks for the tips on dying the wheels. Turned out perfect!! I'm going to get pics of the Tango tonight after i get back from work. Stay tuned!! jordan |
Got some pics of the Tango. I think it turned out really well. I've got a kinda 360 degree view for you guys.
http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...x/DSC00997.jpg http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...x/DSC00998.jpg http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...x/DSC00999.jpg http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...x/DSC01000.jpg http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...x/DSC01001.jpg http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...x/DSC01002.jpg http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...x/DSC01003.jpg http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...x/DSC01004.jpg http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...x/DSC01006.jpg thanks for looking!! jordan |
veeeerrrryyy nice rig you got there, although, i think the rear of the body should be mounted a little lower.. just my double pennies.
|
Ooh, nice. I just noticed the dimples in the shell for if it were mounted on a 1/8 scale- are they really that much longer than a 1/10 MT?....
Looks very slick. |
body is for revo and revo has rear body mount way back than maxx does
|
thanks guys! the rear of the body is as low as it can go. I might be able to go lower, but would have to cut the whole back of the body out to lower it, so i didn't think it was worth it. If you look in the pics with no shell, you can see the body posts sitting on the VBS.
Not much more to get now! Hopefully the MMM or the Quark will be released pretty soon! jordan |

A quick update
hi everyone,
just thought id let you guys know how the build is coming along... i just ordered some parts for my centre diff conversion: Xray Al. mounting plate set HB hardened lightning centre diff 3mm sheet of CF i'll post pics and progress as the CD is built, i'm going to run the kyosho 44t spur with a 12t pinion should be geared for around 65 mph :mdr: I'd like to thank linc, its me and everyone else for their help to get this CD going  You're gonna call me crazy for this... I ordered a Neu 1527/1D/F/H :gasp:, 2300kv and 4 inches long!!! I also got the heli version, which has a fan mounted to the back similar to the bigmaxximums, not that its gonna need it, it'll just look awesome  I got some pics of a Neu with the rear fan mount and it looks like the rear endbell is sealed by the fan, and the ducts direct airflow over the motor, so should be ok with regards to the dust situation. All i need now is an MMM, DX3R, 2 Neu 30C 5000 mah 3s lipos, and a good charger, and this thing is gonna be an absolute beast :diablo: thanks alot, i'll get pics as soon as i can jordan |
It sounds like you have a plan!
Make sure also that you support the back end of the motor so it doesn't shear-off when you land your first jump! :oh: |
Mad-man...
|
Well i got the first of a few incoming packages today. I recieved my Xray CD mounts and HB CD.
http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...x/DSC01012.jpg http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...x/DSC01014.jpg http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...x/DSC01015.jpg Should be getting the cf in a few days, and i ordered a custom motor adapter plate from Mike to suit the 1527's 4mm screws (awesome customer service :great:). Also have 3 44t kyosho CD spurs coming and a set of black anodized Dace servo clamps. I think ill try and make a cusom motor mount out of the 3mm cf i have coming before i hack up my Gmaxx single mount. one last thing, if i got a Hyperion 610i, would i be able to charge 2 3s batts at the same time by making an 2-1 adapter, or do i need the 610i DUO for that? cos the 610i is rated for 6s. i'll keep you posted jordan |
Got some pics for you guys...
Just installed my Dace servo clamps and let me say, if you have $15 burning a hole in your pocket, get some, they are awseome. Also got a pic of the sheet of cf that i got for the CD. Haven't made too much progress on the CD as im still waiting for some parts i need for the mockup ie. motor, spurs etc. Anyway here are some pics... http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...x/DSC01017.jpg http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...x/DSC01018.jpg http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...x/DSC01023.jpg Im also going to get an Upgrade RC carbon fibre skin for the OFNA wing, should look trick. Still can't decide on a radio though, Nomadio REACT, or Spektrum DX3R. I was going to get the Spektrum, but to get telemtry such as speed, temps and battery voltage i think you have to get another seperate kit , whereas the REACT offers those readings, which are really the only ones i want... oh well  thanks for looking jordan |
Dude.. That’s so cool, love the customization.. Cant wait to see your next update.. Good luck with your Radio selection..
Have a great one.. . |
Updates!!!!
hi everyone,
ok, been a while since i last posted and i have made some progress on the build. First up, i got a CF wing vinyl from Upgrade RC for my OFNA HD wing, and it looks awesome, also got some RCM decals and JConcepts decals. I redid the front lights and grill on the body because i got sick of the stock stickers, (10 points if you can guess what lights they are) and on the right side it now says JCONCEPTSilluzion instead of illuzionJCONCEPTS. if you look at the past body pics you'll know what i mean. Anyways... the wing http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...x/DSC01035.jpg http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...x/DSC01045.jpg the lights, went for the 'angry eyelids' look :diablo: http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...x/DSC01047.jpg ok, now to the centre differential. I recieved my 1527 adapter plate and kyosho spurs from Mike, (thanks alot Mike!!, top notch stuff) and could get the first stages of the CD happeneing. I cut out a mounting plate for the diff to sit on out of CF, and have a rough idea of how the motor is going to be attached. Unfortunately i can't make much more progress until the motor arrives as i need that to mock up the exact placement of the CD unit and motor mount. Here are some pics: mounting plate, you can see i botched up some holes and had to make them a little bigger, can't be seen when its bolted on anyway. http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...x/DSC01053.jpg 1527 dust cover/adapter plate from Mike http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...x/DSC01050.jpg Bottom plate mounted http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...x/DSC01065.jpg Have some pics of roughly how i think the CD will be placed, and if you could imagine a motor coming off the pinion and mount, thats about where it will be. http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...x/DSC01060.jpg http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...x/DSC01061.jpg thats about it, now i just really need that motor!! Also good to hear that the MMM's are going alright, maybe a bug here and there, but that should all be sorted by the time i end up getting one  thanks for looking jordan |
Wow..
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.. Damm that is one sweeeeat truck.. :yipi:
When will the team see it Rolling?? Enquiring minds want to know.. Have a great one Jordan!.. Shaun. |
