Yes, thanks Patrick! Would it be a core swap, or would you have us 6 mm guys just ship back the old motor?

+1, a new rotor would sure be nice. Very nice gesture and much appreciated.

thankyou

I got a 6x16x5 bearing for mine and just an FYI is is the WRONG size. I need to measure mine again and order another bearing, this motor is proving to be a pain in the ass.

EDIT: Measure twice, buy once. it's 6x17x6. Boca has a good selection of them, should hold up as well or better than the stock one anyway.

I finally got mine today. Post office beat up the shipping box pretty good.

1520 vs C40 hacker.

As far as mounting, I bought a Tungsten Carbide cutter for my Dremel (Part number 9903) and it made mince-meat of my RC-M motor mount. I widened the channels to accept the 4mm screws in about 30 seconds then spent a minute or two smoothing it out and it came out great.

Mounting in a Muggy is a piece of cake and there is plenty of room for gearing. There's still space between the motor and chassis and I can push the motor all the way into the chassis brace and have the rotor so close you could probably put a 9T pinion (or maybe smaller) on it and not have an issue. Can't speak for other 1/8th scales but with a quick bit of Dremelling on the mount it mounts up very well. I'm glad they put 4mm mounting screws on this motor, it's heavy enough that the extra strength may come in handy.

Anyone know what the max rpm on 1520 is?

Mine says 60K max on the endbell.

bruce750i 12.19.2009 02:42 PM

It looks great U Spy! Nice work with the dremel.

Urgeoner 12.20.2009 01:50 AM

So has anyone had a chance to actually run this motor? I know it's 45k max, but is it fast enough?

I have here is some Video of it in my Project: Savage X-17

It all depends on your gearing. This motor should be able to pull some crazy (1/8 scale) gear ratios.
Assuming the esc and lipos can handle it.

Urgeoner 12.20.2009 02:54 PM

That looks really cool Bruce! I like the center diff especially!

Is it fast enough? Most here run about 35-40k rpms on their MT setups. I have run motors closer to 50k for lighter vehicles, 10th scale and 1/8 buggies, but those motors were smaller/lighter...

Holding it in my hand I have a feeling it will easily eclipse the power my neu 1521 1y on 6s puts down. That is a 1600kv motor on 6s, so not beating 40k rpms... The 1717 will have more torque than the 1521, but may spool up slightly slower. I have a feeling it will really weed out the crap lipos though, hope the 40c zippies can keep up.

I need to get suspension back under my lst and give this bad boy a try, My 2nd tdr mount came in, and this one has the m4 sized front plate so I can run my 1717 without the rcm thread adapter plate. I will get it together at work tomorrow and post some pics of the motor correctly mounted with the new tdr plate and the 25/63 gearing.

Hope to have the battery tray made up and the truck running by christmas!
