Krawlin 02.13.2011 03:01 AM

That is not a 1/8 motor. That is a speedpassion 1/10 turd with a 1/8 badge- same size & style as a hvmaxx motor ( 380xl in a 550 can ). Any true 1/8 motor would not have a kv much in excess of ~2500kv...

Start your own thread if you want to post pictures and discuss your setup. :rules:

what do you mean about first version? there is allready a second version or i got the first one after you?

nms 02.13.2011 08:19 PM

here is the result of my first day working in the MGT conversion

chassis cuted fot the 50t sput feet work well

http://i1192.photobucket.com/albums/...k/spur5otb.jpg

the test's to study everything gone stay

http://i1192.photobucket.com/albums/...lok/testeb.jpg

http://i1192.photobucket.com/albums/...ok/ensaiof.jpg

http://i1192.photobucket.com/albums/...ok/ensaioh.jpg

once the motor is two big and only have 2 screws holding him to the motor mount i dicided to do a piece to support the rear part of the motor. it will be fixed to the chassis

http://i1192.photobucket.com/albums/...portemotor.jpg

and because my chassis in thinner than the original i will use only one lipo so i will try to put everything in the middle escept the mamba esc. i will make a base in aluminium for base and to support that base near to the motor mount a will make this piece.

http://i1192.photobucket.com/albums/...uportelipo.jpg

maybe at the end the mgt work's fine

Krawlin 04.15.2011 04:28 AM

Just finished putting it all back together to run it for the first time in months, but this time with a CCNeu 1520, and this thing really caught me off guard. I wasn't expecting a whole lot more power than what my Tekin truggy motor was putting out, and I was blown away by how this motor performs.

The body I had on the truck was new before I ran it, now it has extreme road rash. :mdr: I would say torque wise there is at least a 50% increase over the Tekin (just from my observations, I don't have any eagletree data stuff), and running a 10 tooth pinion, 1 tooth more than what I typically ran with the Tekin truggy motor, there seems to be about a 5 MPH top speed increase (the Kv is different between the two, Tekin was 1550Kv, 1520-CCNeu is 1600Kv). The Tekin truggy motor could throw this truck around like a rag doll, but this 1520 beats that rag doll like it's a red headed step child!

And the best part of all, the only thing that broke, was the splines stripped out of the plastic servo arm I had on it, not bad for the first run in a little under a year. Not to mention, my temps and runtime were great, ran it hard for a solid 10 minutes with no signs of battery fade, and at the 10 minute mark I checked the temps on everything. Outside ambient temps were 59*F, motor was 87*F, ESC temp with new continuous running 4.9CFM fan was 85*F, and battery temps were 75*F and 74*F. This 1520 runs cooler than the Tekin did, my guess is because it's more motor moving the same weight but not having to work as hard to do it because of the power increase. I'd say I have a pretty damn efficient setup though. :intello:

I promise I will get pictures of the truck tomorrow after I clean up the wiring a bit.

Other plans include using Savage Flux battery trays, shortening them, and machining the chassis to move them in towards the central tube of the chassis, and machine a section to move the servo inboard as well, find a new ESC mounting location and ditch the mud guards so I can run a narrower body to make it look right.

Stay tuned folks, and my apologies for disappearing for a while there, have had a busy schedule for the past couple of months.

The Dude 04.16.2011 04:05 PM

nice to see you're always here :yipi:

I'm waiting your pics, curious to see where you gone with your mill

I'm looking too for a way for centering my battery

at my last run I bend my second NewEra tower.... front bumper, servo case, bend the rear A-arm mount, and kill the body........

and nms ???? where are you man ???? you're MGT must run at this time !!!

and you guys ??? how it goes for you ??

Krawlin 05.21.2011 09:23 PM

Sorry for the lack of updates lately guys, I am going to be selling this truck as a roller. Basically it's come down to the fact that it isn't the right truck for what I want to do when I bash, and thats doing big jumps and very rough terrain, and while it is a much better truck than the Maxx IMO, it's still no Savage, which really is the next step up in MT's in my opinion. The MGT does still have some of the weird designs similar to a Maxx, like poor steering geometry, not that much suspension travel (compared to a Savage or LST2), and the lower hinge pins are not supported completely on both sides of the arm, which still allows them to bend and puts it in the same boat as the Maxx. The upper arm mounts keep bending due to how close together the screws are and the lack of support of the upper arm mount where the pin goes through it. In other words, it's been a great truck, and it is much better than my old Maxx ever was, but it just isn't the right truck for me anymore, so it must go to fund other builds, like a 1520 powered 6S Savage XL.

I will be taking pics of it for a for sale ad tonight and I will post them in here to give the truck one final hurrah before it moves on to someone else. The pics of it will be of the setup that it has been running for about the past 3 months with no driveline issues what so ever (The MGT driveline is bullet proof) and has been alot of fun.

I don't want to cut this build thread short for the other guys though and I hope they continue posting their E-MGT's here, as it is a great source of information for others looking to convert their MGT with a center diff.

And the build process itself here has been excellent and I appreciate all the advice and help the other members here have given me, this is by far the best and most informative RC forum on the net with the best crowd I've seen to date. I'm not leaving for good, but it will probably be a few months before I start another build here as I am going to be picking up a Serpent S811T truggy over the summer and it will be nitro just like the rest of my fleet so I wont have much to contribute here for a while.

Be sure to check back sometime tonight for pics of the MGT.

Thanks,
Chris
