My Home Brew

OK guys I went crazy waiting for Mike's motor mount. So I decided to knock my own conversion. I did this to see how this truck handles and perhaps even do the crazy speed runs.

I could not mount the motor on the usual location on the right as it was going to foul the plate and side guards. I am also using one of the older square can Tekno Neu motor which is large and would have overhung off the plate (not so good)

So I decided to put the motor where the engine used to be. I did not reverse the diff so I had to carefully position the motor. To achieve the gear mesh I had to use a 24tooth Mod 1 Pinion.

I only had a 1515 1Y motor in square can so I had to make this work somehow. I made a battery tray out of kydex and screwed it on top of the square can motor with a support over the diff. This tray is so strong I cannot prise it off the truck - in fact I lift the truck off the ground using the battery tray.

The body fits perfectly without any modifications. I know when you look at it looks very bulky with a large 5000ma 6S pack on the top but I thought I might as well be nutz about this.

The truck goes like stink - now I havent stuck a thermometer to get exact temps but the motor does not get very hot to touch to the point it singes my fingers. Certainly the MMM does not appear to be unhappy as the fan only comes on briefly.

Below are some photos - you can see the spur does not appear to be damaged after driving this truck for over an 1 hour.

I am in the process of working out a deal on a Mamba Monster ESC and 2200Kv motor combo. Will there be any issues using this combo on Mike's conversion kit? I just want to be sure it will work before I pull the trigger.

The kits are available now - the Castle 2200Kv combo will be a direct fit if you use the traxxas ERevo ESC holder to attach he ESC to the battery tray, bparanoid. :)

time to start shopping! The deal on Castle 2200Kv fell through :(

Looking good, just trying to resist the urge.

how would this ten-t SCT conversion run on 2s? My club is having an "open" class but is keeping the battery limit to 2s to keep out the 1/8 buggys with a SCT body. This little car seems to weigh as much as my 808. Doesnt seem like it would be a 2s option.

Yes... but with conservative gearing you will have limited motor choices. You will need something along the lines of a Medusa 50mm in the 3000-4800kv range to be effective with only 2s lipo due to the size. Most standard 1/10 stuff won't hold up iMO, even w/ a lightened load.

For 2s a lot of people run the novak hv's. I have a 6.5 in my jammin for an indoor track and I have heard 4.5's work great for 8th scale size tracks.

As for the weight I am curious to know what the sct converted one weights. Think the tires have to be lighter then the truggy style ones that come with the truck. Also going to 2s and a smaller motor should save some weight. Probably only a little heavier then the ofna/jammin 4x4's.

:yipi:, ordered my kit last night! I am just not sure what motor to put in. I have a 1900kv tekin motor, or a 2200kv castle system.
