Looks like Castle pulled through for us, too bad I already have an MGM 16018 for my BL Muggy project. I may be getting a Hyper 7 for free, and that may get a CC Neu combo  |
I have been running my MMM V2 through the paces... So far she just keeps on rippin' :yipi:
I posted this in another forum, but I thought it may apply here as well... For those that have been asking about the fan wire rubbing issue that the V1 had.... Castle has addressed this issue. For those unfamiliar with this, look at the following pic of a mmm v1; http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k1...sam/MMCASE.jpg The case was rubbing the wires bare and in some cases broke fan plugs off. ---Patrick said this would be addressed, and it was. Their solution was a foam pad that conforms to the electronics and prevents the wires and such from rubbing; http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k1...m/IMG_1373.jpg Also, people did not like the fan in the MMM V1. They have had a very high failure rate. In V2, the fan only comes on when the ESC is at 150F or higher;(patrick mentions this in another thread) Castle now includes an insert that addresses this. http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k1...m/fanstuff.jpg On a side note, To prevent my E-revo from the possibility of looking like this; http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k1...m/IMG_4482.jpg I made a metal (Al) plate to cradle my MMM V2 in; http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k1...m/IMG_1374.jpg http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k1...m/IMG_1375.jpg http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k1...m/IMG_1377.jpg The plate is DS Taped and screwed into the chassis, the MMM is DS taped and Zip-Tied to the plate. If it burns up, at least the plastic wont melt too much. (thanks for the idea, neil) Anyway, Hope this helps others that are on the fence about the MMM V2. Its working great so far. Tho, with the support Castle has been giving, i'm not worried in any case. Even if it fails, they are on their game. They will take care of it. Still my top pick for upgrading the e-revo As for the abuse; I have run my MMM on 4s and 6s. I use a Tekno Neu 1515/1Y in my e-revo. My gearing was 24/58. I did full throttle into full braking. High speed runs back to back. :diablo: Tall grass running (taller than the truck) I was able to get my 6s batteries to 130F (2 3s zippy 4300's) oops My motor to 203F (not good) All the while my fan on my MMM turned on for about 2 minutes. The highest temp was 155F. It was about 94F outside when I did most of my "testing". When running my 4s set-up; The motor hit 178F The batteries hit 118F (2 2s true rc 8000mAh 15c) The MMM fan turned on, but by the time I got the body off the truck to check the temps it had already shut off. so 148F when I checked it. I have since, changed my gearing to 24/62. My highest motor temp now has been 174F. will probably move to 24/65 gearing. the power of this set-up is incredible. great job castle! |
Nice ESC mount
Thanks for the photos |

This is what the dremel job looked like on my V1. I just did the same thing on the V2 and left the pad out. You still need to open up the spot on the top case where the controler and switch wires come out as well. Nothing chaged from V1 to V2. Still a tight fit and still rubbing the wires. Open up the slot on the cse a bit and wrap a few layers of electrical tape around the wires and its fine. I also cut the fan grill out on the V2. The fan still catches on it when it turns on and kills the fan. It just lasts 3 packs now instead of 1. As long as the BEC doesnt quit, they have done enough. The rest can be fixed ourselves. with 10 minutes and a dremel. http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h2...z/CIMG3209.jpg |

Jhautz- might I enquire as to which dremel attachment you used to make such a clean job?
|
Yeah same, I wonder if you could use the drill press thing and use it as a kind of dodgy mill.

doing the drememling on the cases should not void the warranty. if it does, i will be pretty upset as i was told by one of the customer service reps from CC that i should dremel the casing when i told him i had a fan failure.

The CC rep told you to dremel the case , why was this not done from the factory then  I did not cancel my back order ( as i was going to ) after seeing the mostly positive results with V2 and it looks like the order is being procesed tomorrow :yipi:. However i am not impressed that you still have to do the same mods to V2 as you did with V1 and the CC reps are recommending the mods . Why weren't these issues resolved ? |
My Tower Order (placed May 6), now shows "invoiced, processing in warehouse". Damn, and I leave Tuesday morning for the Ocean...there is no way its going to get to me in time, I was hoping to have it prior to going out there. Watch it get stolen off my front porch while I'm gone.....that would just figgure after waiting this long!
