Yeah, I use the extended arms. The dog bones seem strong as h-ll.. I have driven this set-up on grass with no visible twisting of the dog bones at all. You can buy spare dog bones on the FLM homepage if needed, so just go ahead with a extension:party:

Finally an update..

I just received the Schulze ESC back from service - with the worst thinkable scenario "no fault found - check the motor"..

Crap

Before sending the ESC I checked the motor by running it at 6s, as that was the highest voltage working ESC I had. The motor seemed to run just fine..

Anyhow - I checked the voltage on my Hyperion G3 cells, which I charged for storage last time. Negatively surprisingly I found one of the 6s packs to have a very swollen cell, the 2s pack had only 4v = destroyed. These packs has always been balanced, never charged above 5C, and totally only had 10 cycles = worst crap I have ever bought!!

Luckily I had a set of 3s 3300mAh 45-90C on the shelf, so I could set up a 12s test set up. The motor still cogged, and the heat started to build up in the ESC immy. It however appeared to function a little better than on the 14s test I did before sending it.

I see two scenarios:
1. The test at Schulze was just a diagnostic test and the ESC is still broken
2. The motor has a damaged winding enabling it to function somewhat at lower voltages.

Since I have no other motor that can handle 12s or 14s I decided to buy a Typhoon just for test. The Typhoon corresponds to the Neu 1527, but half the price (and likely half the quality). Compared to the Lehner it's about 3/4 in size and weight.

The specs are:
780KV, 38mm diam, 98mm length, 8mm axle, Pcont 2400W, Pmax 4800W, Weight 560gms.

I will post my findings on the Lehner once I have had time to take a look inside it.

My G3s are amazing! but i dont see the benefit in spending that sort of money now considering those nano tech lipos seem to be doing a great job

Actually my two chargers have had difficulties to balance these packs all the time. I kind of hoped they would improve after some more cycles, but it turned out to be the opposite..

I'll let you know my findings..

sorry but if i had spent the extortionate amount for these lipos... i would be complaining. something sounds wrong, because mine discharge very evenly and balance very well. Maybe contact hyperion and see what they say?

I will do that. I'm just a little tired of all this crap right now, takes too much time considering the progress..

Actually there is no comparison with the progress you have made with this project in such a short time. What you have created from dust is like the great phoenix. You should be justly proud of your efforts. Look at how many people have admired the work you have done with this truck. That in itself should be a testiment of your success. Sometimes we just have to take a step back, take a break, and attack from another angle. Don't get frustrated now just because of a few setbacks.

Thanks - don't worry, I wont give up.. Its just awful when you spend your money on the best stuff, and it just blows up.. Hyperion, Schulze, Jeti, Lehner - and at the same time cheap stuff for flight and small size cars from Hobbyking seem to hold up quite good, such as no name motors, turnigy, GWS...

I'm pushing it hard, but expect more... On the other hand, I have been using the combo of Lehner / MGM ESC in 1/8 track, 1/8 buggy, 1/8 monstertruck, pushing it insanely, with no failure for two years, so perhaps it is just a big bag of bad luck being dumped at me right now:diablo:

Expectations
 

Our expectations are always much higher when we pay more for such high dollar items. All in all this technology is quite new and a lot of the gear we are buying is cutting edge stuff, so there are bound to be failures and setback even with the best equipment available right now. Unfortunately we are playing in a game (R/C) that is not cheap. Especially if you want to paly with the big $$$$ toys. Even with testing these gadgits we have to lean on the manufacturers and test the warrenty polocies as well. Some will even let our mistakes go by without complaining and get us back on the road again in an effort to keep things moving forward in their field. So don't be afraid to send things back in for warrenty repairs, and just wait to see what comes of it. Time is our enemy some days, but time is also our friend if you play the game right. Your thread has been entertaining, informative, and inspiring. Keep up the good work.

Yes, the heat sink was included in the price. Cheap if it doesn't fry instantly..
