The truck weights in at 16lbs, 7,3kgs with the typhoon, 12s turnigy and tripple belted truggy tires. I'm not sure how much the Lehner with liquid cooling will add. |
I put all the stuff (in pieces) on the kitchen scale this night..
The Water cooling, including pump, bec and tubing is 170gms. Truck w motor (typhoon), receiver lipo, receiver, logging etc is 4984gms. 4 belted Wheels 989gms. 12s Turnigy nano 3300mAh = 1261gms (14s Hyperion 3300mAh = 1296gms!!) Conclusion is that the 12s set-up with the small typhoon is 7.3kgs and 14s set-up with Lehner 2280 and water cooling is 7.9kgs with fluids etc. Small weight difference for such difference in power.. |
This weekend I tried to put the large diameter HPI tires on the truck. The handling sucks - but the increased load on the motor seemed to do just good. I had higher current, which is logical, but it seem like the sweet spot for the motor was about right as well. The temperature ramp-up was slower compared to the smaller Truggy tires I have used before.

Anyhow - I have changed the gearing quite a bit so that I have the same load, but the smaller Truggy wheels so I can do some serious driving and filming this weekend:yipi: I still haven't heard from Lehners, so I will have to use the typhoon for some more time. However did I send a mail to Allerc, where I bought the hyperions with the history and some log-files etc. The cells are > 1 year now, despite my limited usage, so I did not get full refund, but at least I got a 40% discount on the new 45c packs. I hope to have a new 14s Hyperion set-up in a few weeks.. Hopefully the motor too:diablo: |

could you please try and do some long high speed runs? as i dont think we have seen this really opened up yet! How serious was your most recent crash? any of the radiators get damaged? haha never thought i would say that about a brushless truck let along a nitro truck haha |

I have been updating the original thread in Swedish during the week, but didn't have the time to do the same here. What I did was to put the large 17cm diam HPI wheels on the truck, it corresponds to a quite much higher gearing. The temp when down, and the power went up.. (The traction and handling sucks) |
So I starteg do dismount the truck and change the spur gear from 54 - 48t and the pinion from 12->14t. And then back with the belted truggy tires.

When I was about to change the LVC from 3,0-3,3v, I also noticed that I hd set the DIL switch on the ESC to "long slow-start". I did this when I had problems with the Lehner, before sending it for shipping....:oops:
So I changed to short soft-start and now there was a huge difference in how the truck responds. Looks like fun to me. It also looks like your getting some balooning with those tires. Are they taped and balanced? You do seem to have the electronics figured out fairly well. Most would overheat and or burn up at that level of power. Nice toy and nice bash place.

I just got the feedback from Lehner about the motor. The rotor was de-magnetized due to too high partial load, It will be sent back to me this week. But I have to say that the truck runs really well now with the Typhoon, I'm mighty surprised and that doesn't happen very often. Jerry, you're right, there's a slight ballooning, but its very limited. I think a partial effect comes from that the inner part of the wheel rotates earlier than the outer during acceleration.. I think these tires was the ones belted with Tesa Duck tape. I have a pair belted with the Gorilla tape as well, I will have to use those now anyway.. AND THATS WHY I DONT BUY THOSE TYRES!!! HAHA i ran one time on dirt and they were bald! Just like that! Badlands FTW!!! last much longer! The vids are great... i see what you mean by the truck not really having the top end, but i think thats because you have so much torque you just cannot put it down on dirt... Top end and accleration should be ballistic on tarmac! More TARMAC RUNS!!!! WOOP WOOP! |

True that JayJay. That thing seems to have a ton of power to put to the wheels if you can just use it in the right place under the right circumstances. You should try that truck on some tarmac and see how fast you can get it up to. I bet you would easily run up in the 70mph range and even higher if your vehicle was setup right for making those kind of runs.

That is one badass truck. That first video there, I cringed when the truck came at you and missed you by a foot or two. I wouldn't want that truck to hit me in the ankle with the weight and speed its capable of. Remember the movie Mysery?
