my buddy was trashing front and rear diffs every run with a meduas 36-80-1600 on 5cell because the slipper was to tight

the truck now has 5 runs on it with the slipper set right running a 36-80-1100 on 12cell and the diffs are still fine

I agree with SemiPro... Loosen your slipper. I used to blow rear diffs all the time, especially when running big tires. What tires are you running Ray? I was running 40 series Big Joes on 23mm Commando rims. I loosened my slipper (more than I wanted, but it's a trade off), and put on some 40series low profile Bowties and haven't had a problem since. I love big tires, but of all the tires I have ran, I always go back to 40s Bowties. They are great on everything, they are wide, low profile, and light.

I'm running on an LST2 though, and use a Neu 1515 2.5d. I think that motor is probably one the best MT motors ever made, and it LOVES 6s. Perhaps that motor you have is too much afterall Ray?

I fixed it yesterday, it was one of the sun gears that broke in two. I'll try readjusting my slipper again, it's already pretty loose but I gotta do something. Punch control is at 70% and I'm running Proline 40 series Mashers mounted on Losi 420 dish rims. They are not that heavy. I also had a bent front shock shaft. Yeah, 5 mm thick shaft is not enough to keep it from bending. Well there was this 12 foot high dirt hill and I jumped it sending the truck I don't how high. I was getting neck pains looking at it :lol: Good thing I made a spare.

I read the thread and skimmed over it a second time, I'm sorry if I missed it but-

What driveshafts did you use from the diffs to the tranny? Custom or did the stock units fit? Thank you!

I used a stock XXL middle shaft for the front of the tranny and a stock LST2 middle shaft for the rear of the tranny.

Just saw the ad over at RC Tech. Surprised to see you selling it, any reason in particular? Awesome truck, wish I had the cash. Bet it is nuts with that 1521

indeed it is nuts. Maybe a little too much :mdr: I could get a different motor to tame the beast a bit like it was suggested to me but I would rather stop spending money on this and get back to flying RC airplanes. Mainly because my son is so interested in them so I'm thinking of a couple park flyers for next summer to ease him into it. And a RealFlight simulator for this winter to let us train on. I will need some training also since I haven't flown RC airplanes in a long time.

On an another note, I gave up on my E-Revo to go with the LST because I find it is tougher and easier to work on. But there are things on the E-Revo that I really liked. The tranny for one which I installed on the LST but also the Traxxas VDPs (Variable Damping Pistons) in the shocks. So I am going to try it on the LST with these little valves I made out of a piece of thin polycarbonate from some packaging that was lying around in the recycling bin. I know Hot racing makes pistons with tapered holes which are supposed to have the same effect, I'm just trying to do it on the cheap.
The valves block 10 of the 24 holes of the piston on compression which should give better, stronger damping, and the valves bend slightly to let the oil pass through all 24 holes of the piston on the rebound.

I made a second 5 mm shock shaft and ordered the Viton O rings I linked before. When all the parts get here, I can finally try out those shafts on the front end with the VDPs front and rear.

Hey, I just wandered into this thread and saw this mod. I was actually looking at this myself, but was thinking about boring out to 6mm, as I wasn't sure 5mm would cut it. (Had integy lst shocks from a muggy at one point w/ 5mm shafts, but they were soft and bent easy too)

Basically I have LST shocks on my savage, but the shafts always bend or snap at the shock end. I took apart the cartridge the other night and saw how it was built and seemed like it could use a much thicker piston rod. Just need a lathe or something to cut 5mm threads on it.....Dunno if a hand die would work well, or if the rod finish would be too rough.

Mistercrash, saw you're interested in park flyers. I too have been bitten by the flying bug. The flight simulators definitely helped me out a bit. Now I have a Parkzone t28 trojan and a micro t28 trojan. I have to say I recommend the micro t28. Its easier to fly believe it or not, and can be flown in a smaller area. I love coming home from work and flying it up and down my block. I've hit some power lines and then the ground, but nothing has broke, only pushed the lower cowl in a little. Great little plane, and on calm days someone with only simulator experience should be fine with it.

I have toyed with buying this from Ray because it is a sweet custom truck. But my buddies and I are working on our design using the Erevo tranny, so it would be silly for me to buy this. I've begged Ray to let me buy some of his spare parts that I need, but he wants to try and sell it all in one shot. (Look at me talking about him like he's not here, ha!). Ray: if u sell it, let me know to whom so I can see if he really needs all those parts!!)

I'd like to know who out there uses big tires with a big motor, like Ray does... And if they have diff probls too? I still say if you went to a 1515 and used low profile 40s tires like Bow Ties, it would solve the probl. Maybe just a tire swap alone would? I know that on this same set up, the bigger the tires, the more prone I was to blowing diffs. This tells me that the Losi diffs may not be able to handle it. Maybe the TiNi gears would help? I'm pretty sure it's the Losi diff or nothing right? You can't run anything else?

I'm almost done with my custom XXL chassis set up, Bro too, so, I guess I'll have to find out for myself and experiment with tires. Bro uses the Nova cups. I use the HD cups. Not sure if Ray used Nova cups or not. Ray?

If you can get 6 mm shafts to work it would be good. The 5 mm shafts were better than stock but I did manage to bend one. I was able to bend it back straight. Then it did bend again in a bad landing from very high up. That's when I changed it with another 5 mm shaft I had made. I think the rods I used are just too soft.

I used Losi HD cups. As for the 40 series Mashers being too heavy, my son has the same tires on his ERBE which is running the stock Traxxas diffs. I know it's not the same truck, and not the same motor and he doesn't run on 6S. But still he uses those same tires and the puny little Traxxas diffs hold up. I think the weight of the truck is the major problem, there's no way to make it significantly lighter. And the wheel/tire combo might be a bit heavy but really they are not THAT heavy. The motor might be too torquey but this heavy truck needs torque to make interesting to play with. And if another one tells me that the slipper is too tight, I'm gonna become very very angrrrrry :lol:

I READJUSTED MY PRICE ON MY LST XXL following the suggestion of someone and his nameless friends :mdr: For those who PMed me asking for the price, I dropped that price by $50.
