he has disappeared!!! i still want to see that massive jump he was intending to do?

mckrill 01.27.2011 12:05 PM

Hey Guys!

Unfortunately - we have had snow and extremely cold weather here ever since November. I don't like to bump the tread if I have nothing to report so...

Anyhow - this last weekend, the snow was almost gone and it was "kind of dry", so I took her for a little spin on the hill were the jump will be done.. No friend could come to shoot the film, so I just played around in the grass.

I was running 12s. That seem to be a perfect compromise between speed, drive-ability and heat generation. I still haven't had the time to download the log-file. Work is hectic and my private business takes some time too:oh:

I'll post the log soon, but I guess a movie would be better??

Jahay 01.27.2011 12:10 PM

haha a movie would be nice haha

Its good to hear you havent abandoned the project!!!

mckrill 01.27.2011 12:14 PM

Thanks for showing the interest.. I have been out with the truck a few times this winter trying to find a spot with no snow, but this year has been extreme. Normally we have a week a year with snow, but this year it has been close to 2 solid months, and yesterday night it started again:cry:

Jahay 01.27.2011 12:16 PM

Look at the plus side of things... You dont need to run your water cooling it is so cold haha :)

Can't wait to see what else you are going to do with this savage.. Great Job man..

The spring arrived (almost)

Wet outside, but after 3 months of snow & waiting I've had it, I went out and had a little spin today!

A wonderful day for a 2-child parent; the local barn shop, RC flight, RC car with crashing and then some time with my computer with some drinks:drunk:

Well...
One of the problems with a 15lbs monster truck with belted Truggy tires is that it's impossible to lift the nose by "flooring the throttle" - you'll see it at the end of the clip:oops: (With the ballooning tires it's easy to lift the nose or flip the truck over)

I didn't give a crap and gave it all I had/could - I can fix anything anyway:lol: and when the spring arrives that grass will most likely be to long to jump the hill anyway!

The setup was 12s, it's the most feasible voltage, both from a drive ability perspective as well as from the temperature point of view.

I'm sorry if the clip is booring, the focus sucks (new bad Casio camera), bad editing and no music (but with commentary in Swedish:yes:). You don't have to remind me of the above..

Enjoy my (un)luck! I have some repairing to do - but I enjoy to escape to my garage anyway:whistle:

Great video, nice air and carnage !

josh9mille 02.06.2011 02:56 PM

pretty impressive!

mckrill 02.06.2011 03:48 PM

I just wish I can get you all a nice landing too... But first I have to contact Mike or FLM for the spare parts needed.. (Upper arm and lost dogbone)

ANGRY-ALIEN 02.06.2011 05:29 PM

:surprised:... gosh that's got some serious power... you need to work on sticking your landings though...... good stuff man, I just love the noise that motor makes..

Jahay 02.06.2011 05:59 PM

WOAH THOSE WERE SOME HUGE JUMPS!

i am very tempted at the moment to get those alloy arms... but it all depends on whether they survived that last landing?

Did you just rip the arm from the bulk head? or did you bend the arm at all??? bend the drive shaft???

Was there any other damage to anything after that huge crash????

Nice video!

edit...
So only damage to upper arm and lost dog bone!!!

So the bottom arm had no bends? or damage at all???

Great video

I finally had the time to sit down and actually watch your video, and I have to say that it looks like great fun. It was also nice to hear your kid laughing it up and enjoying your playtime. I have watched your project from the very begining, and I have to say I love your work. From the hand made custom chassis, to the awsome power of that setup you installed this thing is a model of inspiration for many of us. Nice work and thank you for sharing your achievement. Keep up the good work.

mckrill 02.07.2011 02:37 PM

Thanks for the nice words!!

To summarize:
FLM Dogbone - lost, but I actually suspect it to be OK
FLM Lower arm - OK
FLM Upper arm - see picture (anyone know if the aluminium part close to the bulkhead is the same for the normal and the extended version 84mm / 3.5Inch? (as they are available as spares))
Bulkhead - ripped the hinge pin out of it..
The braces for cramping the hinge pins to the bulkhead - both ripped apart
LST shocks - snapped the shaft
Wheels - Right front wheel had the center ripped off as shown on the images at the end of the video.

Everything else on the truck - OK

I will have to check with Mike for the FLM parts as I bought them at rc-monster. (I'll search for the dogbonbe this weeken and try to straighten the upper arm - maybe, maybe:angel:
