I did have use it on 2S2P A123, after a complete run pack come out warm. Unfortunatly I have nothing reliable to measure amp draw in a run :/

I suspect these tekin motors need a lot of current to get them going and in my opinion a123 cells are not quite good enough in 1p format to provide motors with full 540 size rotors with the current they need.

I ran in 1P mode. The 8s 4400kv feigao motor has more ummphh in 3s1p then the Tekin motor.

But the motor might be "designed" like that.

I run 278 sometimes on 2s2p, it goes strong enough, 1p can deliver up to 70Ampers, so that is not that bad, try 2p if want to go safer.

Mister-T 08.13.2008 11:36 AM

So Kajman,
Tekin 278 fits your need ? is that the speed you neeeded ?

Kajman 08.13.2008 11:45 AM

Yeah, it is quite powerful, enough to use current limiters :) It is very quiet because of closed design, because of that little bit hotter, but anyway, very good engine untill now :) Speed is ok, I run it on my onroad and it is enough for everyday use :)

chilledoutuk 08.13.2008 03:42 PM

a123 cells can deliver 70 amps yes but what people forget is that the voltage at this load drop significantly more so than normal lipo battery's.

You know what i would like to see would be an eagletree of one of these motors on a really powerful battery pack to see what current they really like to draw.

would a lower kv tekkin motor be good for a crt.5?

I was going to use one when I was going to do a conversion for a CRT.5. The Traxxas VXL motor is a popular motor used in the CRT.5 and it is a 3500KV. Tekin make a Redline in a 3700KV which should be perfect

Kajman 09.02.2008 12:27 PM

any idea anyone what timing is the best??

Mister-T 09.02.2008 12:56 PM

I'm running custom 8 ° on my mamba max. It give sligthly more punch

Tekin motor are smaller, there are short can like castle motor

Mike.L 09.02.2008 03:54 PM

but a lower kv motor on the correct pinion to gear ratio then perhaps it shouldn't be a problem???

-note even though it is the same size as the mm cans..

Mister-T 09.02.2008 04:34 PM

Might run a little hot. And might appear a little tame if your planning to bash in the street. But if it's for local race track it will be ok

snellemin 09.02.2008 05:54 PM

I found the graph of the 448 Tekin motor on 4s A123.

60/14 gearing in a Rustler with 4" tires.
