Still, you can't match the original, thunder tech CORR truck kit, with RPM arms, rock solid chassis, Lexan AND Hard plastic display body that you can repaint, tamiya high lift wheels and tires, and a whole lot more: http://www.thundertechracing.com/pro2a.htm |
Anyone here seen the thundertech corr truck? I have a feeling that this traxxas truck will be better, but bigger too.

Check this one out. The LHS has one of these in stock and I was checkin it out the other day. Looks like a truggy chassis with buggy arms. Funky looking but looks like it could be fun. I also saw in one of the magazines that CEN is coming out with a truck similar to the robotronic one I posted above and it will be based on the cen matrix suspesion and drivetrain with exteneded chassis. I think I would rather convert one of these and run the 4 wheel drive than the traxxas 2wd offering. But... the traxxas will certainly be cheaper. |
Well, I for one will buy one of these. I really like the pede/rustler platform and think that this new truck will be too cool. Plus it will be lightweight and not require an expensive motor/esc combo to run it. That being said I think that a 4s setup with a mgm 80 and an aveox 2500 kv motor will be my power choice! Only because I have everything!

The BR50 Trophy from Robitronic also sparked my interest as i run a Robitronic Mantis truggy and do like realistic bodys. Like you mentioned it has the chassis of the mantis truggy but uses the arms/tires of the robitronic Protos buggy. Only a few new parts were used (shocks ...). Before it was available (Robitronics headquarter is a 5 minute drive from my place) i mixed the truggy and buggy parts myself just to see how the chassis will handle this way. Pics of this hybrid (truggy+buggy parts): pic1, pic2, pic3 I even made a video of it running on asphalt: video (had an issue with the front right bone which was too short, the BR50 has cvds) As i didn't made any shock adjustments and had a somewhat smaller trackwidth as the BR50 Trophy truck it was rather hard to control. The buggy tires had troubles to put the torque to the ground. Nevertheless it was fun to drive. Handled more like my former converted buggy. But when i drove it on gras and rougher terrain it was a bumpy ride. With the truggy arms and tires the chassis was by far more stable. So all in all i would compare its handling to a buggy. Energy consumption also was more like in my brushless buggy (kind of expected as it wheighed way less with the smaller buggy tires). If the trophy from Robitronic would have bigger tires it would be more appealing to me. With the small buggy tires its offroad capabilities are limited (quite comparable to a 1:8 buggy). The trophy seems to be better suited for race tracks. |
My personal feeling is: Meh...
Looks scale, but its just a pede with a new shell and chassis. I think someone said this is to distract us while traxxas work on the BL emaxx 3905 or E-revo, - I sure hope so. Othello- you will be able to help me hopefully; what is the difference between the Mantis, and the mantis txs ?... I cant figure it for the life of me... |
@suicideneil
. TXS: 3 ported OEM axial nitro motor (not the 8 ported axial spec2). No big difference in power output though. . TXS: only the front axle is equipped with universal joint shafts, rest are dogbones (the mantis rtr has universal joint shafts all around). . TXS: Less accessory -> no additional clutch bells, ... You can consult the manuals online to compare both versions: . Mantis rtr manual . Mantis txs manual |
Cheers Othello!

Yeah it's has similarities with a pede there's no denying that. Let's lok at the fact that the truck will be very reasonably priced. I like my emaxx don't get me wrong. What I'm tired of is charging and maintaining all the batteries. 2 packs per run.(my charger does 2 at a time but still) This would run nicely with just one pack. The stampede and rustler have been clocked at over 70 mph just about stock, with just some simple gearing changes on a VXL. This has to be capable of closely the same thing. I think it will be less work and more fun. I may part out my g2 chassis 'ed emaxx just to fund this project.
You can also race side to side without rubbing wheels. I think that will be really cool. It's all plastic too and the parts will be cheap. |
I really like the scale look of this new vehicle, but for the internals, like Neil said; "meh".
|
I am not sure if anyone has noticed this, But the chassis has bell crank steering. Which means there might be an evolution coming for the stampede XL/VXL series

I'll get one (my first Traxxas product) to bash around the neighborhood w/, slap a Sidewinder and a 5700 in it and this thing could be a blast!
