Neil, while I know get annoyed at the beginers never the less is patient, witty and takes time to help out and explain/recommend solutions. He is an asset to both forums. All I'm saying is that everyone was a noob at one time and you need to can the holier than thous attitudes. If you look at some of the elitist wanna be experts on any of the forums and search their earlier posts you will find that they have learned a lot and asked their share of stupid questions.

+1,

As we were all noobs and kids at some point and time....

way OT here. there are too many self styled experts around in any forums. i never understood how there could be such a thing as 'smart experts' and 'dumb noobs' in rc-forums. all i see is users with less or more experience. words like 'educate' or 'god' or whatever are very suspicious to me. it makes me feel that some people think they have eaten rc-wisdom for breakfast. imo all you can share in forums is your assistance and experience. not more and not less.

i see that there could be high level theoretical discussions on a more formal level about some special fields in physics that apply to the rc world. not just some basic formulas but a real debate. however my feeling is that there are very few theoretical "experts" with a solid background (read somebody with at least a BA or MA in physics or a similar field) around in rc-forums. i can understand that fully. because i guess if i would really understand much of the 'background' things going on in my rc-model i would go crazy with all the trashtalking going on in rc-forums. so probably those guys prefer to stay out of such (annoying) discussions.

that leaves us with more or less mostly as beginners with just some degree of experience.

IMO, yes, stupid noobs do exist. They are the folks too dumb to use the search function on a forum and end up asking the same exact question that has been answered multiple times previously on said forum. I don't care if they have no experience in RC, if they are too lazy to at least attempt a search first, I'm too busy to help them. I'm of the mindset that today's youth expects immediate gratification and their lack of using the search function on a forum goes hand in hand with this expectation they have.

^^^^^^^
i agree. I don't mind helping the people who need helping. But like skellyo said if the question has been asked multiple times before they should be able to read up on the posts to get the answer. yes we were all noobs and young (or still young like me) once, but there has to be a line with common sense. i have always said common sense isn't very common

Exactly.

Yes, we all start somewhere, but many of the questions you see posted have been answered TONS of times (sometimes just a little bit further down the page). Just try using the search. Not ragging on newbs, just the ones that expect everyone to answer whatever inane question that pops in their heads. Like skyello said; "instant gratification".

As far as the calc goes, everyone is entitled to their opinion. If someone doesn't like it, don't use it. It's there for those who do. It was originally intended to stop (or reduce) the myriad "how fast will my setup go" and "what gearing should I use" type of questions.

I know what you mean, like at one point after christmas on one of the UK forums, on the first page of the nitro section literally every thread was about Hyper 7's, which was utterly annoying. I can understand if the search function was rubbish (like on some if you spell something one letter wrong then it throws out random results) or if it was something truely confusing and they needed help.

Anyway, Neil for god? Smart move :mdr:

ALL HAIL NEIL

Neil while I have your attention...if I put two velinions in an emaxx how fast will it be on two 1500mah nicad's?...

oh and what run times can I expect?

BrianG 05.21.2008 05:02 PM

^^^^ lol!

rhylsadar 05.21.2008 06:12 PM

yeah we can now make a joke out of this.
and yes probably suicideneil meant the wording with a certain extent of irony. thats my interpretation of his response.
however i was just taking his words as an example. but imo it is exactly that attitude that some 'more experienced' users sometimes show in their answers. and thats something i don't like.
for the rest i agree on the argument of excessive laziness of some 'fresh' users.

I don't think it's fair to blame the MM failures on morons. In reality, the battery being not up to par, or the motor being not quite right, should not cause the ESC to burst into flames, or stop working before it hits the ground.

I'm not trying to say anything bad towards castle either, but it seems there have been more problems than I would expect, and I maintain, that if the battery is not quite up to par, the ESC should cut out from hitting the LVC, not burst into flames or otherwise fail.

HAHAHA. Great thread. I'm a member of another rc forum (won't mention names) and you should hear some of the guys over there beat down on the "noobs" if the "noobs" don't bow to them. Not much of a fan of this other forum due to some of their policies and the many arrogant members that make so many threads painful to read.

It just makes me appreciate this forum so much more.

Mozzy 05.22.2008 11:40 AM

Yeah, I thought it was a valid thread seeing that I started it & doesn't look like anyone can keep to the topic, but, I'm having a laugh anyway.

By the way, who ever said electricity & water don't mix mustn't be stirring long enough!

Actually, I know of guy's that break in brushed motors in a glass of water, go figure.

Oh & Tim, does that toy you're holding take a 1, 2 or 3s pack & what's the runtime?
