Oooooo...that's what I was afraid of. I don't know if I'm willing to grind down my heatsink clamp or not. The FLM tranny is starting to look really good now. :mdr:

I ran my Slash with 40/12 and a 2s lipo for a little up and down my street, but I'll have to wait to try it on 3s and check the temps.

Here's a pic of mod1 gears with the stock 48p spur on top and a mod0.8 (32p) spur for a Jato to the left. Revos use mod1 gears as well as all 1/8 scale buggies.

a 9l with 5mm shaft can be found here http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...4&v=&sortlist=

but i have never gotten one from them i have a feigao one but id get this as the next best thing or 2 of them they are cheap you could try the 7L same kv as traxxas vxl motor and 9L the 4s champion at 60us for both its a steal plus delivery of course but youll still need monster mikes awesome mod 1 pinions

rootar 07.10.2008 07:27 AM

usig the 9L on 3s start with a 40/13 and if your motor is getting hot and the esc alot lower try gearing up to a 40/14 but with either of these i think youll be more than happy as it will still pull a wheelie from 3/4 throttle roll.

and no the gear cover will not fit back on there, but as others told me its no big deal the mod1 gears spit out dirt like its nothing.

rcsammy 07.10.2008 07:39 AM

wow those motors are cheap
are they the same as the feigao 9L? they seem a but too cheap if you get what i mean

rootar why would gearing up make the motor run cooler?

edit: also what the difference between the different motors? like the 7,8,9 L, XL...

the differance in number eg 7 8 9L is kv the L motor 60 mm long the xl is 70 mm long the xL you can gear it up more and they tend to have lower kv which will produce less heat and they are cheap motor but if you do the right thing by them they will go great

rcsammy 07.10.2008 08:00 AM

ok then
so the 9L
http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...hless_Inrunner

and while im ordering from hobbycity i might aswell try out a zippy lipo
either this:
https://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/...idProduct=6501
or this:
https://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/...idProduct=6350
i guess the zippy-H is the better pack?

and then a motor heatsink clamp and some mod1 pinions from mike

hailmick 07.10.2008 08:11 AM

yes the zippy h is a better pack but its a 20 day wait
the heat sink clamp and pinions from mike are a good idea

rcsammy 07.10.2008 10:28 AM

well im stil waiting for my MM to come back from castle so another wait wont make any difference
plus if they are decent packs it will save me money from the truerc one i was going to get

it says "JST-XH for balance/charge and Deans style T-connector for discharge." i have a JST XH balance adapter already but when i plug it in to charge do i only need to plug the balance connector in? and not the deans plug

also would it be a good idea to get a lipo sack considering i am new to lipo's?

rootar 07.10.2008 03:42 PM

gearing and temperature go hand in hand like this:

if the motor is too hot and esc barely warm = gear up as you are running to close to full speed all the time (which makes the motor run hotter yet is easier on the esc)

if the motor is cool and esc too hot = you have the opposite problem you are over geared which means your over taxing the controller running at too low of speed and the motor isnt even breaking a sweat.

for optimal gearing it all depends on how your driving and such but i like to equal out on motor and controller both in the 135-140 range on these 96+ degrees summer days.

if both are running too hot (over 160) then your prolly under powered or something else could be wrong

rcsammy 07.10.2008 04:01 PM

ahh ok, that makes sence. i always thought that the motor ran cool on lower gearing because its not working as hard to move the car and that it ran hotter on higher gearing because its having to work more

unfortunatly the heatsink clamp is out of stock at the moment but im hoping it will be back by the time the zippy lipo's come back in stock

also have you got a link to a feigao 9L
i might buy it anyway but that one on hobbycity just seems too cheap, has anyone actualy ran that exact motor?

azjc 07.10.2008 05:08 PM

if you buy Zippys buy the R cells they are the only packs that have Korean cells I just recieved a 6s pack I have yet to run

http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...Ah_21-35C_3S1P

rcsammy 07.10.2008 06:33 PM

ok, they are only 4150mah though whereas the H packs were 5000
...but they are instock
