Thats actually pretty pricy, unless its ddr3, which I doubt. Sorry to break the news to you.

Yeah...from Newegg a pair of 1GB sticks in Dual Channel is about 45 bucks (those are how much the ones I have are). And I paid over 100 for those a year and a half ago...how technology moves...

BP-Revo 09.01.2008 10:34 PM

Oh I see. Yes, 184 pin is different. That's about right. If it was 240 Pin then it would have been a lot.

Pc Info

Well I guess I am like some of the other guys on here. We have 7 PC's in our household right now. 4 of them are laptops (2=Dells, 1=HP dv1000, & a Dell mini laptop, two of the desktops are Dell, and Compaq, but the main PC is one that I built from scratch three years ago. At this point none of them are all that special considering how technology keeps moving forward, and in fact we are thinking about purchasing one of the new Mac computers with the PC built right into the huge 30" screen. We can get them tax free at the PX at relatively good market prices loaded up with software. It seems that no matter what you buy today it will be outdated in less than 6 months, and resale values are never worth the trouble of selling them. We have donated like 5 PC's in the last 4 years to charitable organizations. I can do all of the A+ stuff just fine, but the programming gets a little complicated and tetious for me. I am getting to the point now, that I just want to purchase the newest top of the line PC ready to play with.

I just assumed it was 240 pin

I just bought 2x2GB of DDR2 1066 for 104. Pretty good deal I thought.

jayjay283 09.01.2008 11:09 PM

I cant believe that GB of DDR is $16, I was a VAR (value added reseller) for HP, Cisco, Compaq etc basically all the companys that distribute through Ingram Micro etc. around 1998-2003, A GB of ram was $1200 and would only fit in a server. Im 36 and feel retardedly old these days and far behind the times LOL. $16 for a gigabyte wtf. I had 768mb in my 800mhz PC and it was more than the office server, I was king !

When I was 18, I assembled computers for Apple. The running joke was that the brand new computers we were assembling were already outdated.

Exactly.

That is exactly my point. All though it kind of pisses us off as things advance past what we have just purchased for top dollar it is nice to see just how far we have come in the last 10 to 20 years. Remember the original car phones? That was the coolest thing that we had ever seen at that time, and now that is such a joke. My kids were asking me about televisions when we were kids in the 60's and they flipped when I told them that there were no remotes yet. My 12 yr old asked how in the world did we change the chanel then:rofl:. They are so happy to be kids in this day in age and not back then. One of my sadest fears is not getting to see some of the truly ingenious inventions coming in the next 50 to 100 years down the line:eyes:. It is kind of funny when you compare the predictions of people back 50 years ago or more, and a lot of the stuff that they could imagine is now part of our every day lives.

Do the lights dim when you turn that on?

I'm rockin out a watercooled AMD X2 4400 box clocked at 2.9ghz. She'll do more, but I don't need to push it.

Also have m1330 dell xps, a small fujitsu lifebook tablet that the girl child uses, and my server downstairs which is a quad 550 xeon with 1GB ram and 9 18.2GB u160 SCSI drives in raid 5. There's a few other pc's laying around here, but these are the ones that are in regular use.

I'm in IT, so parts seem to pile up around here, lol. If anyone needs computer help anytime, feel free to shoot me a PM and i'll try to lend a hand.

 Does make the electric bill a tad higher. I also have neons in it so that is why the 1000w PSU was needed. Other wise with just the hardware i could use around 800w. It is a very powerful machine and have yet to really put a load on it. Even high end games like Crysis barely phase this rig. More power than i need for sure but, hey you can never have to much power
