The e-revo tires are pretty much the same size, I would def try the 17t pinion. 1-2" grass still puts a good load on everything. Best time for running in grass is in the spring when it's still matted down from the snow. What are you wondering about the stock setup?

rawfuls 11.04.2008 01:16 AM

I live in CA, so I have no snow here -.-

What I mean is when I drive in grass, it's usually to get from one driveway, to the next, and to the door, which is definitely less then 20 ft.

What is the stock gear ratio? I also have overdrive gearing from KD.

E-Revonut 11.04.2008 01:36 AM

Not sure what the stock pinion size is or what the overdrive is exactly. I used BrianG's speed calculator for those figures. Is the overdrive a selectable feature? 20' in the grass isn't a big deal.

Does the 9l have a 1/8 shaft or 5mm?

Should be a decent setup, gear for 35mph or so and the 9l should be fine. A heatsink is mandatory, and some cooling holes in the body won't hurt either. I hate fans, but you may need one, depending on outside temps. It is getting closer to winter so that may not be an issue till summer...

9L is available with both, definitely go for the 5mm though.

Mike's heatsink clamp is a very good upgrade for it. It'll help hold the motor together through all the rough stuff and help with cooling.

rawfuls 11.04.2008 02:31 AM

overdrive = Different gearing setup.

2" in grass ain't no big dear right? :P

Yeah, I'm just using this 9L until it dies, and getting me a Medusa, or maybe just selling the 9L right away if it just isn't enough speed.
Also, will I be installing my stock motor plate?

I know it is available with either shaft. My question was directed to rawfuls and his specific motor. He asked if stock gearing would be useable. Not sure if he checked to see what shaft the 9l has. The stock e-sav pinions are 32p and 1/8 bore.

The clamp is a good idea as the endbells tend to come off...

rawfuls 11.04.2008 11:14 AM

Apparently it's a 3mm shaft..... =/

E-fanatic 11.04.2008 11:52 AM

my 9l had the smaller shaft so I could use the stock pinions(my 10L had the 5mm). I didnt have an issue with it. Now if you are going to go to bigger wheels and putting alot of aluminum on the truck I would say you will need a 5mm shaft.

Should I be using the stock ESavage Motor Mount?

E-Revonut 11.05.2008 12:46 AM

I would guess that it should do just fine

hemiblas 11.05.2008 08:52 AM

I would use the novak heatsink. Its about 13 bucks and does wonders for temps. In winter I havent seen the feigaos heat up but the smooth can design just doesnt do a good job of disapating heat. . Generally running any vehicle in temps over 100 degrees is just not a good idea, but anything under that and I have been ok with my feigaos. I dont know if the RCM clamp will work as there is no extra space in front or behind the motor if you are going to run a 9L.

You betcha! :lol::intello::yes::yipi::whistle::party::mdr::na:

I was waiting until you would come in :D

Should I be using the stock esavvy mount? And what gear ratio did you use?

eXraycer 12.18.2008 01:00 AM

Hi, need ideas on how to improve the strength of the e-savage drive train before I go stuffing more power into it. The telescopic driveshafts snap with stock motors. How do you guys fix that? I'd like mine to go a bit faster but the weakness of those driveshafts is a prob. I have seen some canadian company doing custom CVD's but that's a real expensive upgrade. Any cheaper solutions out there?
