for all of those who didn't see yet, I posted an update to the blog last night. Today me and ben will continue on mocking up how we will mount the motor, as well as reinforcing the plastic chassis around the motor compartment. One thing that is stalling our progress are the wheels. we definitely need new wheels, but it is rather hard to find them. If anybody knows where to buy some, or even donate to us (please! you will get something put on the jeep!) please post! we need 4 fairly light wheels, around 15" total diamater including the tires, and two of them must have a keyed hub or something similar to that so that we can have them driven. For the hub diamater, we would prefer either 3/8" or 3/4".

Any help is greatly appreciated!

UPDATE: IT LIVES! It just went out for it's maiden voyage today! we ran it for about 5 minutes or so, then the mass of zipties broke and the chain popped off the sprocket. The setup is as follows:

NeuEnergy 4s 5000mAh 25c sending power to 2 speed controllers, and the headlights. The headlights has 2 switches in parallel. A dashboard switch, and a momentary switch actuated by a servo in 3rd channel. This lets the headlights be turned on remotely or by a manual switch. The speed controllers are a IFI Victor 883 30v brushed controller, powering a 540watt razor scooter motor I found at a garage sale. This motor is in a custom mount welded/fabricated by ben (brushlessboy16) and is driving the solid rear axle by 25 chain. The steering is using the stock drive motor and transmission, powered by a Victor 884 speed controller. The outdrive of the 147:1 transmission has a ton of torque for steering power, and has a piece of allthread on it, for steering. Since I do not have what i need to make it auto centering and limited steering, We just ziptied it to the steering bar, so if me or ben were to oversteer, it would snap the zipties and not break anything else.

for wheels, in the rear we have 13.5"x4" pneumatic wheels from tractor supply, and the fronts have 13.5"x1.5" There is only 1 pic and video of tonight, as we do have finals tomorrow... but stay tuned for more!

The final setup will have a vex robot controller in it. I will have my DSM Rx plug into the controller, and the controller will interpret the signals, and give me throttle and lights exactly as i had it, but also let me code for an auto-returning steering control, just like an actual RC will have, but with a powerful motor in there with a 10K ohm potentiometer on the output. I wrote up a version one of the code, that I will test once I get the controller.

that and the lack of money sucks. if someone would want to donate a few meters of red and black hobbycity wire, we would be quite gracious.
