14 cells would work great. could probably step up in gearing. I wonder if you may be pushing it harder than you think to. hacker says 18cells for there 8xl.
|
I was thinking I might switch to 18 cells. I ran it for a bit on 14 cells and it was a dog compared to 20 cells. I also started hearing clicking from the rear diff. Took it apart....diff done.....brand new Ofna 1/8 buggy diff. LOL That's power. So I just ordered an 8 spyder from UE to replace it. If that goes then I'll get a Ford 9"!!!

Hey, Sluggie that's a killer clean MT! :004: I am building basicly the same truck I did opt for the FLM ext. chassis and the gorillamaxx 1 speed trans :027: All my other parts are the exact same. I hope I have the same results as you. Just think how insane it will run on lipo's or linm's:037: I guess a good place to start my gearing will be16/51 and be prepared for killer speed:043:

LOL!
are you sure you had the diffs shimmed properly and you tightened the ring-gear tight? |
I have never tore out a diff of the buggy in my maxx. I have stripped the teeth off a mod 1 gear to. had a few blast with 26 cells when the truck got going right. I agree with serum. Are you sure you got every right in the diff. What housing where you running?
|
I didn't build the diff. I got it from Mike already assembled. (Ofna 1/8 6 spyder diff) It felt shimed right before I put it in. I did notice when I pulled it apart to check what went bad that there was grease in the spyder gears instead of oil. I never tried to put oil in it since I could feel there was drag inside from lube. (assumed it was oil) That must be what caused it to fail. There was nothing wrong with the ring and pinion. But I'm not sure that the Ofna diff would put up with the abuse I was running through it if it had oil in it anyway. I'm actually starting to wonder if other people are getting the same results with a similar setup as mine. My truck is compleatly uncontrolable above 1/2 throtle. when rolling about 15-20 mph if I gun it it will flip OVER the wheelie bar! I think I'm gonna switch to 18 cells just to take some of the bite out of it and keep things cooler. Do you think the batteries are what is making the difference with making it so damn powerful? I use Ib4200s charged at 4A. I can't imagine if a Lipo can actually make more power than this, how would you put it to the ground?
I ordered the gorrilla aluminum chassis from Mike last night. I got sick of my truck flipping every time I try to turn. I have the suspension set as low as I dare with the springs set very stiff. I think the lower cg should help a bunch. Plus the truck looks unfinished with the stock chassis. I figured I pulled it all apart to do the diffs so I might as well swap the chassis. |
I have ran the 20 cells ib 3800 with a lehner 1950 8t. I have simaliar problems on the flip over with the gorilla extended chassis. I have ran the ue 6 spyders on a 2250 and 26 cells which make the xl cans look weak.

hey sluggie24 do you have any video of this thing?
|
I didn't take video yet. I have the truck all torn down now waiting for the new chassis and diffs that will come this week. I should have it done by this weekend so I will take some more pics and find someone to take some video for me. How do I post videos on here? Can anyone tell me?

My truck is now more like a 1/8th than a 1/10th. It is big, super powerful and handles amazingly! Most of you know from reading what I had erlier in this thread. to that list I added: UE servo saver, Gorilla Maxx extended chassis, longer UE rear center shaft, UE 8 spyder diffs, Proline 1/8th crowd pleaser body, Proline widemaxx 40 series wheels, Team Losi super king pin tires(similar to bow ties but taller). The dimensions of the truck are now 20" long(not counting wheelie bar), 17" wide, 9" high(with the suspension slamed low for handling, tires are 6 1/2" high. Because of the taller tire I now run in 1st gear most of the time and only shift to second for a high speed run on an open area since it tops out around 60mph(probably a bit above). The uncontrolable wheelies are gone but I need a longer wheelie bar as I can still flip it if I'm not easy on the trigger on the street. The chassis and wheels and tires allow me to now take good turns at around 30 mph where I used to just flip. The UE diffs still seem like brand new after more runs than my Ofna diffs put up with. After running about 7 mins at work today, showing off, I temped everything with my ir gun. Motor = 115 F, esc = 98 F, batts = 95 F. The new body allows good airflow over everything and I know that's helping keep everything nice and cool. When I took it to the LHS up the road to get an antenna mount it had a crowd around it in 2 mins. LOL well here are some pics. Let me know what you think.

Looking good Sluggie. I've got that exact body you've got, and in the exact same colour - I posted som pics of it somewhere around here. Those tires are seriously huge! I they very heavy?
