i came across this vid a couple weeks ago on youtube. i had no idea it was the new redcat. i hope redcat makes some improvements from this version. like i said before though, i think the 6s could work with the new castle 1717 motor if the buggy is light enough. keep us posted on new developments.

I just exchanged a couple emails with "Mike" at RedCatRacing and he says they are 6 months out yet and a roller is a slim possibility.

Last I heard the new gas versions would be out in September. This brushless version may not even make it to the states, due to cost.

The attitude I got from the RedCat Rep I'd say they'll be here for sure. I'm willing to bet the demand would be high enough, I'd surely buy one!?
A giant "1/8th scale type" 1/5 Buggy would totally Rock !

I sure hope so! Theres a lot of interest in it over on www.redcatrampageforum.com. I really do hope they bring in the electric version, the main cost reason I mentioned is that it uses 2- batteries. Given Redcats trend of supplying the lipos and chargers for most of the brushless stuff, it might be a little pricey. Hopefully, they just decide to drop the lipos and chargers. Considering most of us interested in it, already have those.

I don't see why everyone is limited to the discretion of Redcat Racing. Wonder who they buy the product from and if someone else wouldn't just import the same model under a different brand name.

Obeast44 06.19.2010 02:14 AM

Well for one reason, spare parts. If they dont carry it, itll make it hard to get parts.

killajb 06.19.2010 02:17 AM

Same point source I'd like to believe for spares. Like the king motors baja, what would stop the OEM from selling to a different distributor?

Obeast44 06.19.2010 02:39 AM

You cant go directly to HSP and buy just one buggy, then order a part here and there from them. They wont even respond to a request for just one. They have distributors for a reason.
I dont know of any HSP distributors in the US other than Redcat. And theres no way im paying/waiting for parts shipped from overseas :D

Chadworkz 06.19.2010 03:00 AM

Wow, I am extremely impressed with that electric version! He was beating the ever living shit out of that thing and it just took it...not a single broken part or break-down, that's awesome! I would/will definitely buy one of these...very impressive!

killajb 06.19.2010 08:36 AM

(Obeast). I doubt that the OEM would sell just one to someone overseas myself. But I another distributor decided to pony up the cost for a load of them as Redcat would normally do, then we'd have something. I'm sure Rovan and King Motors are VERY similar, to what extent I can't say. But I assume two different distributors decided on buying what is very likely to be the same product and sell under different brand names.

Obeast44 06.19.2010 09:52 AM

Ya I agree completely, the question is, who?
Im fairly certain we will see both versions here in the states. Ive been a fan of Redcat ever since I purchased my first Rampage. Yes I know they need some work out of the box, but they can be made into some very nice machines. Darin@ Redcat and Rob@Rampagehopups have always been very good to me, and I would prefer to support them if possible.
I decided to try out 1/10 on road. Instead of buying a Redcat I jumped the gun and bought an Ofna JL-10e w/a MMP 5700kv combo. Then after buying pinions, a steering servo, an extra RX, a 3s 5k mah lipo and a body im into it for just over $450. My friend, after hearing me preach Redcat buys the Lightning EPX Pro for $159 shipped RTR. He chucks the nimh battery and buys a 3s lipo, so hes sittin at $200 rtr. After a few runs I begin to notice something. His runs cooler, is just as fast both in speed and acceleration, and hasnt gotten leaky shocks or diffs like my Ofna. I guess I shoulda taken my own advice.

I dont know about the KM/Rovans being the same OEM. I havent really looked into it.But I do know there are several companies that buy from HSP under their own brand. Redcat just happens to be the one in the United States.

Sorry for double posting. But I felt this is worth it. I emailed Darin and Ali @ Redcat, they've given me permission to post a few pics. I hope you guys like it as much as I do.

Heres a few pics of the brushless buggy:

It doesn't look like it has a center diff! LOL I like it though. A 1/5th scale truggy would be stupid great!

This is a huge quarter for big scale RC. Its here.

Ryu James 06.19.2010 01:30 PM

dude, that thing is lookin pretty gnarly. that motor looks pretty beefy too. i wonder what motor that is? if they are going to build it like a 1/8 buggy though i wish they would put mech brakes on the center diff mount like a 1/8 and leave them on for the brushless version too. having esc braking on a 1/5 is hard to come by. even is the esc is capable i still would prefer the mech brakes. but the kit is looking pretty sick aside from that. will definitely be buying one when they come out.
