custom chassis...wheelbase? 348mm, same as Revo 3.3?
I am designing my chassis right now, and am wondering what you huys think of the emaxx at 348mm wheelbase. The stock is 305mm, this is too short (obviously) for the amount of power om putting through the truck. It will take more power when longer, correct?
Do you think 348mm is slightly too long? I could make it the same as the extended GMaxx chassis which is little over 30mm longer. What do you guys think? 348mm, or 335mm wheelbase? I want to know as many opinions as possible. |
I think the gmaxx chassis extended will be almost 348mm.

It's not that it takes more power when it's longer. consider the input i gave you on using a centerdiff;
Some truggy-racers actually make their truggies shorter, to turn on a dime. I put these two topics together, to keep it more clear. |
Indirectly it 'could' take more power because you are keeping to front tires down more easily thus being able to accelerate faster... wouldn't this be the case.

I guess i have to use 6061-T6, 7075-T6 is 3 times the cost of 6061. Oh well, still will be super strong.
I will be posting up a blue print some time to get some comments on critical areas. |

It's a really bad pic i know, try the word doc, it's 1 MP.
This is the third revision upper chassis sketch, just thought I'd post it up before i put it on CAD. The left side is the front, and right is rear. the brace is made from 6mm thick 6061-T6 alum, it will be milled to varying widths as you can see. My truck in the end, will weight roughly 180 grams lighter than stock e-maxx truck.... with almost 5 times the power. :027: |

if you want to post a picture; [ img ] www . domain . com / pics / pic001 . jpg [ /img ] I would loose the square angles, it's a PITA for cleaning and round would add a lot of strength as well. |

Yeah, i've seen it.
Well, forms and shapes are a matter of feeling; i would make a drawing and decide from there what radius to pick. (that's what i do when i am designing something from free hand) Or if you are going to have it machined by a router/mill keep the radius of the bit in mind. If you are interested, i can help you out drawing it, but i need more dimensions. It's easier to design a truck from shred than to measure excisting parts. It took me about 7 hours before i had all the dimensions of my savage. But from there it's like a walk thru the park, if everything falls in place and fits perfectly in the assembly, the sun is shining on your walk.. :p |
K, well i am still waiting for some more parts from Mike, like gmaxx skids and extended center cvd's. Then i can get the exact dimensions of the 'upper connecting plates' where the chassis brace connects to top of bulkheads; and the center cvd's to get a good length for center spur shaft...
Just a note, the motor mount/spur mount will reinforce the braces, and add rigidity laterally. I will also be using 4 screws to mount 7XL, the new 540C versions have two screw right close to each other, so i thought i would use both... You are so right, it's all about feeling, I see the 'forces' and 'stresses' in my mind and just imagine them traveling down the material. Math is useful, but limited. Unless anyone has the exact measurements, and angles of the screw centers from the chassis brace screws to the top bulkhead screw centers? by any chance? :032: Otherwise I have to wait for the skids, about end of the week... I know as a fact that you can't really see what it will look like, i will post a better pic of it soon. an actual drawing... |

What you need to do is this; draw the bulkheads of a maxx, from there you can calculate/see all the sizes you need. I do this with solid modeling software, and it's the best way to do so. |
