Mike really should start a new section in the store with the motor mounts he's done. That way, people know what is already available. At the rate that he's aming different mounts, he's going to have to start hiring staff to run the store! :)

Hi guys,

Thanks for the comments. Just came back from the test run. Ambient temperature is around 30 deg C

I have gathered some data:

1) Ambient temperature = approximately 30 Deg C
2) Max. Amp. = 89.7A
3) Max temp. on the esc = 48 Deg C
4) Motor temp. = approx 61 Deg C
5) Battery temp. = 45 Deg C
6) Battery usage b4 LVC kicked in = 2600mah
7) Run time (running, not idling over on it's lid) = approx 13 minutes

Configuration :

1) 8XL
2) 13/46 gearing
3) 5S 3200mah Kokam cells
4) BK 12020 esc
5) sacker pro buggy

Problems encountered :

1) Loose mesh after about 10minutes into the 26 minute session. Retightened & continued
2) Puffed 3S pack eventhough LVC was used. Maybe overdischarged (20C raing is only 64A but saw 89A !):036:

Conclusion :

I think this is a good test finally laying to rest on the problems encountered by my BL system in this warm & humid place. I need to get better battery but that would in turn increase the weight of the buggy. :027:

Question for the expert :

When fully loaded, the buggy is close to 4.1kg while its nitro equivalent is only 3.7kg. I am having problem with the handling of the buggy at the moment. It would bottom out eventhough I am already on heavier springs. Do I need to change the viscocity of the shock oil to something heavier compared to the nitro buggy. The nitro buggy is using 30wt oil. Can I use 45wt. oil in the e-buggy to eliminate the bottoming out problem ?

Regards,
Joe Ling

PS : the eagletree data recorder was connected to the 2S side only. Not sure why it showed a max of 12.5V for the battery pack though but not shown anywhere in the graph

Great vid! Pretty nice track layout!

Id try s ome flightpower evo 20 3700 lipos, they rock!

The temps lok ok... that's about the hottest I have ever had a lipo get but it should not do any harm.

The buggy it kinda heavy... mine only weigh a tiny bit more than nitro, with a 6000-8000mah pack.

But since it's heavier, you do need to run a heavier oil in the shocks along with the stiffer springs. The oil damping has a lot to do with the car absorbing impact on landing. You could also swap out to a smaller piston and keep the oil the same. That tends to help bottoming out a lot.

But... all 1/8 bottom out anyway at least sometimes

That was great. Looked like you were toying with him. Good show. :D Would love to see more Nitro spanking. ;)

I love to see the raw acceleration of BL compared to Nitro, especially on the same vehicle! Only wish the video was longer. Nice video though.

As mentioned, I puffed my 3S. Luckily, my maxamps 4k cells turned up & I'm running 5S 4000mah Maxamps lipo cells at the moment. I have had 2 complete runs until the LVC cut in & each time, my ICE says I've depleted between 3960mah to 3980mah of the battery. So, looks pretty good for now.

I have measured my maxamps recently & thery were in the low 40's (41 ~ 42 deg C). I will try the more viscous oil to see if I can improve the handling a little.

Well, we're friends & just goofing around. But the comments I hear the most from my fellow bashers is that "why no sound ?". "I need to hear the scream of nitro" "no kick lah".:027: I'm beginning to think that if I keep this up, no one will want to 'race' me anymore:036:

Thanks Brian. The handling of the buggy still need to be tweaked so I cannot get a consistant round (read, my driving sucks). :005:

That is really a great idea, and should definately be recomended to him by someone. That way, it may also help someone pick their next project for themselves if they can't machine their own mount.

Yes I second that.
