That is a very nice tranny! The crawler guys will love it! I'm still not too crazy about the motor mounted on plastic. |
Skellyo, I'm not quite sure what you are getting at, but you seem to be misreading my posts.
The Novak comment was bc that motor looks just like a Velocity series motor, from the solder tabs to case design to other features. IE, it seems they are the supplier of the Novak motors built to Novak's spec. Not the other way around. Novak doesn't manufacture motors themselves that I know off, so would subcontract it out, and it looks to be GM based on your link. I always thought the velocity motors were high quality, just the ESC I was not a fan of and sold it off. Castle does not manu their motors either, that's why you see them talking about searching for diff motors that can meet their spec. They even talked to Neu at some point, but abandoned the idea due to cost. Otherwise, I didn't suggest this for MTs. Quite the contrary. However I was saying, if it was announced that someone would be releasing a 200A BL car ESC this week (first manstream ever produced!), what would have been the Vegas odds that it was TRX? No one saw this one coming... Overall its a great development for the elec hobby and will only push BL more mainstream and force more competitive and capable controllers. Yeah for everyone. |
All I was replying about was that you referred to it (the GM 5.5) as a Novak 5.5. It's possible they OEM them for Novak, but since they've been out less time than the Novak, I doubt it.
And I totally agree that I would not have thought Traxxas would have manufactured such an ESC. Heck, no one would have thought they'd find another way to squeeze life out of the old rusty/pede/bandit platforms yet again. |

One of these new brushless VXL stampedes is exactly what I needed a year ago. Now all I need is that tranny. Just look at that trans. That exactly what we've been needing for the pedes and rusties. Wonder if they are using hardened steel planet gears in the diff now.
|
Yup, if you read about the differential, it says it has a steel gear ring with hardened steel planetary diff gears.
I am still in denial that TRX came out with a BL setup, especially a decent ESC, remembering all my experiences with the XL-1...:007: The only question for me is: Should I just buy the diff and the BL system, or should I sell my current Rustler and get a whole new one...? Brijar!!! |
Yep, I'll be using some of their gearing in my Rusty project, tranny and diff. I do share Dafni's concern about the plastic motor mount though, so I'll be sticking with the planned FLM tranny housing. I'm hoping they release the parts as soon as they release the RTR models, sooner would be nice too.

Hey - Traxxas...Brushless...70mph...RTR...sounds good to me!
Too bad my Rustler would still whoop them. :027: |

Are you working at novak? if yes; what is it that you do? |
