can you give a direct link to their 6mm pinions, i cant navigate their site well.
|
Can't seem to get a link for you. Go here: https://sdp-si.com/eStore/ and select "metric unit" at the top, right below the part search box. Below that there is a list of items, click on "gears", then "spur gears", then "metal". The list on the right will open with all of the gears, select mod "1", then go over to bore size and select "6mm", then go back to hub style and selct 'with hub and setscrew". Pretty easy site to navigate once you make sure and check "inch" or "metric" before you try to search.

thanks, is 32p=to .8 mod in metric?
it doesn't look like they have one for the maxx 32p gears. what should i do, i already just bought a rrp slipper/spur set. didn't i read somewhere that you can use mgt spur to get mod 1 pitch? i'd like to keep my new slipper if possible. i would just buy some 5mm bores from mike, but he's out of stock on most sizes. |
32p is close to mod .8

Yeah, 32p is exactly 0.79375 - pretty darn close IMO. I use 32p pinions with mod 0.8 spurs on my Jato and it has run forever just fine.

so how is the motor?
|
Still working on the Aftershock. I bench tested the motor with a 125b and 5s and it worked fine, smooth and quiet. Should have the conversion done in a few weeks. Got sidetracked and decided to build a full tilt maxx truggy with a bomp-proof chassis, 1/8 diffs, rpm everything, aveox/quark on 5s, etc.
|
okay, just wondering because it looks like a good alternative to a feigao.

My kb-45 10XL has pretty much been sitting around since I got it. Still trying to figure out how to turn the shaft down to 5mm... I tried using a rubber strap wrench (apparently called grip wrench) and a plate that mounts to all four screw holes on the motor to see if I could unscrew the front endbell. I heard from a guy that it would be easy to do, but I couldn't get the endbell to unscrew (if I had forced it much harder the grip wrench probably would have snapped).
Then I soldered the motor up to my HV-110 that will run it, and plugged everything in including 10s2p A123. Revved it a bit. Now I'm thinking of just taking a file to the shaft. That is, unless anybody has any better ideas... |
What size pinion do you need metalman? I just bought the ones from sdp-si, they are nice, but only useable with a plastic spur. The file method will work, I have doe it myself. i was thinking that a grinding stone would be better than a file. Like one you would use in an angle grinder. Just hold it against the shaft and keep the motor rpm down. The file has to be held just right to keep the shaft even.

I need 14t and 20t. However, it needs to be hardened since it will mesh with a steel spur. I already have a Robinson/Mega 5mm bore 20t hardened pinion.
The Savage doesn't like plastic spurs... With a Feigao 12XL geared 20/46 on 10s2p A123 (overgeared, I know), plastic spurs would last maybe 10mins doing speed runs because they would literally melt (not strip). |
Well I guess that you will be turning that shaft down. That is most likely easier than drilling out a hardened pinion.
|
At least you have the same thought on the matter :). Now, to find time to try turning the shaft...
|
Maybe a long skinny piece of sand paper looped around the shaft? You could use coarse stuff to start, and finish off with a finer grit to make it nice and smooth.
