That is what i took off. I wanted a longer run time. I think i messed up. You have to live and learn some how. It cost some time. I like to have a really powerful motor that can run a long time. I don't worry so much about speed as i do power. I like the 7 xl. But wanted to see if i could improve. I thought the motor would be bigger too.

What does it mean when you turn the cooper wire black inside the motor?

RC-Monster Mike 07.08.2005 10:16 PM

Gear down the 7xl and you will get a longer runtime. For the most part, the only way to get more power or runtime or both (of any significance) is by adding power (cells).

coolhandcountry 07.08.2005 10:16 PM

If you go up in cell count do you have to change gearing for that to.

RC-Monster Mike 07.08.2005 10:18 PM

Typically, as you add cells, you want to drop the gearing or you will only draw more amps(basic electric theory). Short answer- yes.

coolhandcountry 07.08.2005 10:20 PM

Now that is something i had no idea about. That would explain a lot.

Black windings means you burnt the motor windings up(must have missed that post). It must have been scorching hot!

I going to go back to 7 xl and go from there. I need to get me some smaller pinions now. Any suggestion on gearing for truck.

coolhandcountry 07.08.2005 10:39 PM

What about if I go to a 10 or 9 XL.

RC-Monster Mike 07.08.2005 10:43 PM

Assuming ytou have stock sized tires and diffs, I would start with around 15/70. This puts your speed in the mid 30s, but should give you a nice runtime and killer torque.

coolhandcountry 07.08.2005 10:50 PM

I was running a little taller than stock. Running the 40 series dirt hawg. I have some light weight tires I may run. I have the standard diffs with aluminum diff cups robinson gears.

RC-Monster Mike 07.08.2005 10:53 PM

15/70 should still be alright. 14/70 would drop the speed a touch and increase the runtime a touch.

coolhandcountry 07.08.2005 10:54 PM

Thanks Mike. You have made me see alot of things i did wrong. I have to get me some smaller pinions or lose some serious weight.

RC-Monster Mike 07.09.2005 08:54 AM

Yeah, your truck is almost twice as heavy as my race truck!

coolhandcountry 07.09.2005 12:19 PM

The scale I used may not be totally accurate. It should be in the ball park though. I know if i switch tires and wheels i can loose some. The batts are heavy. They add some serious weight to truck. I don't race so I can't see expense of lipos.
