I think I hit the sweet-spot gearing wise. It's got just enough speed, and the temps are really low, though it was 40-50 degrees outside. The ESC would probably be 30 degrees hotter if it was 80 but that's still not too hot. As far as rpm it seems to be running well, it spools up fast and hits top speed quickly and doesn't seem to be very bogged down even in the grass. :mdr:
It was able to do wheelies on my very first run when I had the slipper really tight, even up to 5 mph rolling wheelies. I loosened the slipper for the run caught on tape, but it was a little too loose and would slip alot under acceleration. My next video I will try to get some wheelies and maybe a little off-road action.

Ahhh ok. You had the slipper set to slip. Who would've thought??

I think if/when you upgrade the motor you'll be back to full tension on the slipper, but it will slip anyways. Some guys with lighter ST's like myself could get away with not having a slipper since the tires would just spin, not putting much stress on driveline components. But once you're into the 8+ pounds range with 5" tires it becomes more of a necessity.

Was gonna start filming clips for the next movie when what do you know?! It snowed about 4 inches! Straight from 60 degrees one day to 15 the next and 4 inches of snow.

So water proofing was necessary. I just wrapped the servo and receiver in plastic wrap and made a little dome of plastic wrap over the ESC and motor that went over the roll bar.

After that, filming proceeded as awesome. Snow Ruts show off the Revo's fast-reacting suspension really well (definitely gonna do some slo-mo) and the 'ol pond was frozen over with 3 inches of ice, making for some good drift action. I was actually able to get up to full speed on the ice before having to initiate a high-speed drift so as not to slide out of the pond. One more run and I should have enough clips for a short little movie.

On another note: still looking for another Revo roller.

Ice drifting... I saw a few vids of clods doing that once and it was hilarious- I think a revo should handle it a bit better however...

Timmy - If you want a 8XL for cheap, ask Dirt101 if he still has his. He might hook you up! =)

Still putting together snow vid of the first REVO, it's gonna be pretty good, trust me.

We actually put in a Velineon system in it and geared up to 18/46 from the 12/46, and it was running good; I punched to full throttle down the icy road it roared to a pretty impressive speed that was quite a bit faster than the Mamba 4600 on the same battery. Only problem was right after that my 76 amp 3s battery could NOT take it and dropped below 9v setting off the Low-voltage on the VXL ESC putting into 50% mode. Reset it, tried another speed run, but almost everytime I got up to full throttle it would cut-off. I manged to get a full-throttle down-hill speed run without it cutting out. The Velineon could have been pulling 100 amps or more, so either better battery or gearing down, temps were still good.

But more importantly another roller revo was had but this time without a transmission or Rc monster mount. A E-maxx transmission will most likely be loaded on to it, but the new E-maxx transmission looks like it would be worth waiting for. Too bad it has a 2.5 chassis, good thing was it was had for only $110 shipped.

Pics of the 3.3 with the Velineon and the new revo:

Got the Revo 3.3 video done with all the snow driving. It turned out pretty well. Put alot of hours into it. It's got exactly one wheelie in it, I found a nice patch of cement that wasn't covered in ice or snow so as to get some wheelie traction. And yep, put in the Velineon, and it was sweet. Take a look:

Very slick video, I really like how you synced the action and the music. Looks like a good preformer with the velineon motor.

The velineon motor does do rarther well, all things concidered.

I have a new idea for a set-up for the Revo 3.3. how about this ESC: https://www.unitedhobbies.com/UNITED...idProduct=4691 with my 6s 3800mah 20c pack on a 12XL? I've seen one other person running this ESC and it seems to be good bang for the buck. Anyone think this a good idea?

lincpimp 02.03.2008 07:44 PM

Sounds like a good setup to me, give it a try and let us know. Metalman has used that esc, as have others on here. I think akqut has too.

only thing i am worried about would be weight distribution. the apogee limn 3800 6s weighs in at 678g or 1lb 7.9oz. it seems like you would need stiffer springs on the right side, because thats where the battery would go.

thorbinator 02.04.2008 09:36 PM

arg, I was eyeing that revo on ebay also. Oh well, have fun with it, I will keep looking.

It's 2 different 3s packs and they are so tall and round that they cannot be stacked on the right side. So I was going to put the other one just in front of the transmission on top of the servo. An XL with heatsink is what, like 14 oz? The battery on the opposite side is 12 oz. so putting the other battery in the middle or slightly to the right should be fine. This might make it a little front-heavy but an XL motor might balance this out a bit.

Happened bring my camera along for my bash in the himalayas!
