Got the truck yesterday and started building it. This thing has a ton of hop ups already included!
|
that's the idea of HPI behind the SS versions.. ;)
Do you like it so far? Has it got a 6 spider diff? |
No, there's actually only two BIG spider gears in the diffs.
The entire drivetrain is steel so this thing is going to be STRONG! Here's some pics: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...2/DSC02255.jpg Ooooo...all those goodies already included! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...2/DSC02256.jpg Finished building it this afternoon: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...2/DSC02258.jpg Notice the lack of engine and fuel tank? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...2/DSC02260.jpg That's cause this thing is going brushless! Plenty of space for the motor, speed control will go in the radio box, but where does the battery go? My only guess right now is make a six/eight cell pack with three/four cells stacked up on top of each other: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...2/DSC02261.jpg |
hard to tell where to place the batteries.
I need to see one in person to get an idea. My suggetion is to skip the radiobox. It hasn't got a one way right? you are still going to use the mechanical brake? you could drop a servo, and save some space by loosing the brake servo.. |
I too would say to remove the radio box. It takes up (valuable?) space and adds weight.
No one-way on here. Removing the mechanical brake and using the motor's brake would be ideal. |
Hey camel. If you have a radio with an epa setting and a third channel w/mixingyou could set throttle to 0% and third channel 0% foreward and adjust brakes on the servo as needed
|
And I would get rid of the mechanical brake. Saves alot of weight, and with such a light truck the BL brake should be enough. Heck, it's also good on a bigger truck. I can flip all my trucks over on grippy surfaces.
True, mech. brakes would remove a bit of stress from the BL, but I think it's not worth the trouble and weight. BTW, congrats on your new RC! Have fun Camel |
I would really like to keep the radio tray as well as the disk brake.
Made a motor mount today: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...2/DSC02272.jpg As for battery placement... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...2/DSC02270.jpg |
Finished painting the body tonight. Decided to do a black/white design with the Pillar bird on the hood:

Can't wait to here and see the final results of this truck. I have an old mt racer that has been begging for a conversion for years! It may end up being turned into a small electric revo, though! Depends on project time this winter!
|
Oooo, is it possible? Turning a MT racer into a 1/10 Revo? Good luck, Mike!
I put my T3 crowd pleazer body on this jut to see what it looked like and it looked a little like a baby Revo or MGT. I'll have to get a picture of it. |
Well, it's running! I put the 10x2 Revolution in it and it hauls. It may have a ballistic top speed, but not a lot of torque because it's overgeared.
Here's some pics: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...2/DSC02292.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...2/DSC02293.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...2/DSC02294.jpg And just for the heck of it, I put a T3 crowd pleazer body on it and suprisingly looks pretty cool, a little like a baby revo: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...2/DSC02276.jpg |
Nice truck Camel. I'm working on a jato and will probably use a similarmotor at first, brushless later
|
NIce! The 18ss looks like a great truck to convert.I like the sound of the cvds on these as well.Apparently they have a sleeve/collar holding the pin in instead of a grub screw so no checking to see if it's still tight all the time.
I would be inclined to lose the radio box and the mechanical brake though. At the moment you've got most of the weight down one side of the truck. If you ran the packs saddled either side of the rear driveshaft you'd have better balance. Also the c of g would be lower too. |
Yeah, drop the mechanical brake and the radiobox..!
