Tabletops you say??. what is the advantage of that in the RC world??. Higher jumping heights?, longer air time? or ???

Thanks..

I always use those plastic ramps. They may look small, but when you launch them at 40mph, I must say that many broken parts should be expected. I was going about 30 - 33 mph with my 1/8 buggy, off it and it flew about 38 feet (measured) and about 12 - 14 feet high.

We have a roller / we have Video!!

Good morning team,
I had the opportunity to run my GEVO for the first time today :yipi: and I also learned (kind of) how to use my Windows Movie maker .. I still haven’t figured out how to add a title, credits or sound so (SORRY).. :rules:

As for it’s first time out, I was extremely pleased with it, power, handling, ect!.

I'm running it with the Neu 1515 3ds, MGM 160amp controller and duel 3s 5400mah = 6s. Absolutely NO heat issues at all for the motor, ESC or Lipos.. Motor 95%, ESC 85%, Lipos 75% after 15 minutes of bashing. Gearing is 20/52 (apparently the old saying is true! you do get what you pay for!)..

Tomorrow I plan on using my ramps, I’ll post some shots of it airborne distance and height soon..

Thanks so much for your time and have a great day..

Shaun.

Here is the video!.. :gasp: I hope you like it..
P.S.

JERRY2KONE 05.10.2008 02:47 AM

Great

Good job TDC. So my anaysis would have to be that the truck obviously has a great deal of power and the temps sounds like you have the setup right on the money. From the video the truck has too much power. That thing would be awsome if it were just a bit longer and maybe a little bit wider wheelbase wise. I see you finally got the MGM hooked up with the right programming. What was the magic trick to accomplish that feat. Once again nice work guy, and if you find a way to get all of the power under control it will be a good contender for racing. Having fun is what counts TDC. What kind of runtime are you getting with those batteries?

Good morning Jerry2Kone!..
Thanks for the kind words Sir.. I had a "fricken blast today", it was extremely rewarding to finally have all of my hard earned $$ and time finally pay off..

As for the length, well I’m stock there it's already the longest / extended chassis i can buy, as for the wheel base your dead correct!. I did by the extended rear A-Arms from Mike, but I thought I would install them after I brake my RPM one's (If they will brake??). The Controller was sent back to MGM more than three weeks ago and came back with all updates installed, I just installed it out the package. (luckily me it finally worked!):yipi:.

As luck would have it there is brand new track opening up in Huntington Beach at the end of the month (YES!!).. I'll plan on racing it as soon as possible / my driving skills improve.. I completely agree "having fun is all that counts!!".

I've been averaging about 20 minutes out of my Venom 3s 5400, I don’t know if that par for the course, but it provides me with plenty of time for bashing / smiles and any 15 minute heat race (cant wait to smoke some Nitro guys)

Thanks for the comments..

Have a great one..

MetalMan 05.10.2008 03:26 AM

OCRC Raceway is allegedly going to have a racing class for electric 1/8 (this is an indoor 1/10 offroad track for those who are wondering). My buggy will be running in it for sure!

And, awesome truck! It is very nice to see it finally running.

Not a Good Thing!..

http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/i...7/IMG_2717.jpg

I learned a couple of key things today!
1. I need to practice on a lower ramp :oh:
2. I need to practice my in-flight control
3. It really, really hurts the truck when you lunching 30’+ long and getting 8-10’ air and you land it on the lid! (this is a BAD THING).. :gasp:

Lessen learned..

I’ll post the Video in few, so you call see it happen

Tonight I'm pulling the controller out and sticking in my G3.

http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/i...7/IMG_2718.jpg

Tomorrow I’ll be back at the park looking for redemption and learning flight control.

Have a great one..

OUCH!! That looks pretty bad. Definitely looking forward to the video though.

DRIFT_BUGGY 05.11.2008 04:40 AM

Maybe the whole 2 hours of cleaning did something to it, lol. Unlucky, hope it doesn't cost much to get it all up and going again

suicideneil 05.11.2008 08:02 AM

Ouch. Where exactly did it snap to- looks like the rear upper CF plates croaked it, and the rear lower skid came away fromt he bulks...

its me 05.11.2008 12:48 PM

this is the very thing that kept me away from building a revo truggy, never did trust the bulks to support any kind of weight from the bottom.

That sucks to see man.

Morning jnev.
We’ll I just haven’t had the opportunity to perform exploratory surgery on her just yet but initial damage report is favorable / under $100.00 ((new rear bulk, new rear top plate & a new rear sway bar kit).

OOooo the video is cool, I'm still working on it..

Hay its me!,
Nooo I look at this way
1. It was all usere error!
2. I was going 30’ and landing most of them either upside down or in a cartwheel

There is only some any truck would take with that much punishment.

P.S.
The Cool thing was I was at the park with my BOY!! He saw the whole thing and said I “Quote” That was Assume do it again!..

Yeapers

Yea I think that I am goin to have the same problems with my boys once they get into the hobby. Kids love to see things getting mangled and trashed, because they do not yet understand how much a crash like that costs $$$$ and what it takes to acquire that money. We have to teach them to keep things under control. Even pushing the limits has to have limits when your wallet is involved. Personally I like the look of the carbon fiber gear, but it is truly no match for the stronger aluminum or titanium counter parts. If you are going to continues to bash at that level you have to build for that purpose, or you are going to end up spending a lot of money on replacement parts. Your truck does have an awsome look to it, but you still have a lot of weak plastic parts on it, and with your learning curve you are going to end up spending an aweful lot of money buying more plastic parts to keep it up and running. It may take a little bit longer to build and the end weight may be heavier than you wish, but in the long run it will hold up better and you will have more time actually driving it instead of repairing it. With the level of your electronics they should have no problem pushing a little added weight in trade for a stronger vehicle. Keep up the good work. It is good for a lot of newbies to see what happens in the material choices that you make in your build.

Good morning Jerry..
Yeahh my boy is 11 and my girl is 8, they both enjoy beating my trucks (BBBOooo) :mdr:

I kinda understand your postion on the Alum vrs CF, but in my trucks defence, I beat it real hard that day and i kinda new it was going to break before i started out, hence the video oppertunity for all see a custom built truck (crack in half) :) that doesnt happen too often..:yipi::lol:

I've had my far share of alum trucks (3) to be exicat and I realy wanted to build a true half and half truck to see how it would handle, how much weight, how it tracks, etc comparpard to my "all alum past builds" and i have to say, that i would not do anything differnetly knowing what i know now..

I do need to work on my in-flight control.. hhhhaaa hhaaaaaaaa,:yes: but when ordered up my replacement parts the other night i went back to the CF.. i think under normal beatings it will be just fine.. We'll see. I hope to start racing it next month.. :yipi:

regardless it does teach the newbies.. ( I like that!!):lol:

JERRY2KONE 05.21.2008 03:10 AM

Rough.

Considering how rough you are with your driving:lol:, you know your going to brake it again:tongue:. It is a very cool truck for sure, but that carbon fiber won't last long:whistle:. No pun intended but after seeing your last wreck results you need the strength of metal in your builds:yes:. I try to think about "what if" they began to put carbon fiber chassis parts in our full size cars to replace the steel ones? Would you trust driving it:gasp:? as MC Hammer said, plastic toys were made for boys. You obviously like to push your vehicles beyond their normal limits so you need armor of some kind:lol:.

PS: no worse then the rest of us. I have stands in my R/C shop, but always catch myself holding the trucks in my lap to work on them anyway.

TDC57 05.21.2008 03:32 AM

Hay Jerry!!
Always a pleasure to hear from you!! Thanks for the laugh.. But I'm sticking with CF for now.. I still think its all drivers era! (dddooooo):lol: not the truck.. Love your comments though...

(For what it worth) I'll be beating it this weekend at my parents house, they have 110 acres in Nor-Cal (Sonoma) so I’m looking forward to driving it the same places I rode dirt bikes and horses century’s ago..

Have a great one Sir; it’s a pleasure to hear from YOU!!!

Shaun.

P.S.
Are the wife and kids back yet? Did they have a good time in So-Cal?? The weather been awesome lately I went scuba diving all last weekend it was 87 @ the beach and water was temp was 67.. (hot for So-cal)..

JERRY2KONE 05.21.2008 03:51 AM

Cool

No harm no foul Shaun. i love that truck and it looks awsome. You did a great job with your selection and construction on that project. I just hate to see guys going in one direction over and over again only to find out that there is one solution that will last a long time. I have seen some guys post up in here that don't want to spend the high dollar amounts to go metal in their chassis, but end up purchasing plastics or carbon fiber over and over again, only to end up spedning a lot more then the metal stuff would have cost just one time. I know I know, we are all entitled to go whatever way that suits our own taste, but I just love pushing the aluminum, steel, and titanium for strength. I was just talking with Hickoryhead the other day about building stuff that will be here long after I am gone, because of the materials and building techniques that I have developed over the years. I hate seeing stuff that only lasts a short time and then into the trash can it goes. Good luck with your bashing this weekend. We have a house in San Francisco. It is nice up that way, but way too expensive compaired to what you can get other places. We will be there in July.

TDC57 05.21.2008 04:08 AM

I hear you Sir ( i really do) and I do appreciate the words of wisdom!! but I’m just stubborn at my age (40) Hhaaa yes: (just a pup) :yipi:: I've spent the money and now I just need to learn how to drive it!! ( I think) hhhaaaa..

As always thanks for the comments / advise!! if it breaks again I'll start to think otherwise.. (trust me) As much fun as it building these beast, it's no fun when there down.. So I'm already thinking / preparing myself for the worst.. We'll see..

Have a great one Jerry!! I’m glad to hear everything went well with the family..

Shaun..

JERRY2KONE 05.21.2008 04:26 AM

Wow!!!

You know Shaun with the level of enthusiasam that you show in here I honestly thought you were much younger. Enjoy your 40's while they last. I will turn 50 in Feb and it is amazing how much we actually begin to change through our 40's. Still knock off that SIR crap. I only have 9 years on you. I am sure that I still have a lot left in me but the reality of aging is really starting to haunt me. My father-in-law is 96 and he still goes out nearly every day and commutes around San Francisco going about his business. I sure hope that I have that kind of spunk in me when I am in my 90's.

I am still wating on a bunch of parts comming in this week so I can continue working on my projects. I have to admit I am still a little intimidated with the electronics stuff. I have purchased some really good ESC's over the last month for really good prices, but I have not even begun to understand the programming aspect of each one. At this rate I don't think I wil have enough time to really get involved before we leave here 01/July. We pack out of here in a few weeks. So I guess it will all have to wait until we arrive in Korea in August. Anyway have a good time playing with your truck this weekend. I do look forward to hearing how it goes for you.

TDC57 05.21.2008 04:39 AM

HHHhaaaaa... that's great Jerry... I laughed out load.. Thanks I'm sorry about the Sir / Jerry that’s just my upbringing, Blame my dad!! My father / I was raised old school military style and I just call everyone Sir (regardless of age and race) We'll 40's had brought on new challenges.. JERRY2KONE 05.21.2008 05:05 AM

Hell No

Oh hell no. No blue pills here. I am turning 50 not 80. I just meant that I used to play basketball and go running all the time, but now I am happy just sitting in my easy chair or playing in the R/C room. My muscle tone is showing signs of weakening and I just connot do what I used to do. And yea I know what you mean about the Sir thing. As a retired Navy man I used Sir a lot also, and sometimes just to piss people off. My parents really pushed the Sir Ma'am thing on us growing up. My boss right now is also retired, but Army. Same rank and all, but I call him Sir every day just because he is my boss, and It pisses him off to no end, but I just keep hitting him with it. It does not really bother me, but there is no need for it in here, although I am sure it is easier than writing up everyones name or internet signature. Where are you located? Aren't you in Cali, and why are you up at this hour? It is 11AM here in Brussels so I know it is like 0230hrs in California.
