nope, price at the moment. and I figured quad would be better than a slightly higher clock on a duo chip. I'm not sure. I do alot of encoding and rendering. if I feel it's still too slow, I'll get a faster chip. the shuttle barebones comes with a motherboard, with onboard video, vga, AND dvi.. i'm already running dual monitors, so I thought that would work perfect.. but now that you ask, I realize that the onboard video might not support solidworks' "realview".. I've got an nVidia 7600gs, not sure if that works, or if I can edit the driver to make it a "quadro".
my current pc has an ATI 9800pro in it mod'd to a "FireGL X2", and it works great, but it's an agp card.

and 64bit, yes :)

The built in graphics will be ok but not up to gaming...

Rather than a Raptor (again this is the older model) it might be worth looking at some of the 750/1tb drives they actually have great transfer rates acres of storage
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148274

I was thinking I'd just use a spare ~400W psu if the included one isn't stable.
I don't need any storage, I wanted a FAST drive.. but just not scsi fast ;). my other computer's a mini server with 9 hard drives ~3.5TB.

Arct1k 08.22.2008 04:32 PM

The shuttle PSU's are pretty high quality although I think that barebones only has a 250 mine was the larger case that came with a 400.

The "better" quad is about $100 more - these chips's OC really well but the shuttles don't tend to have the best bios for it. You should be able to get a 10% clock bump though pretty easily.

For rendering I agree a quad will be better - my core 2 E6600 2.4ghz native runs fine at 3.25 on air.

I'd look for one of the newer Nvidia's always EVGA as there warrantee is as good as castle

Just got off the phone with Mike, gave me a few suggestions for the moutn portion of my system-
1. Bearing stops
2. motor mount screw countersinks

waiting for what he says about the revision, then what price he wants for them all

cadima 11.14.2008 09:57 PM

Somebody mention CAD? I'm your huckleberry then. The below pic was my first truggy conversion and is outdated in every way. The latest truggy design is beautiful but I am not allowed to show it or Mike would kill me.

Do tell....

cadima 11.14.2008 10:34 PM

based on nothing. Dreamed up from scratch to serve one purpose.....dominate the 1/8 scale. Nitro, brushless, no matter. It's made to beat what you are driving right now and I don't even know what you have. Mike will be selling them. They're not conversions of ther brands' truggies. They're his own line of tr(b)uggies. I'm guessing late spring for the entry level model. Still have work to do on the "reference" version.

brushlessboy16 11.14.2008 10:37 PM

wow.. thats awesome! any chance at a sneak peak?

cadima 11.14.2008 10:43 PM

no f'in way, sorry. Mike hates when I do that. The entry level concept was shown at the Monster Bash 2008 not long ago IIRC. Maybe someone has a pic of it to share or if you convince mike it's ok, I can slip a few renderings of the version mike had on display.

CAD is more fun when you get to see the fruit of your labor, that is...............getting the parts made in real life! :yipi: Here's a pic of the real truggy that was made from the above CAD files. Considering it was my first truggy, first 4wd, and first 1/8, I think it was sweet and still to this day when I dream of new layouts for truggies I find myself circling back to this one as a valid solution to the project objective.

if you want to see the project, there's a thread on the thing from initial CAD concept to final design. The truggy was stolen and I even got it back. Quite a trip that truggy's had.

yup, nor did I until some planets aligned. And it took forever. Definately helps to have connections!

Im open to options if your sponsor needs more help

cadima 11.14.2008 11:21 PM

I figured you were from the name. Go get an engineering degree and you can do crap like this for a living. No hurry.

And I assure you nothing is for free. My "sponsors" used plenty of my time just the same. But who's counting anyway? Right.

B4maz 11.15.2008 07:10 AM

These are CAD pics of my "X2" speed run car. I initially designed the whole car in CATIA V5 then did some tweaking in Solidworks. I started designing it in late 2005. There are a couple different iterations that the car went through before I started to fabricate.

I had initially designed it with a Lehner, then I switched to a Neu. My first design used a 1/8 scale type wheel connection then I switched to a 1/10 hub. I am still testing the X2 today.

Thanks Brushless! 89 mph as of last weekend. I keep blowing tires but I think I have solved the problem. I needed a lot more down force. Its front wheel drive. I found that I cant run the car rear wheel drive. Its impossible even with a gyro. This is what it looks like in its current form:

<table style="width:auto;"><tr><td><a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/VtiFIP3-KPK4wHi1Mo2yRw?authkey=ObxtepQ7Lmo"><img src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_3N0hwXEVK9I/SRuYhzsRGJI/AAAAAAAAD9Q/OyOAktzwZA0/s800/IMG_0484.JPG" /></a></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/nick.maslowski/FastRC?authkey=ObxtepQ7Lmo">Fast RC</a></td></tr></table>

No problem. Its designed to go around 110mph on 8s.

The KV on the 2215/3Y is 480. Assuming 3.5v per cell on 8s equals about 13,400 RPM.

brushlessboy16 11.15.2008 01:03 PM

wow, i wonder if they are made to be most efficient at higher rpms like the 15xx series, you would need either a really high Kv or lots and lots of voltage :D

that always makes for a good time

I didn't wan't to download Solidworks ( 800MB or something.. )

The google cad program isnt bad for beginers. I actually like how easy it is to work with compared to others.

brushlessboy16 12.17.2008 01:01 PM

Try and find a download for ProDesktop 8.0, great program, it's what I use.

Takedown 12.17.2008 03:56 PM

Warning! Its difficult if you havent had past CAD program experiences.

marzac2 12.17.2008 05:53 PM

I love Solidworks. It's simple to use and the most powerful program I've ever seen.

anson 12.17.2008 06:15 PM

I love solidworks too. I use it at work for printer design. I started to draw up a new chassis for my emaxx, but that project got canned when I converted a truggy.

brushlessboy16 12.17.2008 07:25 PM

I like solid works but its yah to much for my POS comp..(circa 1999)
