Re: Market

I'd be off a lot better if I always did what I meant to do. Unfort I keep trying to hang on for the last extra 10%, or wait too long to move, and I watch the wave pass by. Little making good returns, but the number of I times I would have been better to just stick to my plan rather than get greedy at the last minute.... Idiot. I've almost got the lesson drilled in, but I imagine its gonna take a few more times. ;) Limits are your friend.

Knowing what the market will do next in this economy is tough. Just look at what I did, in less then a year I went from last place with less then $500,000 to over $9,000,000. The game basically started when my friend told me he was thinking about investing. I told him about this game and he got interested and I said we would start with a million. I told him I would just be messing around and I bought some bad stocks and he bought stocks that he thought was good, but now he's in last place and not playing anymore, keep in mind I was in last place. So I told him I would start playing for real and now I'm in first place lol. So now my plan is just to hold on to what I have until the end. I'll hoping Lehman goes to $5 . I'm surprised nobody jumped on GM and when they come out of the OTC (Pink Sheets) market, it should jump much higher. We'll see what the future will hold lol.

Dammit, put in a limit order on Smith and Wesson (swhc) yesterday, just missed it, and it closed +22% today. Dammity damn damn. Good thing this is just a game. :)

Its going to be impossible to get anywhere near you. You started the game in one of the biggest rallies in market history. Can't imagine how some people in real life made out. Too bad I had/have only so much cash to put in, so many good stocks and not nearly enough money to put down on even a decent number of them (unless I was looking to own a handful of shares...)

Have you checked the Pink Sheets or the OTC market? Study some of the more reliable companies and I've seen a few go from $0.001 to almost $1 (Very risky though). It mainly comes down to a number's game, the more shares you have the more profit you'll make if the stock goes up and having a share cost low will make it more feasible to many.

With all the crap going on with some crazy countries out there, any weapon manufacturer will be doing good at this time.

I hope Dry Ships (DRYS) get it together before the game ends  and Lehman goes up lol.

I've own/owned some of them in real life, but sometimes they are such a pain in the ass. Lots of return possible, sometimes lots of risk, and some times them just sitting there for years doing jack$h!t.

Couple stocks I had it was hard to sell them as even with the small amt I owned, the volume was so low I either had a big impact on the price, or had to wait and slowly dribble them off. I am not yet so clever to be really apt at evaluating them. Sometimes it seems like dumb luck too. IDK.

On the upside, I do own some more OTC stocks as they fell so much in the fall they got delisted! :eyes:

Some times I tell people the stock market is like a lotto and one can get lucky playing it . The market right now is just too risky even if one owns great stocks. Any little crap will effect the market nowadays, but it's a great time to get in to make some very good $$$$$ in 5 to 10yrs from now.

Investment Games

I really enjoy playing investment games.

I still relish those old days when we used to play Monopoly Board Game:yipi:

Monopoly is the most commercially-successful board game in United States history, with 485 million players worldwide

Good thing it's only a game lol. I'm getting pounded with a few picks I made.

lutach 08.03.2009 12:35 PM

Only 91 days left in this game and I just bought all the Brasilian stocks listed in the NYSE lol. I know a few might get canceled, but that's my plan before the games ends. Some of you guys are doing good.

bdebde 08.03.2009 03:24 PM

How long you been at the game lutach? You have made an awful lot of $! I think I have been a little over 90 days.

I started around 90 days after my friend did. I set up the game to show him the risk involved if one doesn't know what to do and he's in last place right now . I haven't done much research at all and if I went with my original picks, that number you see there would've been twice as much. Now my friend knows what it's involved to play the real stock market and now he said if one day he has money to spare, he'll do it (If I give him some good choices ).

I've finally made it back to the green numbers!!!! :wooohooo:

lutach 08.06.2009 01:15 AM

So, does anybody know what actually happen today? When I left my house early today to go to the indoor track, I was negative and when I went to check to see what damage was done, I was actually up 6.9%. I hope I stay above 1000% to the end of the game lol.

Lehman was just a goal I had to set lol, wanted to get 100 million shares of it. I'm very surprised MPhase is not moving up, it's a company with a great technology. Dryships is the one actually killing me. I'm currently just betting on some of the losers of the day to see if they can rebound. Hope I have some buying power today lol.

Invest now!!!! Don't wait for them to become public. Give them a call and see how much they'll accept from a new investor. They've been listed in the IPO list for a while now, but nothing is happening.

Edit: They might go by AONE.

How far are they from you? Stop by there and see what it takes, it's better to get in now then after they go public. That's where the real money really is.

Finnster 08.06.2009 12:05 PM

Uk, I was doing really well last week, but some things came up and I got hammered this week. I knew one of my major positions was going to post bad Q2's, and I debated whether to sell out before the earnings report. It was up over 45% in the last 2wks. I decided to hold on to it and not trade myself out of my position, and it did get creamed.
There are somethings going on in the company, not sure if news was going to get posted up here soon, or at all before the game runs out. We shall see.

Worse yet, is I get kinda frustrated w/ the interface and timing delays sometimes. As in the stock above, I did put a limit order in about 10min before the open to buy more shares when it was due to tumble on the open, but the order didn't get filled (stock bottomed out $0.14 lower than the limit in the first 10 mins from the open, then was back up 25% an hr afterwards... dammit.)
There have been a few times where I put in a buy or sell for so much, hit OK, then get an error (too many shares, not enough cash or above daily colume limits) I hit back and change the info, but sometimes it switches the buy/sell/short or Day order/GTC back to its default, I'm in a rush and end up doing the opposite of what I meant to do.. >_<
I've been pretty busy lately and haven't been able to spend as much time as I need to and try to rush things through

I've been playing pretty aggressive w/ things as I just started and am trying to make up for time. Plus I've been using it to experiment w/ different things and some have been more successful than others. It's play money and I don't really care. Not how I trade my actual money. I don't think I could handle the daily stress if was real money going so far up and down like that... I've swung from 13th to 7th place to 15th and back up inside a week lol.

We'll see where it goes. I'd def be up for starting a new game after this one finishes. Its been a hell of a year to play it in.

It would be nice if they could actually be more like real time. It's a pain waiting 15-20 minutes for a trade to go through. The real deal for me to start this one game, was to show my friend how you can loose or win in the stock market. He never traded before and it shows as he's in last place. I waited as much as I could before the market hit it's bottom and in those short months were it kept going down, I was in last place, but help my position. I told him to stay put and wait it out, but he didn't. It would stink for sure loosing half of the money if it was real .

If you set up a new game, let me know and I'll join in there. This time around I'll just go with any stock I can think of that has an extreme high risk of going under . I'll see how lucky I can really get with them.

I like Lehman, check out what it did , it might be down tomorrow, but I'll have some buying power to buy some of the big loosers of the day . I should've went for 200,000,000 shares . Also, GM aka Motors Liquidation MTLQQ has also gone up. I hope Dryships picks up though.

lutach 08.10.2009 02:05 PM

I want to see if I can get to $20,000,000 :gasp:. Maybe LEHMQ will pick up or MTLQQ and that will take me there for sure. I'll then sell everything and wait for the game to end.

I wish I was up 14% like Finnster is right now .

Nice day, but I took a huge pounding last week. The portfolio has been seesawing up and down $200+K the last few days. Seeing some of the other things catch gear today was a nice sign. Ended Fri in 15th place, but today ended in 8th $700 under Jnev.

Least I have some buying power again as well. There was a couple things I wanted to do but was actually negative buying power there for a few days last week.

lol, I need to clear out some of my shorts. Very risky experiments... I think I'm done with those.

When I started with my trades, I knew they were going to be for the long term of the game. Most of my stocks are just too risky to even try and trade for real. Do you think I'll be able to hit $20,000,000 by the end of the game? If Lehman goes up $0.15, I would be there. Maybe something crazy will push it up there.

What's_nitro? 08.10.2009 07:04 PM

My yo yo-ing continues. Looked at it Monday and I was at the bottom at 15th place. Today I shot up to 6th. :) Uk, this is starting to give me vertigo. Let's see where it goes. I'd really like to end the game over 1.5M

That shows how the market is at the moment. US should start setting a nice pace upwards and stop worrying (Or blaming) other world's market. This market might be a trader's market for a while now since there's a lot of money to be made currently.

I really thought investors had stopped their worries, but boy I was wrong. I took a pounding and now I'm not sure how to reach the $20 million mark. I'll probably just leave my stocks as is and if I have more buying power, I'll continue with buying what ever stock has a big loss in that day.

lutach 08.19.2009 03:29 PM

I should've kept my 200000 shares of HGSI that I had bought for around $2 and now it's close to $16.

I tried shorting that one a bit after that huge jump. Had it at 14.x, then it jumped upto 16.x.
That was when I decided I was done shorting. lol

Finnster 08.19.2009 04:38 PM

Market seems pretty jumpy, but has continued on a steady pace up. Hope it continues.
The one big position I had today popped quite a bit. 0.95 on Monday, jumped past 1.40 today, then fell back down into the teens. I was smarter this time and sold off quite a bit @$1.35+. The one that is killing me know is the one talked above where it spiked but I held onto it, went from $100K up to $100K down. It should move back up tho. We will see.....

Finnster 08.19.2009 04:43 PM

OTOH... I bought RTK a couple Fri ago @ .62. Sold it on the next Monday @ 1.35 :)
Baddass. Book profits and be happy.
Today? Jumps up to nearly $3.

Sometimes you never know.

lutach 08.19.2009 04:43 PM

I hate the fact that any little news will cause the market to either go up or down. I also hope this steady pace continues going up. There will be a movie about Lehman coming out, I hope people go nuts and push the stock up .
