Hey Metallover, cool tattoo!

Man that must have hurt... What voltage was it?

Metallover 04.07.2010 09:54 PM

I have six 5ah 6s lipos on my bike. It was at 66v when I shorted it. There was a HUGE flash/pop/spark and it scared me like noneother. Thankfully, it didn't hurt as I wasn't directly shocked and I wan't wearing any metal (rings:wink:).

The worst part of it was trying to wash the stuff off! It didn't come off until the end of the day after washing my hands vigerously 6-7 times..

The worst worst part of it was that it fried one of the connections inside the pack so I had to open it up and re-solder the joint. I wan't sure if it would hold up at first but it can take the limited 20a the bike pulls.

holy :surprised:

ouch, I don't think I wanna solder 66V packs...

That WOULD be a great tattoo though..

Wow 66V?! That is actually high enough to electrocute you... :oh: I'm sure it was burned into your skin which is why you couldn't wash it off easily. Thankfully I haven't fallen victim to a large discharge like this (yet). I do have plans for a rather large railgun though...

Way back i tried backflipping a maxx, only got as far as nose strait down and hit the ground like that.

2 half maxxes where the result.

yikes. i have 7 packs of 6s lipos, all 5k. two other 5s lipos too. and all with 6.5mm bullet connectors. i'd better double-check the shrink wrap tonight to make sure no metal is exposed!!

my biggest blunder was using a novak discharge tray to discharge a 7 cell racing ni-mh pack. i don't know what happened - the polarity was right, but somehow a few of the cells fried instantly!

Electrocution is a result of the current, not the voltage. A 1V high current shot is much worse than a 400V low current shot.

Yup, 30-60mA of AC current is enough to cause muscle paralysis (can't let go of circuit and can't breathe) and 100-200mA will fibrillate your heart, which for the most part will kill you unless you are defibrillated. DC current values are slightly higher but still relatively low.

That said the voltage has to be pretty high to overcome the resistance of the human body. However if you are wet that value can come way down.

Given these circumstances I don't think the 66V DC from the lipos could electrocute you. Even if he was wet, standing barefoot in a puddle only about 5mA would flow, and again that's absolute worst case scenario.

My RC Blunder

One of my RC buddy's has a HandyMan business, My biggest blunder was hiring him. He come over Monday and Demo'd and gutted the entire bathroom in the master bedroom. He asked for a few hundred bucks, I cut him a check for $1,000.00 to cover a few days labor and materials. Well, I haven't seen or heard from him since.

Some of you seem to be missing the point of the thread?

An e-bike using RC components doesn't count, and an RC buddy screwing you doesn't count.

OK I guess we'll take what we can get hehe. ML get some rubber gloves, and Bondo get some better friends!

Bondonutz 04.08.2010 05:13 PM

I never would have met this A-hole if it hadn't ben for RC, Close enough for me.

Since ML is using bullet plugs for RC, he's Ok too !

Poop on you Forum Policeman ! :na: :na: JK

I only meant that 66V was high enough for you to feel it... Yes high current would do more damage but below ~50V (I think) there isn't enough potential to pass current through your body. Now just because I said that, don't go licking your 6s Lipo... It takes much less potential to pass current through the tip of your tongue!
