I wasn't aware that the strobe only fit the old tranny. Oh well - guess I'll donate that to my brother in law.

I'm not sure that I will be using the maxx motor mount plate - I may end up putting the motor on a seperate mount so it faces the tranny and lines up down the center of the rig. I'm also not sure that I'll run Mod1. I have some of those modded MGT spurs somewhere in the pile. But all my other rigs run 32P, and I may just try to be consistent with them.

ps - I would never venture to say that maxx tranny is in any way superior to the LST tranny - since I dont have any experience with that tranny.

Ok, sounds like the erevo motor mount setup would work better for you. It is a bit stronger, but I would like to see an al case for that tranny as it does trake the motor weight however. Sounds like you have the other bases covered. Have fun with your build!

can't you just use nitro revo spurs on an e-revo/e-maxx tranny? that's what I used on my buddy's rustler to run mod1, works fine.

You can but they would be very small and I doubt you will fit smaller than 22t spurs, maybe not even that small if you plan to run a finned neu sized motor. The rustler 48p gears are closer to the size of the revo mod 1 spurs.

Exactly!

Cures that problem! Thanks for the link Harold (can I call you Hairy?). I am guessing someone makes a stronger motor plate as well. But....Once you add the cost of that tranny case, another tranny for internals(or buy the internlas piecemeal) and a better motor plate you have eclipsed the cost of the tdr stuff, and you still have to make stuff. And I still do not think it is as good. All of the internal gears in the lst tranny are steel, and to me the fit and finish is better than the traxxas stuff.

But if you like making stuff or have the parts hanging around go for it!!! It is fun building stuff!

shit, you can call me sally if you want. I'm still going with a gtp 51t center spool w/ my lst. I got the whole shebang for $20 on e-bay. Woot!

Finially A decent update, with Pics

Had time last night and today to work solid for a few hours and got a lot done. I'm sure I'll get mixed replys and comments or flat out told I'm a dumass ? I felt the 1800kv was acbit much for the truck and decided to put it in something much heavier. I recently purchased this Tekin 2000kv that is brand new and have decided to try it in the truck. I'm down to a 10-11T pinion but this is merely to so how well it'll work. If it's questionable then I might go with a 1500 Tekin motor if the fellow still has it availible or sumthin' else ?

Still waiting for my other shock tower and the body, should be here Thursday and then I can button this thing up and do some testing. I've had a lot of little problems with this build but it's ben a lot of fun. No regrets so far. Only hope it'll handle as well as I hope. I know it's not a bonified truggy but I'm optomistic that'll It'll be competitive with the the buddys whom can't drive worth a shiz with real truggys ?

Oh, the Dynamite Aluminum lower arms are 4 grams heavier than stock plastic, not much at all ! So, wire wheeled them, sprayed on some zinc chromate and some flat black. BAM ! stealth arms.

Heres what I do with most of my receivers in RC's without a radio box, CA'd HPI antenna mount directly to the case. Makes swapping stuff easy. I also take old servo plugs and remove the wires and fill w/thick CA and install into empty plug holes to help dirt out of RX's

Installed Front Shocks and a neatly trimmed MT Race bumper.
VERY ANXIOUS.

Looking good puttypants. I like the trimmed down bumper, looks strong, yet sleek. Kinda like a young Sean Connery.

Bondonutz 01.27.2010 11:07 PM

Thanks Pimple, Wish I could say the same for the rear. It just didn't have a nice shape to start with let alone when whittled down. O-well ?

She is a bit crosseyed... But still tasty. Buffet style! I only mentioned Sean as I know Harold flips his chair over and humps the ground at the mere thought of Mr Connery.

Nah, I just needed an excuse to see that ad again:rules:

Yeah that's just the kind of comment I'd expect from someone living in the 'schwank' of the US... It is a balmy 18 degrees here, I can sense your envy. And it's gonna be around 0 the next few days. I can send you a travel brochure if you like...

Good job man, I don't think you can get the cog or weight down any more. I think it'll TROMP your truggybuddies.

I was hopeing for lighter but it rings in at 9lbs 13.4ozs w/o the body and thats with lipo and tires.

pinkpanda3310 02.12.2010 09:04 PM

It never was a particularly light truck but it was sturdy. Is'nt there some weight savings in changing shocks?

that's way light for an LST, and with the low COG that rig should fly. Now you just need a competent individual behind the transmitter!:na:

Ya Know Harold, If it wasn't for the fact that your 100% correct I'd almost take offense to that !

BTW, whats stock weight for a nitro LST2, Is n't it like 12+lbs ?

_paralyzed_ 02.12.2010 11:12 PM

dunno, never bothered to weigh a nitro:neutral:

JThiessen 02.20.2010 01:28 AM

Hey Bondo, any update on how this thing runs yet?

Bondonutz 02.20.2010 10:29 AM

Only testing at the house and the bash spot. Between weather and my schedual I haven't ben able to hit the track yet(It's a 100mile round trip). But, the tests have ben very promiseing. Just screwing around at the bash spot I'm happy to report that the COG is very truggy-ish in handleing and the smart diff has made a monumental difference in how the truck steers and puts the power down through and coming out of a turn. Again, a run at the track will test these findings more accurately.
Hopefully weather permitting I'll get to the track thursday next week and I surely hope to get some video.
With wanting to go with the smallest MAH pack possible I may reconfigure my motor choice and elect to go 6s if track tests go the way I'm hopeing.

nitrostarter 02.20.2010 11:52 AM

I have a track that always open and 5 minutes from my 2nd house. You can always ship it to me for testing

JThiessen 02.20.2010 12:31 PM

How do you think you are doing with gearing?

Bondonutz 02.20.2010 12:43 PM

It's definitely fast enough, haven't run it against another truggy yet to compare speeds tho.
It still is pretty cool here, 65 during the warmer days. The trucks temps have ben around 20-30 degrees above ambient. Haven't had anything over 100yet. I noticed a slight binding when I cleaned the truck after last test, I have to inspect that and I suspect temps will be even better.

JThiessen 02.22.2010 11:46 PM

I've been searching for a steering saver upgrade for the LST's, and havent really found anything other than those plastic stock style savers. Anyone know of a way to adapt the Muggy style saver system?

BTW, Bondo, I'll start a new thread here in a few days on my build(s) and quit highjacking yours. Ended up buying a Muggy too, so I think I might be setting up both trucks at the same time. Getting machining estimates right now for a custom center diff mount for the LST. Got some additional CAD work to get done on it.

pinkpanda3310 02.23.2010 01:39 AM

Have a look here JT

lincpimp 02.24.2010 02:58 AM

Another member cut down the muggy setup so it would fit with less chassis mods. Need to get back and finish the 6x6... Soon.

Plans have ben falling through for one reason or another for going to the track. I've had a bad Flu the last 9 days and still down and out even after seeing Doc and Antibioctics. I haven't ben sick in 3 yrs, this one is making up for it.

nitrostarter 03.02.2010 11:14 PM

Go ahead and send it my way for testing!

Nice idea, but shipping will cost a small bundle. I think I'd rather be a little more patient and hope to get to the track myself soon enough.

Still waiting on Tekin to send the updated rotor also, whenever that'll be ??

nitrostarter 03.23.2010 08:31 PM

bondo! you're slacking! update please?

Bondonutz 03.23.2010 08:56 PM

OK,OK,OK ! I was going to wait till I had some video.

Last Thursday I spent the day at the track with my 4x4 Slashy and the LST2/Truggy.

The truggy was AWESOME !!!!! Handled predictably and went where I pointed it. It jumped better than I had hoped, nice and level. It was about 75 degrees outside and the RC's temps were perfect, nothing over 90degrees. I also got about (guessing)17-20minute runs with the 3300mah 5s packs. I spent the 2 packs getting used to the truck so I wasn't exactly killing it so my run times will shorten.
And I was very happy with the smart diff in the center, It's the bomb for sure. I only had the 2 5s packs with me and no charger, I packed light like a dummy. I brought the camera to get video but the freakin batterys were dead DAM.
My only complaint, I switched to the Losi 4.0lb white springs and they were still too heavy. The truck was bouncy but still felt planted. I found some Hot Racing 2.8lb springs and they are on the way. FYI the shocks are filled with 25wt Losi oil with stock pistons.
I'm going to be spending the next week or so working on my Jeep in my spare time, I will be hitting the track again soon and will be much better prepared I promise.

nitrostarter 03.23.2010 10:52 PM

Hmm! I like what I'm hearing!!

Bondonutz 03.13.2011 07:48 PM

Update

I made a new tray out of 3/16" Kydex, this is awesoms stuff. Very easy to work with and super tough.

http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...Truggy/013.jpg

I also added another brace, didnt need it but makes me feel a little more secure.

http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...Truggy/014.jpg

Heres the body

http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...Truggy/020.jpg

http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...Truggy/019.jpg

I've decided to sell it as a roller with no tires, the body is still like new and the whole truck is very clean. Needs nothing but electronics.
