The 107F Houston heat got me worried about running lipo's in my bike, so I opted back to running A123's. 28S2P this time around, which is 85.1V underload and 99V off the charger.

This bike is serious!!! Wow is that 6161.1+W!! Have you gotten any higher? And how are temps w/ the controller and motor?
I could go 24s on my bike, but I'm scared with my 4310 fets.. My controller isn't a Lyen. And BTW, I'm really jealous of your CA.... |
Yea that is 6000W. It could've been more, but I have set the CA at 4 for the data refresh rate and the amp limit is set at 50A. At level 1 I think I could've caught a higher spike. Temps aren't hotter than when I was running the Ebay 500W motor on less voltage. I'm really liking the Magic Pie motor for it's torque. I'm hitting 42mph with my chest against the wind. My powerlab charger is pushing 850W on a daily basis now at work. I can't run dual power supplies from one wall sockets at my house without tripping the breaker.
btw, Lyen also sells the CA. |
Your a madman I tell ya! But seriously I think you should put the 500W motor on the front, I'll make you another strap if you need.
Jeff |
An AWD bike heh. If I had a longer wheelbase bike, then yea. Plus I'm just scared to run a motor on my aluminum fork.
|
Don't be skeered. Remember I work in SST.
|
I'll stick the old setup in my wife's brushed ebike, so it runs quieter. Did you finish your little 4wheeler?
|
Sure did and after the guy came to pick it up he got it back to his house and about a day later said it wouldn't start. After asking a few questions, I asked if he had the kill switch on on the left side just above the starter button. He asked "what is that?" I told him "You see the switch that has the circle with the arrow at the end?" Yes he said, "Do you see the same symbol with the X through it, and is it on that one?" "Yes" I said "Push it the other way." Next thing I hear is "Hey it fired right up! Thanks you the man!" :sarcastic:
Those Chinease 4 wheelers are pieces of crap on the wiring side, but the running gear seemed good 110CC did pretty good. I am looking at Bayou 220 for $100, but I'm going to wait a litttle bit. I love carb problems seems knowbody seems to know how to work on them anymore. Jeff |
waiting vids of this e-bike ;)

Hey Snellemin, I was wondering if you could do a quick break-down of the parts you bought for this ( current/ final setup ), like the model of motor, controller(s), bike computer thingy and such + links for sources. I think I've located most of the items but there are more than one version of some of them so it would help alot to know exactly what you are using.
I am planning a bike build in the near future & your setup looks to be about ideal for what I had in mind ( though maybe not quite as fast  ). Cheers dude. |
Current setup:
1. 24s2p A123. Sometimes 28S2p A123. Cooler weather 22s1p 5000mah lipo. 2. Magic Pie Golden motor, external controller version. Using 4mm bullet connectors. 3. Lyen 12fet sensorless controller. Options added at time of order: Cycle Analyst connector, Cruise control connector, USB interface, two voltage setting jumper. 4. Cycle Analyst with external speedo. The current version can handle higher voltage and saving up for it w/associated controller to handle 26S lipo on the same motor. 5. cruise control interface 6. Half grip twist throttle 7. Added precharge resistor for zero sparks. 8. 9 speed freewheel with the smallest tooth being 11T. Lipo setup uses ec5 connectors. A123 setup uses ec3 connectors. I got the battery bag at Bicycle Barn and the rear rack at Performance cycle. I want to have nicer Schwalbe Big Apple tires in the near future. Goldenmotor.ca hub motor I got the Cycle Analyst, throttle, cruise control, sensorless controller from Lyen of Endless-sphere.com. He is located in San Fransisco. Mud guards from Performance cycle and REI. Freewheel of Ebay. Hope this helps. |
That does really help a lot for sure, thanks for the info man. :intello:
|
I got me some new tires. These are 26x 2.3 Michelin Pilot sport. Ride is way more comfortable at speeds over 30mph and can take corners alot faster.

I made a monster cap bank for my bike. Bike is way more responsive now at launch and no more power cutoff at startup. I used 19 100V 1500uF caps.

Interesting
Very interesting. When I first spotted the CAP bank I was thinking what in the hell is he going to use that one. That would be one hell of an R/C addition. Anyway great idea adding the CAP bank to you ebike. I guess that was cheaper than just getting one big of two medium size CAPs to do the same job? I just saw that there are more & more applications being thought up for using CAPs instead of batteries now. If only they could get the speed and high power of the CAP combined with the longevity of a good battery. That would make for a very good energy storage unit. Thanks for sharing your techniques, because I am learning all sorts of stuff through some of these home made ideas.

I wasn't having issues when I was running lower voltages. It's when I started going up in voltage that I was having throttle issues. I had to gradually increase my throttle to get up to speed. Not an issue in zero traffic, but kinda annoying in heavy traffic. Happens with both lipo and A123 power source.

I always wondered what the ampacity of solder wick was.

Brian,
It was more of a joke between me and Romano. |
Youtube link of my commute home http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=05IY79aQ3kk&hd=1
|
Interesting
Well that was interesting. So what was your top speed during that run? Next video you need to add some kind of mirror so we can see the traffic behind you. It was a little nerve racking watching you change lanes not knowing what was behind you. Also it would be nice to see your telemitry during the run. Nice smooth ride though. Looks like a fun way to travel to and from work. I am considering the same method since we live about 9 miles from the US Embassy here in Prague.
|
Top speed was 35-36mph due to the headwind. I do have a mirror, but you can't see it in the video. I would need to relocate the Cycle Analyst to make it visible on the camera. The camera is on the right side of my helmet.

Here is my commute to work this afternoon.

I was glad to see you wern't trying to go down H.S. Kohrville. That is a death trap for bikes. I see a guy riding his bike down there every day and I see how he always has to pull off. At least you can pretty much keep up with traffic.
Jeff |
I only ride that H.S on Saturday's. Too damn scary during the week. Speeding big trucks, Nascar drivers, running deers, deep ditches and zero shoulder.
|
Exactly. I am sure that dead spike is going to start stinking soon too, so you might want to stick with the route by Silverado for a while.
|
Coolbeans, I'll stick with my old route then.
Here's a vid of last nite going home. http://youtu.be/v7Wcuzikyuw |
Did you ride this morning and how did the batteries do in the "cold"?
|
I hurt my foot yesterday, so no biking this morning. I keep the A123's in the house, so they are ok in the cold morning. Me keeping a 2p configuration also helps as they get warm under load and get a bit more power as a result.
BTW, I've been charging the A123's to 3.5V instead of 3.6V. There is barely a difference in mah between 3.5 and 3.6V. My batteries are old now and hold 2000mah per cell. I almost ran out of power once near my house, due to a really strong headwind. I wish I could move the rear of the bike by 2" for a longer wheel base. I need to learn how to weld. |
Ummm, I know how to weld
Yours would be so easy since it's a cantalever system. |
I forgot man.......
|
I reprogrammed the sensorless controller and now I pop wheelies. Top speed is the same, but man it gets there alot faster I'm also using some Blue Lipo 20C packs now. I'll post more info on that one later once I get some more cycles out of them.

Had some time today and swapped over my stuff into my EVG bike. Running on 24s2p A123 and goes about 33mph. Still need to solder up the brake interrupt wires and add the lights.
http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z...e/DSC05245.jpg http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z...e/DSC05244.jpg http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z...e/DSC05243.jpg http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z...e/DSC05239.jpg |
That looks like a lot of fun Romano.
Where are the wheelie video's? Nick |
hahahah. The layout of this bike doesn't allow wheelies like the mountain bike did.
|
I wired the brake interrupts, which deactivates the controller when I brake. The cruise control also deactivates when I brake, but engages when release the brakes. Up next is the wire up the horn, second switch to turn of the controller and a 3 speed switch.

Damn impressive bike man does it shift gears by it self?
|
It's a fun bike. Going to run 24s1p lipo tomorrow morning and see how it does.
