Now I just gotta wait on my custom springs to be powder coated white and these shocks will be complete and ready to go on the truck. The wait continues lol.

BUT, I received my bulks and suspension parts back from a buddy who drilled & tapped the bulks, and made me up ejector pins as well. Let the building begin :-)

UE Spyder 6 diffs will be going into UE Superlite cases, and GARC 7075 bulks, G3 Gen 2 Gorillamaxx suspension arms and towers, Sweet Strobes & Centralemaxx 7075 16mm knuckles with UE Steel Pillowballs & Vivid RC bearings.

DarkSammy 02.21.2016 06:21 AM

So good to be getting some building done, waited a long time for these parts but glad to see them come together:

She is finally starting to take shape:

Very happy with the work a friend did for me tapping the bulks for ejector pins. It is amazing the friends you make in this hobby!

Nice build!!

RC-Monster Mike 02.21.2016 12:57 PM

Awesome build, Sam - the rear knuckles are installed backwards, but you'll fix that when you install the turnbuckles. ;-)

DarkSammy 02.21.2016 04:05 PM

Was getting tired by that stage haha. How embarrassing lol

_paralyzed_ 02.21.2016 06:06 PM

Any reason not to go with aluminum rod ends on the shocks? They are readily available.

DarkSammy 02.21.2016 08:47 PM

Yeah good point, I have seen mixed reviews on various aluminium rod ends. Racer's Edge are known to be awesome, 7075, but really hard to find. Then a lot of the other rod ends I have seen people report the quality to be sub par...

Do you have any advice on what is good? Would be keen to know, cheers :-)

tinuss 02.22.2016 08:30 AM

very nice build dude ....

hit me with your address .....
then I can send u my gmaxx suspension to polish :na:

DarkSammy 02.22.2016 10:31 PM

You already have my address, make sure you pack that 2nd set of AJ's Racing Foams while your at it :na:

DarkSammy 03.30.2016 06:16 AM

Well, have I been having some fun! Man I love this truck. Mounted up a pair of HCR Purple Titanium bumpers onto my suspension, these really set the truck up nicely I think:

http://i1186.photobucket.com/albums/...326_200235.jpg

Plan is to have my Centralemaxx 7075 16mm knuckles anodised purple to match the rest of the theme. I had the opportunity to pick up some HCR Purple bulks, but I just feel Silver Centres matched with purple on the outer parts ties things together better...

Anyway, on with some pics:

DarkSammy 03.30.2016 06:45 AM

Then I made the decision to donate a set of new rims I had for this build. A buddy sold me a NIP set of UE dish rims. It was hard taking them out of the plastic packaging, but they fit this truck very well, & I am thinking of getting them anodised purple to suit too. I found a local business that specialise in small runs of anodising parts...

Looking great, Sam!

KMN 03.30.2016 04:09 PM

Those wheels look like they're moving just sitting there! That's awesome!

DarkSammy 03.30.2016 07:42 PM

Thanks guys, have loved working on this truck. I paid for an in new condition Gorillamaxx short front skid the other day too. Should receive it in the next few weeks once it arrives from the states. Will post up pics once it has been installed

DarkSammy 04.01.2016 10:00 PM

Mike I cannot tell you how much I love the design of the Slipperential V1! I just can't take my eyes off it. Back in the days when you designed it, what were the goals you set out to achieve? I am guessing the only alternative at the time was the G1 motor mount and that seems like it mounts the motor(s) far too high imho... Nitro would still have been more mainstream back them too? What motors were you guys using when the Slipperential was in its heyday?

RC-Monster Mike 04.02.2016 03:28 PM

Glad you like it, Sam. The design goal at the time was purposeful to say the least: The gear ratio was developed based on 40k motor rpms yielding around 40mph +/- top speed, with available pinion/spur options - this was pretty ideal for race situations(and still is, actually). I raced quite frequently at the time and was sponsored by GorillaMaxx(and did a fair amount of R&D as well as making a few parts for the Gorilla kits). The Gorilla mount was too flimsy and the stock tranny setup had a very high Cg. I wanted a center differential for optimum handling, and the slipper for motor longevity(rotors had a bad habit of dislocating from the shaft) and traction control....they say necessity is the mother of invention, so the Slipperential transmission was born! When Gorilla released the G3 kits, the chassis braces no longer had the holes used to mount the motor mount for my setup - I briefly redesigned it with the Gorilla Revo compatibility(only made 2 or 3 of those) and discontinued the part - followed up by the patented Slipperential center diff we offer today. :-)

DarkSammy 04.02.2016 06:42 PM

Man, absolutely awesome info, thanks for sharing! I can't begin to imagine how exciting times back then would have been with electric components of our hobby getting better and better by the day... You need to be commended on the results you have achieved over the years.

DarkSammy 04.03.2016 05:58 AM

Finally got some nice enough weather and the time to take some shots out in the yard this weekend. Hope you guys enjoy:

nitrostarter 04.03.2016 08:15 AM

That's a good looking rig there! Didn't think I would like the dish wheels but man they look great!

DarkSammy 04.03.2016 07:34 PM

I agree 100%. I was not a big fan either but they came up for sale at a good price and I could not pass them up. Their reflection in the light really sets the truck apart I feel and I am happy I grabbed these rims when I did. Now I just gotta find some tyres, I reckon a set of 3.2 Badlands would be the ticket, but man they are hard to come by. Wish Proline continued manufacturing them as they are the go to tyre for a lot of MT drivers.

nitrostarter 04.03.2016 08:16 PM

Right! When Traxxas switched to the 3.8" wheel, the market converted as well. I was looking to find some Maxx Mulchers but that's a needle in a haystack as well, even though they made those in 40 series too.

Edit: just checked eBay and these Mulchers are available and may interest you https://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/231870975368

Edit: 4 New Bow-ties https://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/121940730757 Road Rages https://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/322060633923

DarkSammy 04.04.2016 12:58 AM

Thanks for the links man! Really appreciate it, I always loved the Mulchers back in the day, might keep my eyes out for a set. I just forked out $530 for another truck haha, so my wallet is hurting too much this week to afford new tyres...

KMN 04.04.2016 01:58 PM

Panther still makes a LOT of 3.2 tires. I just picked up a set of slicks for the Emaxx I'm building as well.

http://www.panthertires.com/store/in...ory&path=63_75

EDIT: Just went and looked!! 10 bucks a pair!! They're on sale!

DarkSammy 04.05.2016 02:49 AM

Nice one! Great find, cheers man. I think the slicks would look pretty cool with these rims too

tinuss 04.06.2016 07:02 AM

I have a set mulchers for ya if u like.....
u only need to polish me a suspension kit ..... :na:

DarkSammy 04.06.2016 07:22 AM

Haha, the question is, what don't you have Ralf. Your collection is worth getting jealous over my friend, love it when you share pics of the builds you are working on.

tinuss 04.06.2016 09:02 AM

None of my trucks and yes it is a few look SO GOOD as yours !!!!

Except my latest .... but that is still a WIP... :)

Mmmm... Mulchers look so good on Maxx trucks. I don't understand why Pro-Line discontinued them!

DarkSammy 04.06.2016 06:40 PM

I know right, man I miss the days where Monster Trucks were just everywhere.

tinuss 04.07.2016 06:40 AM

truggy's took it over a little I guess....

I Still like the look of a monster truck though ...
And a decent tuned maxx could compete with a truggy i would say

RC-Monster Mike 04.07.2016 12:04 PM

I have long been a monster truck fan. Don't get me wrong, as I like buggies and truggies as well, but monster trucks are just the most fun RC to me. A modern mulcher(tall wheel, short sidewall) would be sweet for ripping up the turf and general bashing IMO.

DarkSammy 04.07.2016 11:58 PM

Agreed Mike. Monster Trucks hold a special place in my heart, they always have and they always will. Truggies are fun, but where is the customisation? There are a few factory option parts and that's it, boring... haha

DarkSammy 04.08.2016 01:01 AM

And agreed Ralf, I'd back a well tuned Maxx any day of the week, but I am a bit biased haha
