I think I was running 13/51 gearing(Strobe Slipper) on the xl2400 motor and 5s Lipo cells. I am still running this setup, actually. I have the EPA turned down so I only get about 2/3 of the available power(so I can hold it on the track!). The Strobe slipper is helpful as well. I had the prototype one speed for that race as well.

i think you can get a 12 tooth pinion from finedesignrc.com
|
FYI, last time I checked, Fine design's pinions were Robinson pinions that were drilled out on a drill press(not enough meat for the set secrew to get a good grab).
|
thanks mike. good to know that because i almost bought my pinions from there:eek:
|
That's an interesting topic, guys. Altough it's off topic here, I will also throw something in. As most of you might know, I also have heat issues on my 14 cell 9L, even on 14/72 gearing. And I look forward to a Lehner Basic XL.
But I would be interested in a 12 or 13t pinion nevertheless. Interesting to know you tame stuff down with the radio. Would love to see your Maxxes in action. |
I'm speaking from personal exspirence dont buy pinions from(fdm) . I bought 3 pinions and stripped all 3 in the same night. There is not enough meat around the set screw. Also jamie at starluck has some pinion sizes that mike does'nt.

@ dafni. I think running a 16-18 cell GP2200's and another KV range motor would eliminate your problem.

hey macII, welcome to the forum. its a great place for brushless info. im the one that talked to you at the season opener at madness (emaxx4190) (the one hit you and broke the aluminum pillow balls). are you still running in first gear on your track? how the truck going? i think i may come down to connecticut sometime this summer and race at xtreme. i heard they got quite a few emaxxs running there and they got a cool new track setup. is this your local track? i would like to race against you again. i finally got my driving skills back up to par, i was a little rusty at madness. im killing all the revos at my track with my 10L:D everyone couldnt belive how fast it was.
|
Hey 4190, nice to hear from you. Yep, still in 1st. A bit faster with a wider selection of pinions. Doing well this season, so far I'm 3 for 3 on A Main wins at my local track (mostly due to good luck as opposed to anything else. its been very close, we are all seconds away from eachother). Had to settle for 3rd at the Barn. Xtreme has developed quite an electric following, 4 heats of (6) stadium each week and we have 5 regular sick brushless E's. Glad to hear things are going well with the 10L. I'm sure I'll see you again soon.

mike,
thanks for the warm welcome to the forum just wnated to ask i am not yet in the brushless stage i just took out the stock titans and installed to 19 turn motors what should be my gearing can i used the stock 66 tooth spur with the stock pinions along with a 14 cell batts |
I would drop down to 15 or 14 tooth pinions for 14 cell use using the 19 turn motors. They will burn up pretty quick with tall gearing.

just got your reply thanks but i am now currently installing the hv maxx and the suggested gearing of novak sight is 72 spur and 12 pinion gear give or take 2 gears down. is that ok? and in mounting it using the gorillamaxx motor mounts where is the best place to mount it on top or at one side and if on one side which side is better takinginto consideration weight distribution and CG.
I am thinking of not installing the fan of the esc first anyway the track i normally use does not have a lot of straight aways it is more technical with a couple of triple jumps |
I would use the recommended gearing for the Novak system, as well as the fan. For mounting the motor, I would mount it low to one side-opposite the steering servo is where I put it(I don't use shift servo), high enough to clear the controller, but as low as possible.
You will want to use the fan, or you risk thermal shutdown, especially on a hot day. |
thanks i just got your reply but i already did a test run on the track yesturday and there was no problem with the speed and power but my handling was a disaster she was all over the place the track was a bit loose but i was already using bowties and wasbash guys i need help on the suspension setup i have a race this coming weekend pls help me
|
If the handling was loose, I would start with heavier shock oil and a lower ride height(maybe-arms level works in most cases). A stiff servo saver and a strong steering servo could also be part of the trouble. Light diff oil (especially in the rear) will help make it easy to drive on the loose stuff as well(if you have this tuning option).

mike thanks for the advice i'll try doing it one at a time and see what happens maybe will take notes on the effects thanks again
