GorillaMaxx360 05.29.2007 06:27 PM

Ok i have took away and added many things first Away with the ti arms and 3.3 stock turnbuckles. I added a single speed, gmaxx 3.3 race suspension, MIP 3.3 cvds, (man these things are thick) maxx 3.3 tubes, center dogbone, and some carbon fiber hinge pins. And still on the way are some wicked tire and rim combination on 23mm hubs. Did have one question for you guys though. the cvds/dogbones for the center of the truck won't fit. I grinded the front one to make it fit but it became to tight and it fits but it binds. The rear one was not grinded but it fits snug and binds too. I am using the flm hybrids with hb diffs and hb diff cups for pinions, and an FLM dogbone in the rear and a rc monster 72mm dogbone in the front. Do you guys have any idea on what i could do or what sizes i need thanks.

Here are the pics (sorry for poor quality)

Looks awesome. Sorry, Can't really help with the cvd's/dog bones. I know how you feel... not being able to drive it, etc. I can't drive my buggy either.

GorillaMaxx360 05.29.2007 06:52 PM

it cool man, but thanks for the complement. As for driving it i am not to mad becasuse it is going to be a while anyway because i need a radio, charger, batts, dogbones, motor, and misc. small stuff.

supralover72 05.29.2007 08:14 PM

WOW, your one lucky, deserving man. It's not a maxx, it's a BEAST! lol

nice truck

Procharged5.0 05.29.2007 08:17 PM

Hey G-Maxx....

We'll have to get out there and "do battle"!

G-Maxx/FLM/Quark/BL Motor??? takes on Supermaxx/FLM/MambaMax/Neu1515!

What do you say????

GorillaMaxx360 05.29.2007 09:09 PM

yeah

Procharged5.0 05.29.2007 09:13 PM

Lets see who gets their truck together first...

Odd's are you'll beat me to it.

btw, are you in the city or a surrounding suburb???

GorillaMaxx360 05.29.2007 10:03 PM

actually you probably will beat me to it. I am hoping at best to finish it at the end of summer but no guarantee. I am in the north west suburbs.

BTW any info on how long til the hrs slippers are done and where to buy

neweuser 05.30.2007 10:43 AM

GM360, i really like the red accents on your truck. It looks like she's really coming along. One thing If I may, I would get the ti hingpins, you will not be sorry. I had some that were cf and they snapped and wore easily. ti is your best bet my man...

Ti hingepins all the way!

RE: HSR Slippers......

They will be back on track shortly. Work & family demands (financial demands too) have sidelined the project but it's coming "back on line" and I hope to have the final product available late June/early July.

They will hopefully be sold thru RC-Monster (I'll chat w/Mike when I have actual product to ship) plus available thru Al's hobbies in Elmhurst, Venture Hobbies in Wheeling, possibly Leisure Hours in Joliet, and www.rcbros.com.

GorillaMaxx360 05.30.2007 07:18 PM

about the pins they came in today. I currently have the ti pins in the arms now that came with the suspension. the only reason i got ti pins is because people said i would be bending metal pins like speghitti so i thought i would give the cf ones a try but i have 8 hinge pins from the suspension kit, 8 extra gmaxx ti pins and 4 steel flm pins. What are your opinions how long do you think the ti one will last. Mid to low jumping for me, nothing really to jump here but if i find something i would be very eager to jump it as long as it is not over 15ft.

CrazyPhantom 05.31.2007 08:49 PM

Looks good, you should have saved up for VBS. Looks good otherwise.

ClodMaxx 05.31.2007 09:52 PM

yeah, but it's not a true supermaxx without it :027:

Procharged5.0 06.01.2007 02:26 PM

I guess..........

Did you know that they went up in price? The "VBS Towerless" are not $675 list and "on sale" for $615!!!!!

I don't think that price includes diffs either!

ClodMaxx 06.01.2007 02:34 PM

see, i can't find towerless except the upper and lowers. the only VBS i can find on their site is towered - but yes, the 'sale' at $615 doesn't include spyder gears, lol. and he wants $100 PER SET of the spyders, so tack on another $200 to that $615 for complete vbs!

there was a guy on their forum that sold a used set of towered VBS that included 6 spyders for $450. that's more in my price range, but i still couldn't drop that on them....

Procharged5.0 06.01.2007 04:05 PM

I'd love a set but unless I sell my Mustang and reroute that money into RC I'll have to settle for UE Ultralites, FLM Combo bulks, or just stay with my GA housings w/FLM diff cups.

However, the ball is rolling as I picked up two new 6-spyder diffs for $60.

Anyone interested in two new GA 7075 diff housings and two new FLM diffcup/gear assemblies???

All the parts are new in bags w/new Traxxas pinions, spyders, etc. Housings a mirror polished. On set we "mocked up" for fit but none have been used.

The*rc*dude 06.11.2007 04:08 PM

if you ever sell it tell me lol

Update

Well guys time for an update, it has been some time now and i thought i would let you know how it is going. today i finally finished my maxx and was so excited to program it and run it. So after school i came home and programed the quark and bolted up the motor. i took me a while and i finally got it right. i went out to test drive it and it worked then i lost connection between the car and remote. after about an half hour of trouble shooting i realized my rx pack was dead. so i charged it up and was ready to go. i was so glad my quark started and programed fine because a week before it emitted a puff of smoke that was odorless from the ESC. (long story short i took ESC apart and inspected no damage was present also it light up and seem to work normal) so i drove the car and i must say i was very very very impressed. i have never driven nor seen anything accelerate so fast in my life in RC. i was running a Neu 1515 1y on 125b with heat mod on 4s lipo 6400s from true RC on 49/20 gearing and i must say WOW. it was almost two powerful for me. it would beat my friends 3.3 jato in a drag race to 40mph. this thing was amazing. it handed superb and was fast. from a stand still it would do a half back flip if i nailed the gas and it would pop wheelies and ride them through the grass at about 30. crazy. i never knew they made anything this good. i have seen videos but until you feel the power you never really know how awesome it really is. but to make a long story short it only lasted about 3-5 minutes and it just stopped. i thought that is strange, so i walked up to the car and smoke poured out like a fog machine. i mean it poured out. i have fried a dozen motors, speedos, and other electronical devices but not of them smoked like this. i took off the body to find the ESC sparking, and on fire under the case(mini fire could be seen from the outside of the case cover, fire appeared to be on chip) and so i rushed into the garage and cut the zip ties off holding it down and took it out. when i pulled it out it was so hot inside that the ESC wires just stayed in the truck because they came un-soldered. Luckily no damage to the truck happened from the fire due to all the alu. but the front skid (gmaxx ) got bent slightly from bashing, and the single speed got some minor yellowish tenting from the burning. but that was it. Also when i got done with the run the battery's where admitting heat(i mean they went cold but where not warm buy any means and the Neu was slightly warm) All in all it was a wishy washy day. anyways i do have some questions for you guys.
1.) Any idea what could have gone wrong.
2.) Is there any ideas you have that could possibly solve my no ESC issue(warranty is up)
3.) is there a better way to secure the pinion to the motor shaft. (i used lock tight on set screw but just a drop and there is a flat spot on motor)

That is all for now i will post lots and lots of pics of how the maxx looks now.

One last thing before the pics. I know a lot of you guys are stuck because you need a slipper assembly for your maxx and the stock one wont hold up to BL, ,R&R slipper wobbles to much, the revo one requires lots of mods and sticks out to far, and the strobe is out of stock. Well i have been experimenting (well have tried for 5 min) a new concept that i think might just work but more testing is needed to see how long term use is. On my truck i am using a savage spur (49) with the savage slipper pads and the stock slipper pads from an Emaxx. so basically it is a stock setup but instead of pegs and stock slipper it uses pads and slipper from the savage. I also used two lock washers from the revo slipper assembly and two lock nuts to make sure nothing backs off. i had it down all the was and 1/8 turn back off. the good thing about the savage spur is it is mod 1, availability is easy to come buy and when installed there is virtually no wobble what so ever. OK just an idea, but here are the pics.

Wow, what a work of art that truck is. Can't beleive you would drive something that nice... Too bad about the Quark. I don't have any idea's of what could have happened. My only recommendation would be that you put a Velcro strap going long wise, so that the pack won't slide back and forth.

Great job on the truck though.

nl12 11.09.2007 11:03 PM

Quark has an excellent service policy, contact them, send it in and 9 times out of 10 they will replace it virtually free, I would buy an eagletree it would help you figure out when something is going wrong. What problem are you having with your pinion. Your truck looks great it also reminds me of my CRT I run the same wheels, tires, and body, and similar wing.

GorillaMaxx360 11.09.2007 11:19 PM

do you think i would have a chance at a new one even though i did the heat mod and the warranty is expired, although this was the first time i used it. my pinion had come off at the end of the run so i guess i need to figure out a better way to secure it.

nl12 11.10.2007 08:50 AM

Yes, I do their service is great, just put it back together call them up tell them it smoked, if they ask about mods tell them if not I wouldnt say anything, they will probably send you a replacement without even opening it up given its badly burnt condition, maybe a little more thread lock may be needed on the pinion.

2FastSS4U 11.10.2007 09:20 AM

Well I must say, that is an amazing truck you've got there. I'm very envious for sure. Sucks about the Quark though I've still got my fingers crossed that mine doesn't do anything like that, guess all I can do is hope.

JERRY2KONE 11.10.2007 10:06 AM

Considering?

Well first off given the financial restraints you are under I think that you have built an extremely nice truck. Look we know how long you have been working that project and we all know how frustrating it is to have to wait so long. The good thing is when a project takes that long you get to learn more about what these trucks are really made of and you get to truly appreciate the sport for what it is before taking the truck out and killing it. Too bad about the Quark. Like nl12 said just send it in and hope that they will replace it for you. What do you have you to lose. A company that puts out top quality products like the Quark don't like to have unsatisfied customers. It is bad publicity for them.

Be patient and everything will work out. I have been working on four different versions of the ext SuperMaxx for almost three years now with thousands of $$$$ invested into my toys, and I have not raced any of them yet. I have taken them out for testing and a little fun, but nothing serious yet. The one mistake you made was going crazy on your first time out with the truck. When you have that much work and money into your project you need to be patient, run a little and check your temps. Keep doing that until you feel it is safe to max out the electronics. You might have been able to catch this and find the problem and fix it before this happened.

As for the choices you made in your construction everything is a personal preference and peace of mind factor and you have built a great vehicle. You should be proud of the work you did. Looking at your convictions and dedication to build such a sweet truck we can only imagine the kind of work you will be doing over the next several years. Great job Kiddo. Keep at it, and you will be having more fun than you even expected. This is not really a hobby of quick fixes. This stuff takes time and money that none of intended on spending at first, but it is adictive and like any hobby it will take a good deal of money to keep you happy. You have gone big right out of the block creating a truck that most of us have worked our way up to. You have to work with in your budget if you want to keep your truck running.

Question? Did the sets crew back out of the pinion gear? Does it stick out of the gear when installed? Just a thought, for the kind of power you are using you can also try putting a drop of locktite on the shaft as well. Also put some heatshrink around the gear where the setscrew is and shrink it, after installing it so you will not lose the setscrew. It will help to keep it from walking out. If the pinion gera is meaty enough you can drill it out and tap a bigger size screw into it for more strength.

Well good luck getting this project up and running and keep us up to date.
