Hmmm - the motor mount works great however - the rear brace needs to relocated or extended so it links up with the diff towers. Can't fit run a small pinion without having the edge of the motor bump into the brace. I may work fine for typical gearing, but I want some extra flexibility. I will keep you posted.

yea I know,. I will put a filter on.. But it already has a sintered bronze(very good filter) in the fuel tank so another is not needed..
For motor its an Infinity .27. Steering servo is a Hi Tec HS-5645mg.. http://www.shopatron.com/product/par...r=35645S/110.0.. Throttle servo is a Specktrum Z590 Hi-Torque Race Servo.. both all metel geared... I just bought a TSAIS exhaust for it too. Love the way they are so quiet.. Quote:

LOL! Just kidding! It looks great. |

...and here I though I was going a little overboard with the .26 I installed. |
The Nitro Powered Yusa Project Buggy
http://stampedeproject.com/Yusa-Kyos...008B_small.jpg Of course we needed a nitro powered buggy control for our little experiment. Just to assure I didn't have any screamers in the group complaining that I used some under powered mill, I installed a beast of a motor. Obviously a .21 is the standard buggy, but I used a factory .26 Hot Bodies motor to give the Nitro version quite a bit more extra power and HP. Some will notice I swapped out the spin to start adapter for a pull start. No, I am not a masochist, the mill turns over pretty easily and I hate caring around a spin start unit or starter box everywhere I go. I found a Sportwerks Buggy body on clearance for around $10 and made the modifications needed to make it fit. The steering servo was the same Tower Hobbies eBay special that was installed on the other buggies and a Hot Bodies unit takes care of throttle and braking duties. http://stampedeproject.com/Yusa-Kyos...3994_small.jpg http://stampedeproject.com/Yusa-Kyos...4003_small.jpg http://stampedeproject.com/Yusa-Kyos...4005_small.jpg |
LOL yea I hear ya. Im new to the Nitro scene and its a pita as compared to electrics.. But I do like the noise and smoke:) I may just throw up my arms by the summer and convert it to brushless lol

LOL. Yea she should fly with it. Its rated at 2.7 hp and 41k rpm:intello:
Oh and I have a specktrum radio for it too.. Quote:

sweet... Looks like a sportworks clutch too.:)

Also notice the extra cross lines I milled in the head. As I was overhauling the engine for the re-build I figured why not. |
any of you guys opened up the diffs yet? are they lubed? need shimmed? i started tearing off the nitro stuff on my yusa rally, and noticed the diffs seem a bit noisy.
|
I was gonna take mine apart last night. Have not ran it yet and was going to fill the 3 diffs with siilicone... Never got to it tho.. :( Im prety sure thery are just greased..
|
i will most likely get mine tore down tomorrow. i'm also going to try to look at thier sizes to see if other 1/8 diff parts will fit. it'll be nice if there is an easy hardend upgrade if its ever needed.
|
ok, keep us posted on how it goes...
|
Mine were grease filled.
|
filled all three diffs with silicone and converted most of the aluminum parts to Carbon fiber, installed machined aluminum front hubs and installed a Tsais pipe.. Heres latest pics

Very Nice!!
Who's CF parts are you using? Were they direct fits? |
anybody on here have the 2 speed, and is it shifting for you? my rally wont shift, and i can't find the problem.

Does anyone know if this chassis will fit the Yusa buggy?
http://www.larrysperformancercs.com/...004&type=store I've trashed the stock one pretty well now and am in need of a good replacement. If not any idea's of others that may work? |
it should be the one.. fits fine I think

UPDATE - The Novak 4.5 HV Test
I finally got my butt in gear and started some testing. The results quite frankly pissed me off in more ways than one. I tracked Motor and ESC Temps, Motor RPM, Throttle Level, Voltage, and AMP draw using my with my Oracle Data Recorder. My thought was that since the Novak HV 4.5R ripped it up pretty well on my E-Revo it should be able to handle a freaking buggy - that would be a big NO and a disappointment in so many ways. First the massive Novak motor heatsink had to be ground down on the mill to allow for driveshaft clearance and my rear support had to be moved to the other side of the driveshaft (that part was easy and required just a countersunk hole.) I fabricated a ESC mount to bolt up to the diff tower and mounted the GINORMOUS fan cooled Novak HV ESC. and spent the better part of an hour getting everything hooked up to the Oracle data recorder. Basically I beat the hell out of the system until it thermaled and boy did it thermal a lot. Turns out that temp seems to be around 155 degrees however I would imagine if I could have mounted the temp probe inside the ESC instead of stuck in the heat sink that temp would have around 200 degrees (a typical termaling temp). RPM topped out at just over 10,000 RPM with the 3S 5000MH MaxAmps Lipo pack with current maxing at around 100 AMPs, and a 12.2V peak. The motor really wasn't the issue, it was that freaking decade old ESC. Come on, let's at least move into year 2000+ technology. It's fan cooled for God's sake, it can't even keep cool with a 1.5" fan blowing on it. The kicker was it was also pretty damn slow, not like I can gear the thing down a ton from the 16T pinion. I didn't have a GPS strapped on however, eyeballing it I would say in the high 30's. I am going to gear down a bit if I have the clearance, otherwise I may give the 4.5R motor a spin with a Mamba Max or Tekin R1Pro and see what happens. http://stampedeproject.com/Yusa-Kyos...5705_small.jpg http://stampedeproject.com/Yusa-Kyos...5708_small.jpg http://stampedeproject.com/Yusa-Kyos...5710_small.jpg http://stampedeproject.com/Yusa-Kyos...5712_small.jpg http://stampedeproject.com/Yusa-Kyos...5713_small.jpg http://stampedeproject.com/Yusa-Kyos...5714_small.jpg http://stampedeproject.com/Yusa-Kyos...5715_small.jpg |
I would say 3s isnt enough for a 1/8 buggy at any speed, especially not for the high 30mph range. I gear my buggy on 4s for low to mid 30s. The overgearing combined with the tiny novak rotors would definitely cause your heat problems.

(For what it worth) Mike just sold a 5s for 170 bucks, i should get around 15 minutes of running time out of it.. http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...5S_3700&cat=18
Nice buggy!!, Sorry to hear your having ESC issues at the moment. Have a great one Shaun. |

Novak finally started giving gearing recommendations for their motors. The do not recommend using the 4.5 for anything but a speed run, but they suggest using a 10-11t pinion for the new 5.5 (depending on model). Also, assuming you are still using the 1/8 in shaft, the old 4.5 is equivalent to the new 5.5, so a 10t or 11t should work. If you have a plastic spur, century and thunder tiger make mod1 pinions for their helis (go down to 9t) but they are not hardened. I think Novak has "hardened" pinions now in 11t, maybe even 10t.

Wooo hooo I already have a 12T. I'll give that a try this weekend.
9T, WOW didn't even think a Mod1 could make the radius at 9T - Do you get any weird spur/pinion wear? |
WOW i am shocked, i see my LHS is mentioned. http://www.larrysperformancercs.com Does anyone else live near this HS?

I gave the Yusa a complete tuning overhaul. I took my Losi Race Roller and matched that setup to the Yusa. Holly cow it changed the handling completely.
I will work up and post a setup sheet. |
