RUSTY XL-5 02.12.2008 12:51 PM

Go 5 cell and hang on tight!!!

BrianG 02.12.2008 01:09 PM

I agree. You can always set the EPA on your radio lower until you get used to the power.

pipeous 02.12.2008 02:18 PM

what if your mamba can't take the 5 cels? some versions can't from what I have read. if you buy a 5s pack and can't use it, you'd certainly be PO'd... I know I would be.

squeeforever 02.12.2008 02:32 PM

If that was the case, just take a cell out and re-shrink it.

I have an ubec and it has GriffinRu stage 1 mod, plus 12ga wires and castle 5mm connectors. I think it should be ok? The MM is only until the MMM is released. I guess to be on the safe side I can get a 4s pack until the MMM is available...... I don't know, I hate these decisions.

I was almost decided on 5s until doubt of the MM's power handling was put into my head.

DickyT 02.13.2008 09:24 PM

got a shell for it:

I like very much.

Sammus 02.14.2008 10:10 AM

So whats the plan for this truck anyway? Certainly looks nice... will it be a show car or a racer or basher or what? I'm pretty much assuming from the center diff that you'll be racing? maybe only on road by the looks of those tyres :P lol revo tourer conversion, now thatd be interesting... pointless maybe? haha. nice work anyway, I like the colouring. particularly the silver chassis and black dyed rockers.

DickyT 02.14.2008 11:16 AM

Thank man. The truck will be a basher that might see some track time if I can find a gorup that will let me run with them. The local tracks are nitro based with no BL classes. And the nitro guys do not want to run against electrics.

I have another set of Wabash that I need to dye and mount a set of bowties or crime fighters too for dirt. The road rages are just for my condo and work parking lots.

I put the center diff in so it is not a wheelie machine. bashing or not i like to have all 4 on the ground unless jumped.

86ragtopstang 02.14.2008 11:23 AM

i just noticed a somewhat odd issue with my revo project. when you move the truck forward wheels dont turn. push it backwards and they do. is this a brake issue?

BrianG 02.14.2008 12:10 PM

So the wheels slide when pushing the truck forward, but roll when pushing it backwards?

86ragtopstang 02.14.2008 12:13 PM

yep. that is exactly what they do.

BrianG 02.14.2008 12:16 PM

Do you still have the two speed tranny? That sounds like the OWB doing its thing...

86ragtopstang 02.14.2008 12:20 PM

im not sure. been quite some time since i did any major work to the truck.

DickyT 02.14.2008 12:31 PM

agreed, sounds like the owb. I have mine removed. the truck slides in both direction when pushed unless the surface is grippy. then it wil click click click and roll. I can't believe how hard it is to turn this motor over while powered off. compared to my mamba that spins freely it almost feels brushed with strong magnets.

pipeous 02.14.2008 02:17 PM

The colors look awesome dude. And I want those rcm stickers ;). I didn't mean to scare you off 5S, I am just one of those lean to the side of caution guys in case, but if it's a griffin modded esc, I bet he tested 5S. My bud is running his on 3S and it goes good.

When I got my plettenberg I thought the motor was pooched it was so hard to turn.

DickyT 02.14.2008 04:07 PM

Actually I'm glad you made me think twice. I would have been upset if I ordered 5s and it could not handle it. the only thing I need to get extra now is an external LVC. Artur said the MM will not function on 5s using built in lvc.

DickyT 02.15.2008 09:12 AM

Just ordered a hyperion eos0610i charger, true rc 5s 8000mah lipo, battery bunker, and li-saver lvc for cars.

now the fun of waiting on the brown truck....

electric 02.15.2008 11:17 PM

great build of the car, wanted to no what LVC and will you be able to run 5s with no modifications.
thanks for help

Thanks. When finished it will have an MMM when released. In the interim I'll be using a GriffinRu stage 1 modded MM with ubec and a car version li-saver from the rc-monster store.

DickyT 02.21.2008 08:00 PM

griffinru mm = toast :(

I got home, wired in the li-saver, plugged in a 2s lipo to check the system. it armed all worked well.

I plugged in my 5s pack, flipped the power switch on the MM and it smoked as soon as it armed. I didn't even get to pull the throttle.

back to a stock MM and 12 old nimh until my b-day @ the end of march...

pipeous 02.21.2008 08:09 PM

oh wow that truly sucks.

DickyT 02.21.2008 08:30 PM

yep. such is life. you play with fire you can get burned. I got burned. life would be no fun for me if I did not push limits, and I have always loved computer overclocking. an overclocked esc seemed fun to try.

DickyT 02.22.2008 02:36 PM

on a positive note. i work with a group of electronics engineers. The lead engineer has asked me to bring the controller in to him to examine. he said if it is only fried fets and the pcb is intact that he can replaced the fets. here's hoping :D

DickyT 02.23.2008 07:37 PM

just came back from the track with it. 12 nimh and a stock MM. For being underpowered it drove very well. plenty of torque for the jumps. just slow down the straight.

It was my 1st time ever at a track, I think it took the basher out of me. lol. not all, but I'm hooked.

sucks it was not on 5s, but soon enough. it will be a different experience on 5s.

thetick 02.24.2008 12:50 AM

Is that the stock reciever box?

DickyT 02.24.2008 01:39 AM

it is a tekno rx box.

thetick 02.24.2008 02:59 AM

does it attach with no modifications? I think I'll need to get one of those.

thetick 02.24.2008 03:12 AM

Nevermind..I see that it goes right where the servo normally mounts. I'm in the process of building my revo and I want it to be just like yours!

DickyT 02.24.2008 11:14 AM

have fun with the build! I am loving mine, I can not wait to have it under full power.

thetick 02.24.2008 07:36 PM

I'm waiting for the MMM to be released. Hopefully it won't be too long.

DickyT 02.25.2008 11:52 AM

well, my esc was not salvageable. The fets smoking melted the pcb. Time to find some patience and wait.

thetick 02.26.2008 02:33 AM

It looks like my roller came with the Tekno reciever box. At least it looks just like yours in the pics. It only seems to fit on the right side of the car. Did you just modify it to fit on the left side?

DickyT 02.26.2008 11:32 AM

I just mounted it on the left. maybe it was supposed to go on the right, but I already has my servo mounted and adjusted.

standard_63 02.26.2008 03:20 PM

How's the balance on your truck with receiver box on the left?

Does it seem to make much difference? I think I'm going to do mine the same since my servo is already set up on the right.

thetick 02.26.2008 03:34 PM

I like it on the left better. It looks like it makes for a cleaner setup with the wiring and stuff. I'm assuming you'll want as much weight as possible on the right since you have the batteries on the left.

DickyT 02.26.2008 05:07 PM

i like it on the left. I put it there for wiring purposes and to balance it out. my 5s 8000 mah lipo is 2 lbs on the right side.

oops...I meant you want to put more weight on the left since the batteries are on the right.

thetick 02.28.2008 01:51 AM

Where are you going to mount the controller? I noticed that tekno makes a mount but I don't know where it goes.

CharLemagne 02.28.2008 03:43 PM

tekno's esc mount goes on top of the transmission.
