I'm pretty sure you will void the warranty; after all the 1515, 1518, 1520 and 1717 are all stated by CC to have a max input of 25.2V.

And for the most part I've seen that the sweet spot with these motors are about 30-40k.

Yes, but a Lipo cell is about 4.2 volts at full charge, so we have to expect 4.2 * 8 = 33.6 volts from 8s and this leads to 33.6 * 1.800 = 60.480 rpm, just above the motor limit

Bye.

Somewhere here in the forum I read one of Patricks posts that the 1717 is OK on 8s provideing the RPMs are in check, I would inmagine the 1518,1520 would be the same or better since their max RPM is 20K higher.

Just remember two things about that; 1) the voltage will dip under load and 2) that 4.2v value drops pretty fast in less than a minute. Either way, you won't see those rpms for very long, if at all, unless you're running flat out right off the bat.

DrKnow65 12.03.2010 03:51 PM

Brian, I said buggy :-)
Thzero, the motors from the moving sale have no warantee :-)
Bondonutz, yes for the purpose of best efficiency the 1717 is perfect on 8s. The 1520 at 1600kv would be better than the 1518 on 8s. So I should buy 1 of each before the sale is over :-)

And BrianG if you'd have disagreed I would have changed my position, because you are wise :-)

What a bummer! Just called castle to get my tracking info since the email still hadn't come in.... Turns out even tho the computer sayed shipped turns out it didn't ship and the 1518 is no longer in stock.... Looks like I'm screwed!! Monday I'll find out what we can work out!!! Bummer!!

It's right on the page the sale items are on ???

UPDATED WITH NEW ITEMS ON NOVEMBER 24, 2010

We have a few hundred odds and ends that we rediscovered when we moved our entire operations at the end of July.

These motors are all made to Castle specs in the same factory that makes our best selling car and truck motors. The motors are great, the projects just didn't happen due to any number of reasons.

The motors are sold as is. That means no warranty. Not because we don't trust them, but because they came from limited runs and we simply don't have replacements here to offer for returned products.

What was said.

That is what was told to all of us right off the bat. THis is why it pays to read an entire thread when you find something that appeals to you. This is also why some of us bought not just one, or two motors. I have three 1717 motors so I have back ups for when issues start popping up. I hope everyone took advantage of these black Friday sale items. It was well owrth it in my opioion. Three 1717 Neu motrs on sale ($56 each) for the regular price of one 1521. Pretty good deal from the view of my wallot.

RCShocker 12.03.2010 10:34 PM

Thanks Bondo, thats good to know. I wasnt really questioning it so much as wanting more info.

But yeah, at $65 compared to Towers $170 it is worth it for me.

coolhandcountry 12.06.2010 08:03 PM

Well I tried to get another motor.
I put an order in for a 1717 motor.
I hope it is not to small for my project.
I figure this motor should run okay on 4s but better on 6s.
Not going for no high speed demon yet.

What ya puttin it into? The 1717 motor is a real powerhouse from all the hype. I mean the motor is almost as big as a Coke can, and has some pretty impressive specs. Unless you are planning to push around a 1:1 car with it I am sure it will live up to whatever R/C you place it in 1/10th, 1/8th, or even 1/5th scale as long as you mate it with a good ESC and batteries.

thzero 12.07.2010 02:25 PM

I bought a 1520 from the sell, and it is labeled on the can as a 1520/1Y 1500kv. Is this right or it is it a 1600kv?

V0RT3X 12.07.2010 02:29 PM

There've been some with wrong engravings. It's 1600kV.

thzero 12.07.2010 02:33 PM

Ah, thats what I was thinking.
