Yeah, the bearings are a weak point in any BL motor. it needs some care, i never read anything on this board though about someone who needed to replace his bearings due to wear.

The quality of the bearings can't be the best of the world, that's for sure..

Gustav 09.11.2005 03:38 PM

Serum, what effect would the segmented magnets have with the 20XL.

Do you know if the quoted kv value on the BK website for the 22series and 20xl series are measured under load.If they're not
what is a likely kv drop under load?

I'm trying to decide between 2240/12 or a 20xl/? on 24 gp2200s or 8s skyvolt packs.I could wait for the segmented magnets,i have a 7xl on 16 cells to play with in the meantime.

Serum 09.11.2005 03:47 PM

The segmented magnets are better under partitial load, (get less hot, due to lower Eddy current) (dafni and i where curious about this issue, so we discussed one and another about this)

the 2240 will have got more torque. it is one of the fastest BL motors available.

If money wasn't an issue, the 2240 got my vote. On the other hand, and those high voltages, the efficiency is very high with both motors. The cheap wanderer does the tr(u)(i)ck too

I am going to test a wanderer XL on 20 cells soon, in a rather light centerdiff savage.

is the 7xl comparable to the lehner xl3100 on 12 cells? also, mike, can you get the 7xl in blue with the better bearings like the other feigaos? and how much?

coolhandcountry 09.11.2005 07:58 PM

Get mike to get you the bk wander version. The 7xl will out do it. More power. YOu have to gear it up some but will run same speed on 12cells but plenty of power. I don't think you will be disappointed there squee.

Gustav 09.11.2005 08:17 PM

Squee,Mike got one for me,it was $100 i think.

squeeforever 09.11.2005 09:03 PM

in blue correct? how did you like it, gustav? @coolhand- i plan on getting the strobe slipper with it so what gearing would i need if i was to run on 12 cells for now?

Gustav 09.11.2005 09:15 PM

Yes it's a wanderer blue canned 20xl/7.I haven't had chance to run it yet.(still building the truck),Dafni and Serum swear by then though so it comes highly recommended.

I'm going to start with 15/51 on 16 cells with 3.3:1 diffs if that's any help.

coolhandcountry 09.11.2005 09:22 PM

I still run the 32 pitch. What ever comes up to match 18 66. 15 51 seems to be good from figuring a little bit. That is if you run the stock diffs squee. Test it out gustav. I think you will like it to. The 7xl taught me to be easy on trigger. Got tired of turning truck back over. I ran mine with 18cells. It was fast and strong. Let me know gustav how much you like it.

Gustav 09.11.2005 09:28 PM

coolhand,do you know what kind of speeds you were getting on 18 cells?and what gearing?

coolhandcountry 09.11.2005 09:36 PM

I had 18 cells with a 7xl schulze 18.97. I had it geared a little high. :) I was running a 22 pinion and 66 spur. I could drive with traffic by my house. It is a 55 mph highway. I had to be close to 55-60. I wish I had video of that. I was racing traffic. I am now running a 9xl because of high speed crash. It was ugly.

Gustav 09.11.2005 09:47 PM

I bet it was ugly at those speeds.I might give it a try on 18 cells as well then.Did the schulze survive,i have a 18.97,everyone says i should sell it but i'm going to put it my XXXT MF2 with a basic 4200 on 8 gp2200s.i think maybe the problem with the schulze is more that it can't handle the 4-pole BigMaxx and the poor customer support rather than it being a bad controller.I actually like the easy programming and that you can adjust frequency and timing.i have a 9920 for the 7xl.

Not that i would buy one now,the BKs and MGMs are much better value,i bought it before i found RC Monster, but since i have it i may aswell use it.

squeeforever 09.11.2005 09:54 PM

so when they recommend the 7xl are they talking about the wanderer or the feigao?

Gustav 09.11.2005 10:05 PM

Either really,i think the wanderer is worth the extra $10 though for the better bearings.I think that's the only difference at the moment although the quoted kv values are slightly different.
2383 for the Feigao and 2145 for the wanderer.(maybe just a difference in the way they're measured, maybe the Feigaos aren't measured under load and the Lehners and wanderers are)

It may be worth asking Mike if he knows anything about when the wanderers might get the segmented magnets.if it was me i would just order a wanderer 7xl now if you want one now.(i did).

squeeforever 09.11.2005 10:13 PM

well the thing is i would prefer a little higher kv rating cause the motor i had before was 3100 rpms per volt so its quite a drop. not to mention my maxx number of cells is 16.
