I've been running pretty light on this setup here:
MM/ Fan /RX pack Feigao 8XL Zippy-H 5000mah 4S lipo Here are the temps after about 8 minutes of running pretty lightly: MM/Fan/RX pack= 155F 8XL=165-170F Lipo=115F Once the lipos get to 115 degrees I generally just shut everything down since I don't want to ruin the packs... I'm running pretty lightly and the temps manage to get this hot...everything is hot... I'm geared 13/46(whatever stock spur is) which is pretty low, I don't understand why i'm seeing these temps. Thats when I made the guess that these temps may be directed from the Feigao motor? Do you think that is possible? I want a setup that will run real cool and efficiently under race conditions, this is TOTALLY far from it. If the temps are like this after running how I have theres something wrong here.. Anybody got any motor suggestions that will be easy on the packs/all electronics, but still give me nitro like capabilities? It seems like all other people running their lipos barely get over 100 degrees...I don't understand... Need help on this! Thanks boys steve |
* Running with body off BTW!!

I'm not familiar with that pack. If the pack isn't up to the task, it won't matter what motor you use. My Enerland packs stay cool and my MaxAmps packs run warm. Cell quality.
|
These are pretty nice packs, I mean they were cheap but many people have said they work great. I bought these from jhautz and he said he could barely get them to 100 degrees, Not sure about his amp draw setup tho.

did you try to put the 8xl shaft in the 9xl i sent you?
also what settings are you running? the lower kv of the 9xl will help some, but only give you like 30 mph |
No I didn't try that actually.
I'll do that tomorrow and try again. I tried that 9XL you sent and the esc was at like 190 lol. It has some serious torque though. With that new rotor I bet it will run fantastic... I'm thinking about getting this one guys 8XL Hacker he's selling here. If I got the hacker i'd be running that on the MM and also when I can get a MMM. Just still concerned about temps and efficiency. |
yeah i had the same problum with it, i think when i reglued the mag. i did it 180* off from where it should have been , so it makes the esc. run hot
try the lowest timing and start power settings as well, and punch control at like 60% |
Alright will do.

:gasp:Don't be putting those nice lipos in that battery box with the screws poking up into the bottom of them. Denting your lipo is the worst thing you can do to it. It creates a weak spot in the cell that will heat up more quickly under load and cause the battery to fail more quickly. Your next purchase should be a proper battery box for those lipos. Do it before you ruin the packs. Those cells are wider than the flightpower/enerland packs so you will need to get a wider than normal battery box. I just had Mike make one for me that will fit those things like a glove. Order one from Mike and tell him you want his new one piece battery box with the same internal dimensions as the one he just made for me. It will fit those packs perfectly.
I am running the 5s versions of those exact packs in my buggy and truggy and they have been performing very well for the money. No they are not flighpowers, but they hold votage well and have very low internal resistance. and at 2/5 the price of enerland its hard to go wrong IMO. Just make sure you take care and balance them properly when you charge them. Those 2 packs you got only had 1 or 2 cycles on them. They ran on the track in my buggy with a Lehner 1940/7 and a MMM and temped at barely over 100 degrees when I ran them. I was going to switch over to 4s in my buggy and was testing this setup using the motor from my savage, but after trying it I decided I would stick to the 5s setup I had. Everything else I own runs on 5s so why make one buggy that needs its own special packs. Those motor temps do look a bit high, but unfortunatly the Feigao is just going to run hot when compared to a Neu. Dont let it bug you, just do what you have to to keep it under 200 degrees. It is what it is and to expect temps comparable to a Neu is not realistic. Adding a fan on the motor may not be a bad idea to help you keep the motor temps down a little bit. The speedo and lipo temps dont look to bad to me. Have to checked to make sure the drivetrain is running smooth and you dont have any biding from a bad bearing or something and the there is nothing rubbing anywhere? Also, where are you running? What kind of surface? All in all it looks like you have the makings of a nice conversion there. |
I have run a Zippy R 6s 4150 pack in my Revo and it did run warmer than my FP 6s 5000 pack does I dont own a temp gun so I dont know the exact temp

I'm not using that battery box anymore, i removed two of the mud guard nuts&screws to allow me to use velcro to strap it to the chassis real nice without having those screws dig into the pack. It works real good and keeps the pack in place without scratching/denting them. http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h2...2/DSC08228.jpg http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h2...2/DSC08227.jpg I'll have to send Mike an email real quick about that battery box because I just ordered one last fri. along with some other things. I was just running in the street, went into the grass a little, but I was really just testing it out. |
Got the new RCM battery tray from mike. This thing is PERFECT size for my batts...they fit real snug but not too tight..
I tried the 9XL with a rotor from an 8XL, and the temps were still very high on the ESC (165F with fan) I changed back to the 8XL and here were the temps after 1 pack of running MM: 145F 8XL: 168F 4S ZippyH Lipo: 115F I still want to try and keep the lipo under 100 degrees, but I can't find a way to make it happen. I programmed my MM for 100% punch control and timing as low as it can go. Running a receiver pack also. You guys know how to keep the lipo temps down? And I am really considering buying a Neu 1515 1Y-If i can find one that is in my price range. I'm also beginning to realize that 4S may not be a very good setup for a truggy, but I don't want to go up to 5S because then it just gets way to expensive and out of my budget. I don't think I can race with 4S either because the temps of these packs under race conditions will just skyrocket, and I do not need to ruin my pair of lipos. Also, braking, and cogging is still a big issue...I have no clue why I tried to narrow everything down as much as possible. You guys have any insight? |
Been having some real inconsistancies with temperatures between runs.
Heres after 10 minutes of running MM: 170F 8XL:200F 4S Lipo: 98F Does this mean i'm undergeared? I'm geared 13/46 right now. |
well the 8xl will always run hot but i think gearing is good try 14/46 though. I run that in a hyper 7 and all is well. Might just be the motor itself, also didnt read through the whole thread but do you have a cap on the mm? Might be a good idea to add one if you dont.
|
No i do not have a cap on the MM.
I actually do have a 14T RCM pinion, i'll install that and see what happens. |
