Well, its more to do with the motor being more efficient at lower temps- it is still generating that heat, but the fan is dispersing it quicker than would occur naturally, thus keeping the motor cooler.

And make sure the temps you are reading are actually motor temps and not the cooler part of the heatsink with the fan. It takes some time for the heat to make its way through the can and into the heatsink. The surface of the HS can be quite a bit cooler than the coils...

This thread is making me feel all warm and fuzzy. I am using a 10L (with a moddified magnet froma 7xl in it b/c I killed the stock one) and I hit about 200 in 3 mins. I just bought a 60mm fan to keep it cool until my caslte combo comes in. Also I am going to order a bidproducts motor to replace this one so my brotherinlaw doesnt get pissed I killed his motor and he willl need a fan to help out his temps.

I can tell you this a 10L is to small for the e-revo. It does alright in the e-savage but I still think a fan is needed

I am just glad to hear that a fan helps alot(b/c the feigaos need all the help they can get)

It's kinda funny when you think about it: People tend to get an inexpensive motor to save a few bucks, but then get a heatsink/clamp, and then add fans. By the time they get something that runs even close to cool, they could have bought a MedUsa, or a pretty good down payment on a Neu.

I agree with you brian. I am just looking for a replacment for my brotherinlaw and somthing to keep it cool until my castle systen come in. I would suggest getting a better motor for his e-savage but it will only take a 60mm motor and his esc is a mgm 80amp so I am limited to what motor I can run in it. The 10L even in my erevo only gets the esc to 120* but I tried to run the 7xl. It pushed the esc temps to 165 in about 6 to 7 mins and the motor to 190 geared 20/86. So a small low amp draw motor is all I can use.

Does medusa make a 36x60mm motor that I can run in the esavage on 4s lipo useing the 80amp mgm esc? That way I can scrap the fan idea

4s with an 80 amp max is a little over 1000 watts continuous. I believe Medusas are around that....

With the 2000 KV 60mm Medusa and geared properly I can't imagine you'd have much of a problem, but I could be mistaken.

no, im certain that im reading temps at the right place. in fact, im reading the highest temps on the motor. places near the fan or on the heatsink is just about 115 degrees.

when i got the 7xl, my intentions were to use that motor for the meantime untill the castle neus came out. the medusa's were not even heard of or at least i didnt hear of them at the moment. or i would have gotten that, because the 7xl with the heatsink and fan would have costed the same amount as the medusa. oh well, i think with my current results, i maybe keeping this fan untill it dies. im loving the cool temps, and no breaks with a cheapo motor thats giving me 44 mph.

If thats the case I will look into the medusa motor as it would easly push around a 9 1/2 pound e-savage. If I have to get a small mgm fan that they make for there esc it wouldnt be the end of the world. It would still look better than than a huge 60mm fan hanging over the motor.

Well until my castle combo comes inand my brotherinlaw is ready to finish his esavage, I got my 60x60x25mm 24cfm 12volt fan in today. Without the fan the 10L motor in 3 mins would get to 227*F. Since the fan install I got to run 15mins of full on power and the motor was 185*. I am happy!!!. The fan is to big though and I cant put the body. There is always a down side. I am makeing a new fan mount for the esavage so we can use it until he gets enough money to pay for the other 1/2 of the medusa motor.

I did get an email back from medusa about using the 36x60 2000kv with the 80esc and they said no problem it will work fine. Hopefully before christmass we can get the meduas motor!!!!!!!!!
