Don't think that's the case -- we use a silicone based dipped circuit protection (called "conformal coat") doesn't turn back liquid until 600 degrees --

Looks like something (oil, water) got in the case -- sucked in by the fan.

Ya, I've been using conformal coating for years & the only time I've seen it look like that was after the product had been dropped into dirty sea water.

brian its not water...its oil or grease......I was running on pavement with phaltlines and it was only for about 10 or 15min

after the run when I first pulled the esc out of the truck ....when i was handling the esc I could feel this oily residue on the outside of the case

that was the feeing i had when looking at it .....and when i peeled off the sticker to get to the bottom of the case....the under white side of the sticker has what looks like tan (rust color) oil stains...and it even smells a little like oil

kostaktinos_mt 10.30.2008 07:59 PM

I work at Moffett Field in CA. I have runway's for C5's JUST down the street. I keep trying to figure out who I talk to about making speed runs, or if I should just make one or two without permission, on a Naval Air Base. I've always wanted to visit Leavenworth this time of year.

I have had to replace the front end on our RC8 conversion 3 times in the last couple of weeks.

mxracer 10.31.2008 06:51 AM

looks like a nitro car still ,, oil / crude everywhere ..

cheesecake 10.31.2008 03:28 PM

im going to rip my v3 apart i remember feeling something oily on the case when it arrived and i bet by now it has settled.

I wouldn't gear a 1.5d over 22/58 for regular use.. maybe a bit more for speed runs and such but if you are doing some serious bashing or racing that is the MAX. Racing is best around 16-19t/58 depending on your track size/layout. Typically being geared right on or just under 40 will result in the best lap times. I'll agree those packs coulnd't handle the amps you were pulling, and it resulted in the failure. Gear that thing lower.. specially considering the packs you are running.

stum...do you run a new e-revo?????because i run a 1.5d(1515)on 6 cell in a new e-revo and im geared 14/68.....its really fast....(i guest).

Yes I have the e-revo

You are at about 45mph with that gearing on 6s, but your RPM's are at the max 60k line..

22/58 on a 4s setup in the erevo is about 54mph on the top end.. considering the 4s 8000mah is the longest running config of any (no matter the voltage) due to the battery tray limitations I always stuck w/ 4s in it. (though a 5k 6s (2x3s) setup is pretty close, just more $$'s)

16/58 is nice for racing ~40mph on 4s (rpms at about 40k)
