Doing ok Geroge, and Seoul is pretty cool for the most part. Thanks for asking. Of course you may have read that my wife is dealing with breast cancer right now. No worries as she is fine. Luckily we caught it early, and surgery went great. She is stateside right now awaiting radiation treatments, and we hope to have her back here at home by late Jan/09. With just getting custody of my three youngest(after 7 years) after losing their mother to cancer at 35 this past Feb, Xmas is kind of tough this year. Even in the midst of dealing with her issues, we just received three huge boxes from her full of Xmas gifts. This is the third union for both of us, and we love spoiling each other after being treated like crap by teh EX's. Life goes on and we will overcome.

Glad to hear that you are retiring soon. We discussed retiring overseas, but we love the states too darned much and want to be close to the kids and all of our family when that time comes. I have not had as much time with the R/C stuff as I would like with everything that we have going on, but I still have a lot of stuff arriving in the mail for when I do have the time. Plus I have my heart set on one of Mikes Slipperentials, and the new Maxx center diff kit hopefully sometime in Jan/09. Plus Plettenbergs new chassis setup. So 2009 is shaping up to be quite a year for us. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year guys.

Yea we have mentioned this before, and it would be very cool if that could be arranged, but getting everyone together considering some of the places that we are writing from would be very difficult in deed. If you have been around here long enough you know that we probably have at least 20 countries represented here on RCM. Funny to mention that though. I jsut had a call last night from a friend about getting together again for the NASCAR race week in NC next October and I plan on doing some R/C racing while there. These are guys who I served with in the Navy in Holy Loch Scotland from 1977 to 1990, and one of them has a 45' custom motor coach. This will be our second gathering, but more guys have found out about it and want to join in on the fun. Having something like this with the RCM gang would be a blast.

Hehe, I have one vice, and that is trying to push my luck as far as I can... I am pretty good at it, but I tend to get carried away sometimes, that is when the fun (problems) start. I am a decent wordsmith and make my living talking myself up and making people like/trust me. Not really sure if i am a decent guy, or just full of shit (honestly, I have thought about it). I just feel like a complex contadiction, I like people, yet love to be by myself while working. I listen to loud music, but like dead silence when I work. I can focus for hours, yet most conversation bores me in seconds. I guess I am selfish, shallow, and an elitist... But at least I have decent manners (thanks mom and dad) and try to make people laugh, even at my own expense (self-depreciating humor is easy). I do tend to over think things though...

Anyway, we have a great group here and we all enjoy spending money and building stuff! Can't go wrong with that!

:rofl::lol::rofl: yea linc admitting that you have a problem is the first step to recovery. Of course you have to want to recover.:rofl::na: We all have our issues to deal with for sure linc, and none of us is perfect. I think alot of us in here have our own social issues, because we are somewhat anti-social in some way hiding from the rest of the world in our R/C shops, or we would not be into R/C and talking with people through a forum. Don't you think?? Just from some of the conversations that we have in this place lends me to believe that there are some pretty cool souls in here. All in all I think that the RCM gang is a pretty nice bunch of guys, and MIKE is the somewhat GOD of our communications.:lol:

Hey all, I am new here and am quite certain I have a problem. Over the past 5 years RC has immersed itself into my life to an extent which I couldn't have foreseen. It enabled me to get a job doing things not too different from what I had already been doing at home, and as a result, gave me more money to spend. Unfortunately, though, RC has taken back a good portion of my earnings due to having no expenses to account for.

In the past my spending went too far, to the point where I had no money to cover a small $500 accident without dipping into my [meager] savings. And there I went, for the longest time without savings. That is, until the summer rolled around and I could work more hours. I built my savings up, and then disaster struck: the rear derailleur on my mountain bike broke, bending the frame at that point. Thus I knew I needed a new bike and wanted to fork over a decent amount of cash. $800 later, I had blown about half my savings (keep in mind I was working part-time minimum wage, and had summer school)

Yet again it went downhill from there. I felt compelled to maintain my brushless/Lipo superiority at the LHS I work at and splurged on items like 5s Lipos and MMM ESCs. And that is not to mention the oh-so-custom projects I had going on! Let me tell you, custom builds aren't as cheap as they can seem! A few hundred screws here, another few hundred screws there, some bearings all around, more materials, and of course tools all add up!

I'm not much of the type to seek external help, so over the last couple months I have managed to reason with myself - and as a result my hobby spending has dropped drastically, my savings account has been skyrocketing (relative to my income), and I've been talking and going out with a girl I am interested in. This is not to mention that Josh (jnev) has resparked my interest in mountain biking (remember the bike I purchased?), so I must say, things have been turning around.

If you would like you can call this a success story for the self-help treatment. Now please, take this with a grain of salt. Oh and Neil, if you read this, there is hope :angel:.

DOn't get too happy patting yourself on the back MetalMan. You must know by now that just when everything seems to be going your way that the inevitable catastrophy will strike. Enjoy your well deserved repreave while it lasts, because you will be back on her sharing bad news down the road. Be careful with your motorbike hobby, because it can hurt you much quicker than R/C can. We enjoy your support in here and love hearing good news when it comes our way. Stay safe and have fun(within reason of course). :lol:

You're right Jerry, I must work hard to maintain my current position in life so it doesn't go to waste. For some this would mean backing out of RC, but I just can't let that happen :whistle:. Instead I must cut back on my technical side, and let my emotional side out to see the light. It is in my nature to be stoic when it comes to my emotions, but we shall see where that ends up!

Now if you think I need to be safe, then take a look at Josh (jnev). Recently he posted up some pictures of some extremely intense mountain biking, the sort I can only imagine in my dreams! Thanks for the kind words!

where are the pics of Jnev on his bike? would like to see those. i used to do extreme mtn biking before getting married and adding 30 pounds to my body. now i must live vicariously through people like Jnev who've still got it. post a link to the pics if you can.

Yeah, I did that for about 3 months when I was in my 20's. Bought a 1200 bike to keep up with my buds, then I figured out real fast that I preferred something with more power than I had in my body. Sold it for 400. Kind of the same R.O.I. as RC's

sounds kinda like me. I had to take a psychiatric evaluation and they found I had traits of an anti-social personality disorder, and that my relationships were superficial. But I'll go with elitist:intello:

And this is what we call a wheelie bin. These are the bins we stick out on the side of the road and I'm sure yours are probably the same. They aren't actually that strong though and I think wheelie bin vs the 6kg savage the savage would have come out a lot better then the bin.

There are some great stories in here. I think the day I buy a house will probably be the day when I have say enough is enough on this hobby at least for a few years. I'll just spend more time mountain biking.

NOt to sound corny but rc actually did bring my drinking down. I wont lie, i was a straight drunk in high school. Drank atleast twice a week and when i partied...i partied hard. After RC...i dont go to parties cuz im "too busy" or have "too many projects open."
now In college, i drink maybe once every month. Now i just get yelled at by my girl of 6 years (been dating since 9th grade)

i just may get her that ring...or buy a 1/5 scale buggy and do a 12s BL conversion....:lol::lol:

Trust me dude if she is already yelling at you, then once you put that ring on her finger it is only going to get worse. Don't be one of those guys who thinks that getting married will change everything for the better. IT WON'T. Once you get married then come the ultimatems, and threats that if you don't do things her way you will be on your own, with HALF of your stuff and HALF of your money gone. Life is too short to put up with the ridicule and torture if your relationship is already heading in that direction.

I have been married twice before and I kept on trying thinking that things would get better, and believe me it never does:diablo:. If you are not compatible then you are not compatible:eyes:. Twice burned, but this time I found someone who truly cares about my feelings and what I want out of life:angel:, and she had to put up with the same kind of crap before from her EX's, and loves knowing that things really can be as good as our dreams tell us:party:. We spoil one another all the time now:yes:. It is nice to give and know that it comes back to you one way or another, and without any expectations when two people can recipricate:yipi:.
