If I could afford lipos I'd turn my Revo into electric. I love this thing!

Dafni 06.10.2005 05:39 AM

My Revoxx is doing great! It is currently being dressed up for a trip to Sweden, where I hope to get a chance to race some nitros. So at the moment I'm trying out different suspension set-ups.

I'm also looking forward to try a Lehner, and hope to get some safer temps and better runtime.

Compliantguy 06.13.2005 11:05 PM

Dafni,

First, I must say that your Revo looks awesome! Very nice work!

I just got my Revo today, and have already removed all of the components that I won't need, to convert it to Brushless.:D I will be using my Plett MAXXimum and Schulze 18.97, from my E-Maxx, to power this new beast! I would like to know if you had to replace the short front center driveshaft with another long rear center driveshaft to fit the E-Maxx tranny? When I test fit my single speed E-Maxx tranny, it appeared that I would need another long center driveshaft to make it work. Also, I noticed that the output shaft, from the tranny, doesn't fit all of the way into the Revo driveshaft yoke. Did you file the end of the output shaft to fit, or did you open up the inside of the yoke?

Thanks.

Glad you like it. I'm rather fond of it myself. I think a picture update would be in order, this truck gets better every week!
Now it has a black RCM heatsink, btw.

Yeah, the driveshafts, I started with Maxx shafts. I just cut some front/rear Maxx shafts to the right lenght and bought some Maxx yokes. Held up fine, no problems at all.
Then I modified the front shaft with a one-way bearing, still Maxx stuff. No problems either.
At the moment I run custom made Titanium Dogbones in MIP cups, looks absolutely bulletproof, and stylish too. Ask Mike about them.

Like I said, I should get some new pics. Compliantguy, have you seen the pics on page 2?
Hey, a Plett Maxximum is what I always dreamed of, but I've never been a friend of Schultze. I always thought I'll wait for another controller before I buy the Plett.
Now I changed my dreams, and one day I would like tu run a Lehner 1940-7 on a 120 amp warrior. But in the meantime I'll get a Lehner Basic XL.

What battery configuration do you plan to use? My setup proved good, so far. I can run it on asphalt (on RoadRages) and never had one single traction roll!! It's MUCH more stable than my stock Maxx. I love its driving characteristics.
Up until now I had a bit of a trouble finding the right gearing for my Feigao, but other than that, the design works great. I also like the absence of the chunky plastic boxes, they just spoil the sleek look, IMHO.

Have fun with your project, and keep us updated.
I am tinkering with the V2.0 of the Revoxx, and originally I wanted to sell V1.0 to get another BL. But at the moment I think I will keep both and turn the first one into a low-geared, twin brushy Crawler type-of-thingy to play around in my backyard.

Feel free to ask whatever you like, glad if I can be of some help.

Hi dafni, very nice bl revo!
I'm very interested how u did that and what costs u had on this project.
A friend of mine has buyed hisself a Revo (Nitro) and i m totally impressed of his driving qualities. But i dont want to drive a nitro, because here in Germany u are not allowed to drive them outside an official racing terrain...

So it would be great if u can tell me something about how u build ur bl revo, what parts u've used and how much it costs.

Dafni 06.14.2005 05:16 AM

Hi Rannick, welcome to the forums! You got a PM!

You can see lots of pics on page 2 here!! YOu can get most info out of my thread here.

Check www.LSARC.com too. (I got a "sticky" in Members Projects)

Costs?? Shhhh....We don't talk about that;) Never ever add it all together :p

:L: seriously:

Roller: $220
Tranny: $50
BL combo: $280
Wheels and body: $100
Plus a small fortune in shipping and customs and misc. stuff.

Compliantguy 06.14.2005 09:23 AM

Dafni,

Thanks for the information. A picture update would be great! Yes, I did see the pictures on page 2, which help a lot. Do you have a dimensional drawing, that you could e-mail me, for the battery trays that you made?
I orginally was going to use my single speed E-Maxx tranny, but I'm going to try the Revo 2-speed tranny first. The spur gear on the Revo has a "M1" stamped on it. Does that mean it is a "MOD 1" spur gear?

Of course, I'll have to create a custom motor mount and a mounting shelf for the speed control, but I love a challenge.:) I love my Plett and I did pony up for the 18.97, but I sure wish that somebody would make a less expensive controller that was mounted in a plastic case AND included a fan for the heatsink. I've got some ideas of what the perfect speed control would look like, but I doubt that anyone will build one. Most of the manufacturer's like to use the heatshrink instead of an actual case like the Novak EVX.

Rannick 06.14.2005 09:30 AM

Thx that u welcome me in this forum and for the fast reply!

Shhh... Sry that i asked after the money :o :L: but i needed to know my budget is limited but i want to build one on my own :) and ur Revoxx is just great
I think i try to build it after ur very great example.

Serum 06.14.2005 09:33 AM

Good thing is you can start with it easy, invest some money now and then. You could also use the titans with the maxx controller. Or make your own motorplate and use the stock transmission of the revo, with the mechanical brake.

Dafni 06.14.2005 09:37 AM

Rannik: Good to hear you like it that much.

Compliantguy: Sorry, but I have no drawings whatsoever. Made all the stuff on a vise out of alu-sheets. It's straight-forward, though. Just measure your batts and use your imagination.
Can't help you with the Revo spur, either. In fact, I have never ever seen a stock Revo in real life.
I don't know if you'll be able to mount the batts "Daf-style" if you use the stock tranny. Check Starscreams BL Revo, he uses the Revo tranny with modified spur.
Ja, I also love a challenge.:) That's why I choose a Revo over an 1/8 buggy, and I already work on the second Revo conversion.

I would be interested what runtimes u have with youre Bl Revo :)
Runtime is a Topic that interests me a lot as you know :p

Dafni 06.15.2005 04:38 AM

Hmm, me too:D
Unfortunately I have no representative numbers at hand. Had a hard time finding the right gearing, and had some bad luck with motors. I hope my new Lehner will get some more sensible numbers.

But I can say that much:

On the brushed setup (Titans/EVX) you get good 15 minutes if you bash around in both gears. Even more if you stay in first a lot, less if you keep it in second gear. If you have full race conditions, you will hardli get 9 minutes.

On the 9L I got barely 10 minutes under full race conditions. But this is not reasonable, because I never managed to keep the motor in a save temp range.

(all on 14 cell GP3300mAh)

I agree with Serum, you can always start low, and buy better stuff later on. Basically the more efficient systems are also the more expensive ones.
I myself had a good time on the brushy setup, and at the moment I am thinking of making the V1.0 brushed again, when v2.0 is finished. Then I'll have a race ready truck, as well as a Backyard Basher;)

Rannick 06.15.2005 04:51 AM

Ah u make a new Bl Revo. What will u change in this version :) very exciting :p

Dafni 06.15.2005 05:14 AM

Ooh, this is still under cover, some serious top secret stuff here ;)

Heheh:p Just kidding.

Nothing too exciting, really. The design will remain the same, more or less. Altough the pics you have seen are not really up to date. (have no digi-cam myself:o )

The Race truck will get all the aftermarket goodies, and the Basher will get the left-overs. Also, the Racer will get a single speed conversion (originally wanted a center diff).

Actually I wanted to build a new one, just because I liked this work so much, and sell V1.0. But now I changed my mind and I will keep both, and turn the old one into basher.

R00ST 06.15.2005 07:57 PM

I just found this forum (great forum!)

Dafni I sent you a PM about your revoxx! I currently have a BL emaxx in progress, but the cost is getting to be insane. Everything I have is still new, so i might just resell it and put it toward a revo roller.
