another big mistake i had was when I just got my brand new RC-Monster 2s2p 5200mah 28c lipos. these were amazing! and $100 a piece. I wanted to run my hyper 7 with them so badly(this was an upgrade from a protek 4s,4000mah 20c) even though I didnt have a battery tray yet.(I'd velcro my lipo on.) so I taped the batteries together, velcroed it down, and started bashing in my school's parking lot. it was 15 degrees out, so I dont know what caused me to check for temperatures, but i did. sure enough, my lipos moved, and the spur started eating at them. It didnt eat through the case, but if it had moved just another mm closer it would have.
Many months later, my MMM detonated, taking out those $200 in batteries too. Now I won't buy anything but cheap lipos. I got a pair of 2s 28c 5000mAh neuenergy lipos off of entjoles for $50, and everything else is zippy powered. |

Remember this mike... http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...E/PICT0003.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...E/PICT0002.jpg Oh the joy of running in sub freezing weather in a school parking lot before robotics... plastic doesnt like to flex at those temperatures.. |
About 3 weeks ago, my buddy is coming in for a landing with his Cub, it's dusk, so perception is getting difficult. I have a massive field behind me with just fairly thin treelines. I look away a minute and hear "AW MFer!!!" I turned around and the plane is nowhere in sight. "You DIDN'T!"
Yeah, treed it. On one of the neighbor's property. So we made our way back to the tree, good 200 yards out. We get up to the bunch of trees, and it's hard to even tell which tree the plane is in. And it's about 20 minutes until sunset. "We can't leave the lipo in the tree, there's nothing to climb.....WTF!" So the owner rolls up on his quad and scopes out the situation, was very cool about it. In fact he offered to cut the tree down! We mulled it over a minute, and all decided it was the only way. He comes back with a logger's chainsaw, I said "you sure you're alright with this?" He was, and had to cut another smaller tree down to make way for the taller one! I still wasn't convinced he was cutting the right tree and it was getting dark fast. So he made a notch cut and dropped a 60+ foot tree with a SuperCub on top like he'd done it every day of his life.. and the plane floated off where it was stuck and hit the ground totally undamaged! How do you guys like to meet your neighbors? |
WOW, Awesome happy ending and a way cool neighbor. Most neighbors suck ?

And for the best one. This was just Saturday, decided to get some lake flyover on video. My friend's using my FlyCam because his is glitching, so we go to a point down the road to launch. Nice little flight, some higher altitude, some lower and lands no problem. Got a boat and a waverunner from overhead, kinda cool. So I asked him if he was going up again, said he brought 2 packs, so yeah.
About 2 minutes into flight #2 he says "something isn't right" but didn't seem too concerned, he has a DX7 with JR digitals and a good speeder and motor.... and is a good pilot. He turns it and tries for an approach, and came up only about 50 feet short. Words for the wise, if you are going to do a water flyover with a plane not equipped with floats, make sure both of your packs are charged. And guess what the only victim was in this? My beloved FlyCam! He f*cks up, I PAY. :whip::lol: BTW, if it looks like he's pointing at the plane there, he isn't |
here is mine starts out great end sad:gasp:

my mom bought me a used H7 PBS version for my Bday 2 years ago, it was the BEST birthday present EVER... at that time...
went down to the LHS and bought everything needed to run it, fuel, plugs, igniter, tools, etc. never once did they mention anything about a failsafe:gasp: needless to say, I found an open field with power lines runing accros it, my first tank of fuel and I had a big @$$ smile on my face, then horror struck when I tryed to stop:diablo: I had my mom in tears when I came in with 2 seporate buggys:whip: the only thing I have left of the buggy is the front inner hingpin. that is my "good" luck charm its a 5mm pin http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...c/IMGP4579.jpg |
Wow, that's a big hinge pin..

Lots of good stories guys, keep em coming! Don't really have any good ones myself, but don't worry, I'll ruin something soon enough.

It's just you.
Another of mine- spending $500 on a engine, conversion, pipe, new bumpers and such for my tmaxx pro .15, without upgrading anything in the drivetrain. And the engine never started... :oh: And this was a cen .46 engine... |
I remembered a blunder from years ago. I bought the first Generation LST when they were first released. I bought a aluminum antenna mount because the antenna tube kept slipping out of the RX box. The wire coating chafed thru and grounded on the aluminum mount and had my first run away at W.O.T . The truck blasted into a dumpster at 40+MPH head on. The damage consisted of every control arm broken, front bulk grenaded, front shocks mangled, body destroyed, crushed rims and torn front tires and more. That was 5 yrs ago ? Have ben very fortunate since.
