what does it weigh ready to run?

othello 09.06.2009 05:06 PM

I browsed the manual (PDF) of the savage 5T to get an idea on how hpi mounted a 5T tire (24mm hex) on a savage axle.

The interesting part is that you can run wheels with 17mm hexes and 24mm hexes (hpi even includes 2 tire sets: 5T and Savage XL). To achieve this you have to switch between 2 different wheel axle shafts.

HPI Part Numbers (Main parts needed to mount wheels with 24mm hex):
. 38305 Wheel Axle Shaft 8x11x47mm
. 38306 Wheel Hub 24mm
. 38308 Wheel Nut M18x24mm

Some little updates:

I did made a strong center alluminum CVD, 4 steel hex adaptors and I mounted original HPI baja shocks because with new huge baja wheels the other shocks were too short and does not work good.

Now the RTR weight is 7,9 kg (with 2 x zippy 3s 5000)

Do like

FYI, I believe proline make a nice under tray to keep out dirt from the bottom of the Baja- might work on your homemade version ( I see you have some kind of mesh in place now)?

Very nice gyn!

Under 8 kg is amazing, looks very stable and easy to drive..

Great job on the centerdrives as well.

Show Rome how it's done!

I know the proline undertray, but I am not sure that i could fit it in my homemade baja.
Anyway I don't placed a mesh but two pieces of carbon as carters and the frame seems to be well protected from dirty.

Nice Project. I do it too like you and othello. Because of your thread i chose a 450g motor for future. My #2 Video shows only the first "touch" :) But a 5B is more difficult i know.

I have seen your video, it runs good already with little lehner 1920.
Is there a topic with some photos of your project?

titan 10.29.2009 12:20 PM

There is only one topic with pics in germany, and 4-5 topics with the video round over the world ^^

Should I make a topic her too or a HD pictureshow on YouTube? I do not know.

Today 23mm hex arrived. With mods the Baja 5T Wheels fit :D I love it - Sry

It's guys like you who inspire the rest of the world to do other things like this. Without people doing these things what wold our hobby be today? Plus the fact that we're GUYS who just love to tinker with stuff. So post up a thread and show some pics.
