Lipos don't catch fire unless misused extremely badly...

36 cells with a 3000watt motor is the way to go ;). Just hope that it doesn't roll or hit anything at full throttle!
The batteries are the limit, so the cheaper you go on batteries, the lower the performance. If you went with IB3800s, you could push out more power than with GP3300s.

I have a 2250 10t kv 1184. I ran it on a 26 cells. I never got it to go exactly right cause it would destroy stuff. I think the 2280 6 t or 8t would do good with enough cells.

But would it do good on a BK 36120 Brushless Car Controller? Also, why do the lehner motors have 2 different watt ratings (lehner 2280 motors are rated at 2500 and 3000 watts)?

If you got to there web site it is accually higher than that. They rate the 2280 up to 4000 watts of power. The 2250 is only up to 2800. For the 4000 watts of power you are going to need about 40 cells. A good nimh cell is good for about 100 watts of power a piece.

Could the BK 36120 brushless car controller be used with a 12s lithium setup and a 2280 motor? Has anyone of of the BK 36150 brushless car controller, and would this be a better one to get? Does it also have the 42,000 rpm limit? Where can I get on other than www.BK-electronics.com? That site is way overpriced compared to this one, but only the36120 is available here, not the 36150?

mike can get you the 36150 and it still has the 42000 rpm limit.12 cell lipo would put the controller just over its limit.

Well 12s lipo on a 2280 I really hope you have extremely strong drive train.

yeah i dont think the drivetrain could stand that much power for more than half a minute.

Could the controller take 11s lipo? Would the drivetrain be better off with a 2250? Could I use this setup on BK 36120 controller or do I need the BK 36150 controller? How much for the BK 36150 controller?

the controller can take 11s lipo and i would go with the 36150 if you are going to put that much power through it. with either motor you are going to have to have a really strong drivetrain.

Metalman is correct, some times we sell like 20 helicopters a week with lipo batteries to beginners without a problems, lipos are safe if treated correctly.

I’m going for a fast on road setup like you too:)

Btw use lipo there like nearly half the weight for around the same price!!!!
