Bad news update!
Something kindof strange happened, While just bashing the other day, nothing serious as in high jumping or full long WOT runs. The truck starts making weird noises and some smoke appears, I get closer remove the body cover and it smells like something is smoking; no smoke though. Just as i finger the throttle smoke appears from the Mamba XL2 esc, when i take my finger off the throttle it stops. Didn't have the guts to give it a WOT test. Removed the ESC and checked all the cables for any thing touching or stripped, all seems in order. Then I put in my other Mamba XL2 esc, wired it up and gave it a test, all seemed working perfectly. been Bashing it for couple days now. What could be the cause? Sure I will be sending it in to Castle for a warranty Repair, but can't seem to |
Another not so good update... or should i consider it a statement of the power we play with...
Thanks god no expensive electrics involved, went for some fun today, and managed to melt down, literary melt the Center Differential! I measured 100 deg C ! Here are some pics : ...... 100 deg C the temp was measured couple of minutes after hearing the weird noises... thought the esc or motor then realized its the CD. https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-g...394_resize.jpg the oil is every where https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-Q...396_resize.jpg https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-g...397_resize.jpg https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-V...108_resize.JPG https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-N...109_resize.JPG The diff screws were dislocated, you can see the lower one as if bent, the screw is straight, but the melted plastic .... https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-1...114_resize.JPG This is melted plastic https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-A...120_resize.JPG Had to literary break it to get the internals out, getting them soaked and cleaned for further inspection. https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-B...123_resize.JPG |
Here's a video...
After watching it again I think I'd better re check the electrics.... |
I'm guessing the diff was... diffing too much- did you have fairly thin oil in there?..
|
Had 100k in there, 60k front 30k rear. in fact had 50k before the recent diff rebuild, after that the above happened...
I am gonna order some 500k, but may mix it with some 100k (same brand) as i believe 500k is too thick, like a locked center transmssion. |
Was Bored, digging out some old files, trying Race Render, and the result ==>
The videos and eagletree elogger v4 logs I found were for my first setup of this build, before the CNC second incarnation. My HD wing cam is trashed now, planning a Gopro hero 3 soon! In the mean time hope you enjoy! |
That race render is cool. Does it come with the eagletree?
|
No its separate, but free to use for up to 3 minutes of exporting videos and the race render logo on the top; there are some other limitations in the free version. Even though not very expensive 25 bucks or so.

Even more carnage....
Gave the transmitter to my 6 year old, in a cramped space, all i Hear is a LOUD thud! and this :surprised: https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/--...WOT%252004.jpg https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-D...WOT%252005.jpg https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-H...WOT%252010.jpg Don't worry wouldn't given the TX to him unless we were alone, nobody around. How he managed that I dunno! Well back to a rebuild.... Gonna just hammer back the TVP's to near straight. Don't wanna buy new ones as i am still designing my own to mill on my CNC. its a Long shot... |

I'd start him off on something a little smaller and less powerful, like a 2wd buggy. :rules: |

My 5yr old nephew BEGS constantly because his mother brought him to the RC track when I had the big truggy out there. He saw it, and it was all Want, Want Want.... So I bought up a 1/16th eRevo brushed. He can barely drive that thing on training mode, the pistol grip transmitter is still too large for him to comfortably hold and steer with.
I would NEVER give him control of my X1 CRT truggy. Even on 3S it'll still do 37mph, and it still weighs in at 10.5lbs with twin 3S 5A packs. I wouldn't even give him control of my Hyper 10TT on 2S. He's got to graduate to driving his Revo well first. And grow up enough where he understands that ramming it into a wall at full speed isn't cool. |
Haven't updated the truck since a long time, just bashing it and it still hold up good. Only the usual maintenance and some breakage, have been running a lot through spurs and pinions though.
Anyways, got a new *Hitec HS-7954SH High-Voltage Servo, with a 10amp CC BEC to run it through its true potential on 7.4 Volts. https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-V...9+01.56.07.jpg Had to retire my old cheap HK 15298B, it just stopped working. well cheap is cheap, it did its dues for what it cost. Also wanted to get new tires, Thought of trying something new, GRP Gandini tires "Bulldogs". These are for 1:6 scale, just perfect size. https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-v...9+02.15.27.jpg https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-y...9+02.15.36.jpg https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-t...9+02.15.50.jpg |
The issue is they don't come with a standard hex, but use the 18mm square!! Well turn on the CNC and get some adapters milled *:D Some photos:
Some measurements and some stock 6061 Aluminum laying around https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-D...3+22.10.36.jpg First side done and test fitting. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-W...3+23.22.31.jpg https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-r...3+22.10.45.jpg Some custom washers to snug fit the nut: https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-T...8+02.25.05.jpg And here is the result: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-z...8+21.31.05.jpg https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-k...8+21.33.36.jpg Used the wide axles, had to drill new holes, now they can be used for these tires or the standard hexes. https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-8...8+21.34.57.jpg https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-S...8+21.36.12.jpg Some size comparisons with the Bowties I was using previously. https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-L...8+21.36.37.jpg |
Awsome craftwork! Never seen a rim with square hexes before, love the metal ring around the hex, must be unstripable. Canīt believe pro-line ditched the 23mm hexes... Only hexes that really lasts on a Big Brushless Monster.
Keep up the good work and let us know how it goes with the new tvpīs! |
